Hi everyone! How have you been?
Things have been a little hectic on my end...
We’ve welcomed a new bundle of joy into the family!
He’s just 2 weeks old as I’m filming this vlog Life has been a happy blur of cuddles, feeds, and very little sleep I usually get the baby ready for bed once I’m getting ready to sleep myself
The idea is to start creating a gentle routine… though maybe that’s just wishful thinking I wish I had known about these sock monitors with my firstborn At the time, I was always checking to see if she was breathing
But it's honestly really hard to tell with newborns since they're so tiny 🥹 The sock tracks his heart rate and oxygen levels, and an alarm goes off if either drops It's not really a necessity, but it gives me peace of mind and I recommend it to new parents!
And as a little bonus, it might help you sleep better, especially if you're an anxious mama like me 😆 He’s still so tiny that even with a nursing pillow, I still end up using my arms as extra support After a feed it's burping time
I'm exclusively breastfeeding at the moment, so I don't need to get out of bed during the night And there are also relatively less dishes to wash 😆 He’s a pretty sleepy baby, so he'd often feed a bit, doze off, and wake soon after to feed again
So I always change his diaper first, then feed, and only swaddle at the end He also has a bit of reflux, so I keep him upright for 10 minutes after each feed Hmm… was I successful in putting him down?
Not quite 🥲 he woke up again, so I repeated the whole routine Slow and steady hands....
Success!
Let's quickly go to bed too, and hopefully get a long stretch of sleep ~ That was a pretty good stretch ~ The first sleep stretch is often the longest one, so I feel pretty refreshed
I make sure to drink lots of water throughout the night I feel like this directly impacts milk supply *Trying various positions in the hopes of getting a burp 😆
I was quite surprised at first, but he's a very loud sleeper and grunts a lot 😆 The subsequent wakes get increasingly harder, and I can't wait to go back to sleep haha Overnight, I’ll change his diaper every other wake, or immediately if there’s a dirty one
I'm too lazy to get out of bed, so I try to do it as quickly as possible haha *grunt grunt grunt 🫣 Each wake takes about 30 min to feed, plus another 10-15 to get him back to sleep
I like using an app to track all the feeds and diaper changes The one that I've always used is called Huckleberry, and I just use the free version I feel like I can already see some patterns? 🧐
These will be useful when it's time to start building a routine The sun's up~ ☀️ I really miss my 5am mornings, but for now, my focus is on getting as much sleep as I can
I’m especially grateful for a longer stretch of sleep this morning Usually, Koko would be up around now too and we'd all cuddle together for a while But it looks like she’s sleeping in today ☺️
Everything feels like it’s going surprisingly smoothly today I even got some quiet time for my skincare It’s been really inconsistent lately since it depends on whether I have the time (which I usually don’t 😅)
My skin’s gotten quite dry because of it, so I’m really happy to have a little moment for myself I'm not too worried about the pregnancy weight gain since I know it'll come down naturally with time However, due to lack of exercise in the past few months, I've gained fat and lost muscle 🥲
I had planned to stay more active during this pregnancy, but I had really bad pelvic girdle pain Hopefully, I’ll be cleared to start exercising again at my 6-week postpartum check-up For breakfast today I'm going to make a baked apple pancake
If you have friends who've recently given birth, I recommend gifting them homemade food!
We've been relying a lot on takeaways, which is completely normal and okay!
But it's hard to get all the nutrients you need like that 🥲 So I've been trying to cook at least 1-2 easy meals everyday Looks like the sleepy-head woke up 🐨
She offered to help with breakfast My scale ran out of battery, so we are improvising now 😆 It turned out to be a fail... but at least Koko and I got to do a fun activity together
And as usual, she really enjoyed the process 🎶 Now that breakfast is in the making, it's finally time to get ready for the day I'm not too sure what to describe this as 😆
But if you follow the recipe in the description, you should get pretty dutch pancakes lol On the good side, it's healthy and Koko really enjoyed it 😆 The ratio between wet and dry ingredients must have been off, but it does taste ok
I like to let in natural light during the day to help him learn the difference between day and night He's so tiny, even his hiccups are cute 🥹 I asked on instagram and you guys recommended Kiwi as a nickname for the baby
I really like it, and I think it's quite suitable ☺️🥝 Let's start the day with some movement~ Bicycle legs can help with digestion and relieve trapped gas
After a diaper change, it's time for another feed I just washed the bouncer cover, so I’m putting it back on now I’ll let baby Kiwi rest here for a bit while I quickly tidy up the kitchen
The nice thing about baby number two is you really don’t need to buy much… We're just reusing everything we can haha We're just reusing everything we can haha
Turtle took Koko out to play today, so I’ve actually got a little break If Koko were home, we’d probably leave the cleanup until after dinner… maybe 😄 Spending some quiet time cleaning always helps me feel better
And a cleaner environment helps me improve my mood and lower stress Thank you baby Kiwi for being cooperative ☺️ Time to do a little tummy time ~
He's not a fan 😆 Trying to make it a bit more entertaining with flashcards Let's use the towel cheat 💪🏻
Good job 🥝 Exercise is the best for a healthy bowel after all🫣 I’m trying to follow the EASY method this time around
The idea is to feed, then play, then put him down for a nap But honestly, it hasn’t been going so smoothly… Most of the time I end up nursing him to sleep instead
If you have any tips for making this method work, please share 🥹 I took baby Kiwi to his first GP visit after his nap On the way back, I bought some sandwiches for lunch
I've had this sandwich at least 5 times now, and I really love it Since I’m breastfeeding, I feel like I'm hungry all the times 🫣 So while baby Kiwi is down for a nap, I’m grabbing a snack
Today it’s pineapple cakes and chocolate chip cookies 🫣 Since I have a bit of time, I’m going to make some healthier snacks As you've seen, my snacks haven’t been the healthiest lately 😆
When the hunger hits, I’ll eat whatever’s around So hopefully having some nutritious snacks around will make it easier for those times I'm going to make lactation cookies
They’re basically just cookies with ingredients that are supposed to help boost milk supply Oats, flaxseeds, chia seeds, brewer's yeast etc. I’m not sure if they actually work, but they taste good and feel like a healthy treat
I'm adding some black sesame seed tahini too it’s supposed to help with hair growth, which I definitely need right now 😃 After lunch, my daughter went out with her dad again
I find it quite difficult to bring a newborn out since they need to feed so often I can't wait for baby Kiwi to grow a little bigger, so that we can have some playground fun together I'm topping my cookies with oats, pumpkin seeds, and chocolate chips
Other nuts, seeds, and raisins would also make a great choice I'm scooping them out with an ice cream scoop Bake at 180C for 15 minutes
The weather is surprisingly good today ☀️ While the cookies bake, I quickly put away the laundry Newborns have a way of making you realize how precious and limited time really is
Let the cookies cool down before eating (or they might just crumble) 🥝 is waking up from his nap now For daytime nappy changes, we've set up this temporary nappy changing station
Hopefully, this way I can minimise the amount of times I need to change the bedsheets 😆 The cookies have finally cooled down, and I'm going to store them in a glass container They’re super tasty on their own, but also amazing crumbled over yogurt!
I used to dislike how repetitive the days were with a newborn It used to feel like wasted time, and I wished I could do more during the day But this time around, I'm embracing the slow and quiet rhythm of things
And I'm really trying to soak in the tiny details, Like the way their fingers curl, and the warmth of their tiny body against yours This phase, as exhausting as it can be, won’t last forever
One day, the constant holding, the way they curl into my chest, will be just a memory And so, I try to soak in and enjoy this little chapter just a bit more I'm going to make a simple one pot salmon meal for dinner today
I'm starting by preparing the vegetables I'm going to use onions, mushrooms, and carrots I like this dish since I can utilise whatever leftover vegetables I have in the fridge
For the protein, I'm going to use lightly salted salmon fillets I ran out of oil, so I'm using a block of butter Honestly, I think this made the dish even better
It came out so rich and full of flavor Once the salmon fillets are just browned on the outside, remove them from the pan Then add in the vegetables, starting with the onion and carrots
Followed by the mushrooms and rinsed rice Season with a bit of soy sauce Then add the same amount of water as rice and return the salmon fillets
Cook on low for 15 minutes, then turn off the heat and let it steam, covered, for another 5 minutes Baby K fell asleep on his own while keeping me company While the rice cooks, I quickly cleaned the kitchen
I also checked my messages and saw that Turtle and Koko are having dinner out 😅 It’s probably a good thing… otherwise I’d just be making instant noodles for myself I took off the salmon skin, flaked the fish into the rice, and that’s it, all done! ✨
It was very simple right? ☺️
Let's pick a drink for today I've been really loving this juice brand lately The rice is so flavorful, and every grain is perfectly cooked
I’m really happy with how this meal turned out Since it's winter, I bathe Baby K every other day This is how I like to set it up
I like to set the bath on the floor as it feels safer And I make sure to have a towel ready because he hates the cold (I also showered and got changed into PJs while I had the chance to 🌝)
Wrapping up the burrito quickly is key to avoid an angry baby!
Can you tell Koko and Turtle are back? 😆
After a feed, he's nice and warm, so it's the perfect time to apply some lotion Most of the time he rebels, but today it seems like he’s okay with it We put on some nice and clean PJs and we're ready for another night
Please grow up healthy and happy, my sweet little baby I hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it
