Utah Jazz. Anthony Davis leaves the game again with an injury. And we all hold our breath and wait because an injury to him could change everything.
>> This is Cooper Flag and you're listening to Locked on.
>> Dick, that's a good question. Morning.
>> All these changes, you know, I still got my dog Dwight Pal.

6:30 p.m. Eastern. Joining me as always, the postgame prodigy from the great slightly biased YouTube channel. What
did you see from the Dallas Mavericks tonight? Slightly biased.
tonight? Slightly biased.
>> Yeah. I mean, guys, it's time to lock in cuz we finished a game like this, you know, and and we I came into the to the u the studio here and Nick was like,
"Oh, man. I don't even know, man." I'm
"Oh, man. I don't even know, man." I'm
like, "Man, who cares?" Coupe had 26 10 and eight.
There are some goods and there are some bads for the Mavs. Let me let me just vamp real quick. Like we need to Mavs fans just like hanging on every game. If
Coupe has a good game, the Mavs had a good game. Like that's just the reality.
good game. Like that's just the reality.
They're 10 games under 500. Their season
is over and it is cooked. Okay, it's
been that way for a long time. Uh
they'll probably make trades in the next month. It just watch these. Enjoy the
month. It just watch these. Enjoy the
process, right? Enjoy the process with Cooper Flag. These are the fun. Kirk was
Cooper Flag. These are the fun. Kirk was
telling me this on my show today and he's so right. Like these are the fun moments where in a couple years we're going to want to win and it's going to be we'll be fr very very frustrated at
some stuff. This is the Yeah, whatever.
some stuff. This is the Yeah, whatever.
Coupe had 26 8 and 10. That was fun.
There were some fun moments and there are some not so fun moments we'll get into for sure. We'll talk about Cooper Flag. We'll talk about uh the great game
Flag. We'll talk about uh the great game from Klay Thompson as well. some some
good things from him. Max Christie, Naji Marshall, and uh but we got to start here because Anthony Davis leaves the game at the end with a hand injury. He
kind of gets caught in Larry Markin's drive. He's defending Larry Markin's
drive. He's defending Larry Markin's drive with about three minutes left in the game and then all of a sudden he just stops defending all together. Larry
Markin gets a layup. The uh you know, he ties the game. Anthony Davis still holding his hand. And then as he's walking back down the court, Jason Kid kind of walks out to him and Anthony Davis waves him off, says, "No, I'm
fine." We've seen this before. We've
fine." We've seen this before. We've
talked about the Luca boooos a lot in the past where Luca would have this injury and then he looked like he would be out for the whole year and then he would be fine and he'd come back in the game. Anthony Davis has a lot of those,
game. Anthony Davis has a lot of those, too. And so you're like, "All right,
too. And so you're like, "All right, well, let's see what happens. Maybe it
was just a jammed finger. We'll see what happens." And then he goes down to the
happens." And then he goes down to the end of the court and he's setting screens and he's just not you can just tell he's in so much pain. Walks back to the end of the the other end of the court on defense and the Mavs have to
make to to stop the game. They call
timeout. He's holding his left hand.
Mavs down by two. He sits down on the bench for a little while. Gets some get some work on it. As he's getting some work on it, PJ Washington peers over from behind the bench and PJ Washington has the most drip on I've ever seen him
from a Dallas M player, baby. Like how
what how much in diamonds do you think he was wearing behind them? Did you see him?
>> No, but I know the athlete chains are different. I know that for sure.
different. I know that for sure.
>> Different the ring. He had like a one inch by one inch ring with like diamonds all through. Anyway, PJ looking great,
all through. Anyway, PJ looking great, man. So, Anthony Davis is sitting on the
man. So, Anthony Davis is sitting on the bench. Then he goes to the locker room.
bench. Then he goes to the locker room.
He's keeled over in pain. And first of all, I just feel bad. I feel bad for the guy, man. just seeing how many times he
guy, man. just seeing how many times he goes out with injuries. To see the pain that he's gone through, the the the amount of injuries he's gone through just with the Mavericks so far. He's had
the three major injuries, the adductor injury, he had the retina injury that almost got detached. He had to have surgery for that. Then he has the calf injury, now he has this hand injury. I
mean, it's just over and over again, you know, the nicknames are flying all around. Everybody stay in the comments
around. Everybody stay in the comments again. And so now we hold our breath to
again. And so now we hold our breath to to hear what is going on with Anthony Davis because if it's something that is gonna hold him out for a month, like
just a month, four weeks, then he won't get traded because the trade deadline is legitimately a four weeks away from Thursday if you're listening to this on Thursday before if we get it out in
time. So it's four weeks from yesterday
time. So it's four weeks from yesterday if you listen on Friday. Like that that could change everything I think at least for this season and at least for this story.
>> Yeah. I mean, my hope right now is that he kind of got his finger caught in the jersey >> and we get maybe a dislocated finger or something, which guys can play through that, that's really not that big of a
problem. Uh, if it's some type of
problem. Uh, if it's some type of ligament damage to a finger, that's where surgeries happen and that's where season ending stuff happens. If
it's a hand thing, like he broke his hand or something, which I don't know, it was a weird looking thing on the replay. Like, just looks like he maybe
replay. Like, just looks like he maybe jammed it. It was weird cuz it looked
jammed it. It was weird cuz it looked like his it looked like his middle finger kind of got like it was it was bent like he was making a fist but like with just the middle finger and then it got caught that part of his hand got
caught between him and Larry Markin in so it might be like some kind of knuckle thing. I don't know where. Hold on.
thing. I don't know where. Hold on.
>> I'm not a doctor so I don't know.
>> No clue. No clue what could happen. I'm
not I'm not a big on the hand joints like figuring out what happened with that. But it looked like it didn't look
that. But it looked like it didn't look like much when I saw it. And even when they show the replay again, it didn't look like much. Jason Kid said this and Mike Curtis tweeted this out. The smart
play is to just take the foul. That's
what we should have done. He felt like he was fine. We came back down. We
didn't take a foul. Markin gets a layup.
We have to take a timeout. That's just
the play. We'll learn from it. We'll
take the foul. Side out and we can sub.
That's the play. Not That's the play.
Not do I trust my players. I trust my guys as a coach. They said he was fine.
I thought he was fine. So, they thought he was fine. In the moment, I don't think Jason Kid's going to have an update because uh >> I'm not a doctor. So,
>> well, he said he heard his left hand.
That's all we have.
>> That's what Jason Kid said.
>> Yes.
>> So, we'll see.
>> You know what? When you when you hurt your left hand, you know what you have to do to it to make it feel better?
>> What?
>> He's got to touch it. He's got to rub it and hold it.
>> I mean, it looked like he >> And that's four days in a row I've used that drop.
>> It's a good It's a great drop.
>> Amazing. I'm going to use it forever. It
it I mean it looked like he I mean he looked like he was in a lot of pain. I
don't know man. I'm I'm obviously we're hoping for the best.
>> Hoping for the best. But honestly, but if he is out and if it is as bad as it looks, then he won't get traded. And
then this whole thing become this whole thing we've been talking about for weeks now, the rumors that have been coming out and the news has been coming out and all that completely goes out the window because you can't trade a player that's going to be out for a month, two months,
whatever. I guess
whatever. I guess >> I guess the Mavericks traded for one and that was Anthony Davis when he was out with the doctor injury. So
>> the month could be different >> if he well if he's out a month the trade deadline is four weeks from Thursday. So
like he could be back by the trade deadline and so maybe they they can make time.
>> I just don't believe this thing where it's like AD has to play two straight games for a team to trade for. Like if a team is going to trade for him, a team would trade for him if they're like yeah he'll be he'll be back. But if he's actively hurt and he's out for two months.
>> Yeah. But if it get back for March and April, >> the two months is a little bit risky.
But if it's like, hey, >> uh, he hurt his head. Like, he'll be back around the All-Star break. Like,
we're pretty confident in that. I could
see a team something like, "All right, so it depend. It depends on how severe the injury is, right?"
>> Yeah. Yeah. A season ender is >> a season ender then then does completely completely end this and then we take it into the summer and then it becomes something completely different which is what we've been hoping to avoid with all the with all the trade talks. But
>> yeah, >> we wait to we wait to see what happens with it and wait to see the update. And
I will say one thing though, do note that if Anthony Davis is fine or if he's going to be okay or if it's a very short live like short 10 like timeline injury, we will learn about it
very quickly. I feel like the Mavericks
very quickly. I feel like the Mavericks want to put this out as soon as possible, like to to to let everybody know, to let other teams know, hey, you know, he's fine. He's fine, guys.
Everybody Everybody's fine. Keep up the negotiations. Like, we're all good here.
negotiations. Like, we're all good here.
>> Yeah, that's that's going to be an interesting one to see. They play on Saturday at home, correct?
>> Yeah. Right. They their next game Saturday at the Bulls, which is his home.
>> Oh, in Chicago. Okay.
>> Then home Monday against the Nets. And
then then Nuggets Jazz back to back Wednesday Thursday.
>> Yeah, we'll see. I mean, who knows? Hand
stuff can be weird. Hand stuff can you can play through a lot of hand injuries.
>> What' you say?
>> Hand stuff can be weird, man.
>> That's right.
>> I'll just leave.
>> He's got to touch it. He's got to rub it and and hold it.
>> If it's a ligament thing, that's bad.
Bad.
>> Yeah.
because that's a season ender probably >> and if it's a season ender then that's what happens but if it's just some kind of jam dislocated like you said something like that so there's literally each each end of the spectrum and we're not
>> I'm not a doctor >> so we don't we don't we're not going to try and diagnose what he's got there's I already see comments from people saying like well you know the way that he the way that he heard it like definitely
looks like a fracture I I got no idea >> how yeah how would you how would anybody know really the angle was really weird too I couldn't see whether or his his finger got caught in the jersey.
>> I think it got caught between Larry Markin's body and AD's body like almost cuz he kind of you know how like when you're going to defend some guy some guy and you're going to put your hand up against him to like try and embrace yourself a little bit. It looks like he did that but not fully with his hand
extended and it that just got caught between him and Larry and then Larry does the bump thing where he's driving and bumps him.
This is a tough one.
>> Yeah.
>> So, we're not going to speculate anymore. Coming up, let's talk about
anymore. Coming up, let's talk about Cooper Flag. His playmaking run he's
Cooper Flag. His playmaking run he's been on has been absolutely dynamic. The
ceiling for him is very high. Tell you
how I come.

>> 26 points, 10 boards, eight assists, had three steals, a block, four offensive rebounds, three of six from three, hit three of his four free throws, 10 of 18 from the field overall. He was a plus three in a game that the Mavs lost.
Like, he was just everywhere. This
playmaking run he's been on has been incredible. We've been tracking it every
incredible. We've been tracking it every post game. You're like, "Hey, five games
post game. You're like, "Hey, five games at least five assists. Hey, six games, a seven games." They were on nine games
seven games." They were on nine games now with at least five assists.
>> Yeah, I mean the playmaking has just by the rookie wall stuff if you watch the games it was like I mean it's not like he's playing terribly like he's just missing some shots and everything else looks good and that's what you want to
see. Yeah. But the the thing that is
see. Yeah. But the the thing that is encouraging beyond just the assist numbers ticking up cuz that can be you know team hey like guys are just hitting the threes now and then it'll go back to guys are missing threes and then the
assist numbers will dip down. He's like
starting to make these advanced reads and these advanced passes. Uh he had a possession in this game where he drove and Kevin Love came to help.
>> Yeah.
>> And then Sensib was in the the weak corner and came down to help on Gaffford >> and Coupe like looked off Sensib, fired it to the corner for a Max Christie three.
>> Great pass midair. Like those are the plays right there where it's like oh man like that that is next level playmaking stuff. And
stuff. And yeah, I mean to get that at this stage is just unbelievable, man. Really is.
unbelievable, man. Really is.
>> He in transition is just insane to watch. Like it's just
watch. Like it's just >> great train >> absolute automatic points. It feels like it's one of the
points. It feels like it's one of the reasons why that's a big strength for the Mavericks this season. One of their only things on offense that they're good at is is transition transition offense.
And it's because of of Cooper Flag. The
finishes around the basket have been great. He had, you know, he had a, you
great. He had, you know, he had a, you know, righty floater on the on the right side of the the basket. He had a lefty layup on the other side. Like he's had he had multiple finishes around the rim, too. And he was operating out of the
too. And he was operating out of the pick and roll a couple times, too, with Gaffford on one side, with Anthony Davis. He just had a couple He can just
Davis. He just had a couple He can just do so many different things. Getting to
his spots, finishing the passing. Man, I
I I thought he was just dynamic in this game.
>> Yeah. I mean, he's he's been the team's best player this year. And tonight, he was far and away the best player for the Mavericks, probably the best player on the court in general. And yeah, the
these are the games where he just he does everything. He really does
does everything. He really does everything. And in a game where he
everything. And in a game where he shoots six threes and makes three of them, he is quite literally doing every single thing on the basketball court.
>> Yeah. All the stats I just read out were like it's like every part of the box score.
>> He's playing defense. He's guarding guys on the perimeter. He's blocking shots.
He's hoping down. He's rebounding. He's
playmaking. He's getting out in transition. He's shooting threes.
transition. He's shooting threes.
Literally every single thing that you can do to impact a basketball game.
Cooper flag did in a positive way tonight. And yeah, I mean it's unreal
tonight. And yeah, I mean it's unreal how good he is. I mean, seriously. I
mean, this is why it's like I I know AD gets hurt. That sucks. Obviously, like
gets hurt. That sucks. Obviously, like
that's obviously a huge bummer and definitely can swing the future of this this thing. But, uh, in terms of
this thing. But, uh, in terms of >> kind of important, >> it's a little important. Yeah. But in
terms of the game itself, like I mean these are this is one where I think you should enjoy as a fan where it's like, "Yeah, man. This kid is unbelievable."
"Yeah, man. This kid is unbelievable."
>> Yeah. This is the future and this is why you build around the future and and all the things we've been talking about for the last couple of weeks. You mentioned
that little that that rookie wall we talked quote unquote that we talked about and I only say I only keep harping back to rookie wall because Jason Kid said it was a rookie wall. So I'm just going to go back to it. It was three games he didn't shoot the ball well at
all. But over those last nine games,
all. But over those last nine games, 47.9% from the field, 38.7% from three, 81% from the free throw line. In this
game, you mentioned the three of six from three. He was taking these threes
from three. He was taking these threes confidently and that's something that's been massive for his game because guys are going to go under on screens.
They're going to they're going to play drop coverage against him and they are going to let him shoot the three and he's got to take those confidently. He
was early on, hit his first two, missed his next two and you could have just seen him, all right, well, let me just not take any more threes. But then he came back and he took he took more, hit another one, and three of six is incredible. And that's just that's all
incredible. And that's just that's all you want is to have the threat of the three so that all his stuff around the rim, all his all the all the drives and all that, all that stuff becomes even more potent when you're a threat from
three at least.
>> Yeah, 100%. I mean, even if even if he went 06 from three, obviously that would have sucked, but I would have at least liked the fact that he was shooting him and really just the whole team tonight.
I mean, I don't know. Uh the Mavs as a team shot I think >> 15 of 36 42% just about >> that. I mean both of those numbers have
>> that. I mean both of those numbers have to be close to a season high for the team.
>> They've had 16 a couple times >> both in terms of makes and attempts. I I
I like just the sheer volume of threes the Mavs are putting up tonight from all of their guys. Even guys who aren't three-point shooters like you know Naji put up five. I like that. Obviously Clay
put up 11. I love that. Nimhard put up four. He went one of four. I don't care.
four. He went one of four. I don't care.
I love the fact that he shot four threes. Like you're gonna have to shoot
threes. Like you're gonna have to shoot these shots.
We're at the part of we're at the stage of the Mavs offense where we're like just take threes. Like just just just take them at all.
>> But I that's I've been hammering that point. I'm like, you guys aren't going
point. I'm like, you guys aren't going to win games shooting 18 threes. Like
you're just not that's not a a winning formula.
>> So I'm happy they were able to put some up tonight.
>> They've made at least 15 eight times this season.
>> That's actually shocking.
>> I was shocked by that, too. They've uh
made less than 10. Let's see. One, two,
three four five six seven eight nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 times.
>> That's insane.
>> It's absolutely insane.
>> Yeah, that's >> You can't be both a bad three-point shooting team and a low volume one. You
got to pick one struggle.
>> Yeah, you got to either have the confidence to take them and miss them or just Yeah, that's the map. Map shot 52 almost 42 and 85% on on their shooting
splits and lost the game.
>> Yeah, it was a great shooting night. And
did they turn the ball over 20 times?
>> That's the I mean that's the thing if you want to break down actually why the Mavericks lost this game. It's not the 88 injury. There's obviously not
88 injury. There's obviously not anything Cooper flagged turnovers. 20
turnovers and every single player that played had a turnover. This is not this is not anymore like the well Luca had 10 turnovers or whoever had the ball all the time had all these turnovers, right?
Like my gosh, slightly almost died.
>> Oh, did I not mute that one?
>> No, you not the last one.
>> Oh, my bad.
>> That was violent. Dude, these allergies aren't seeing.
>> Oh, I'm getting destroyed. Every every
morning it feels like I I'm about to die.
>> This city sucks.
>> We live in different cities. Like, we've
live very different.
>> We live like an hour away from each other.
>> All right. This metroplex,
it's 80. In case you don't live, it's 80°, man. It's January. I saw
80°, man. It's January. I saw
>> All the trees think that it's they're should pollinate. It's they're just like
should pollinate. It's they're just like just spreading everything right now.
>> Pete Dela said this is on track to be the warmest winter yet. Yeah, it was 82 degrees on Christmas.
>> 25 degrees above average today. That's
been like every day it's been around this temperature.
>> Yeah. Yeah, it was 80 today.
>> No. Anyways, yeah. Uh
25 points off turnover.
>> Interesting. The Mavs turnovers or the pollen count right now in DFW.
>> Well, mine wasn't mine actually weren't that bad until just recently. Just a few minutes ago, I guess. Talking about
these Mavs turnovers.
>> It's been been a week for me. Every
single morning I wake up and have these terrible allergies.
>> Oh man. But, uh, who had three? Flag,
Nemhard, Clay, Brandon Williams, all the guys that handle the ball tonight, all had three all had three turnovers.
>> Two of them, Max and Brandon Williams, both just fell down.
>> Yeah.
>> In the same spot on the right wing by the elbow on the the right side of the court when they in the first half. That
was strange. But yeah, who else? Anthony
Davis, Gaffford, Kale Martin each had two. Max Christie, and Nagio each had
two. Max Christie, and Nagio each had one. Everybody was at fault tonight. And
one. Everybody was at fault tonight. And
it's there's just so many different reasons why turnovers have been such a killer for this team.
>> Yeah. And they had uh three turnovers late in this game in the and clutch and um six in the fourth quarter. I mean
that's just Jazz had nine points off turnovers in the fourth quarter. Like
that swung the game >> their first two possessions of the fourth quarter. Neard a pass to Martin a
fourth quarter. Neard a pass to Martin a turn turnover on the side like a side out and then Martin to Nemhard the turnover again. Like that that that
turnover again. Like that that that combo. I don't know if they've ever
combo. I don't know if they've ever passed to each other before tonight, though. So,
though. So, >> yeah, true.
>> Yeah. I mean, it's just it's a problem with this team that's probably not going away. I mean, this just
away. I mean, this just >> going to plague this team all year long and it's a very easy way to lose games that you probably you look at the shooting splits and everything and it's like, >> oh, the Mavs won this game, right?
>> Yeah. I I was doing Lockdown NBA last night and Tony East has this game where he's like, what if I gave you this box score? Would you be happy with it? Would
score? Would you be happy with it? Would
you think the Mavs like won the game?
They shoot 52 42 85, you know, splits.
You get 30 assists. You hit 15 threes.
Flag gets 26. Klay gets 23. 80 puts in 20 and 11. Like you'd be like, "Oh yeah, heck yeah. Let's go. That was a good
heck yeah. Let's go. That was a good game."
game." >> Yep.
>> Nope.
>> Yeah. And it literally they lost because of their turnovers and those points off of turnovers. Cuz once again, they did a
of turnovers. Cuz once again, they did a pretty good job. I mean, the Jazz are a great offensive team for all of their shortcomings elsewhere. They did a great
shortcomings elsewhere. They did a great job. I mean, once the Jazz got in the
job. I mean, once the Jazz got in the half court, played great defense, forced tough shots, Jazz shot >> 64 points in the paint.
>> The Jazz had >> Yeah.
>> Yeah. But I mean, that's that is what it is cuz um weirdly enough, they're just a weird game. I I'd actually be interested to see how many of those came off fast breaks off turnovers.
>> They had 19 fast break points.
>> Yeah, that's that's bad.
That's bad.
>> Not good. Not good.
Coming up, Klay Thompson, great game.
Anthony Davis, I thought had a decent game. We'll talk about some of the other
game. We'll talk about some of the other contributions and uh what the Mavs do with this going forward.

>> SHUT IT DOWN. LET'S GO HOME.
>> All right, Sly talking about the Mavs loss to the Utah Jazz. Another clutch
loss, too. Mavs just they keep finding ways to stay in this game. And I go back to this moment about four minutes left in the game. Naji Marshall inbounds the ball. Cooper flag crosses him right
ball. Cooper flag crosses him right right in front of him. goes to the corner spin corner three heave.5 left on the clock hits the shot and they call it off. If that shot goes in, the Mavs win
off. If that shot goes in, the Mavs win this game.
>> Yeah. I mean that that literally started the snowball pretty much right then and there.
>> The snowball of badness. Yeah.
>> The snow snowballadness cuz >> they were up by seven right before that.
>> Yeah. I mean that that looked like the Mavs were going to take control of the game and then the Jazz went on their run literally right after they took that basket away.
That reminds me of Mavs teams in the past we would talk about where it be like a they miss a three and then they hang their head on the other end of the court and they're just just walk down.
It's like man when something like that happens and it gets called off you just you lose so much momentum and lose just a win gets taken out of your sails.
>> Yeah. I mean definitely sucks. Would
have been cool if that shot went in.
They should have just counted it.
>> It went in for in real life.
>> It did. Yeah. Rule of cool. You got to count that.
>> He shot it and it went in. Yeah.
Rule of cool >> in the uh like the spirit of the game.
It they should have discounted it.
>> Absolutely. Oh,
I just saw the most egregious Applebee's ad I've ever seen.
>> Was it AI?
>> No, they have a cheeseburger that comes in like a skillet and the cheeseburger is cut in half and placed face down in a bed of
melted cheese, like liquid cheese.
calling. They're calling it a cheese pool.
>> Yeah, a cheese pool, man. If you go, "Hey, man. Please, nobody from this show
"Hey, man. Please, nobody from this show go get that. Please have some respect for yourself."
for yourself." >> Hey, you know what? At least
>> we don't Applebee's isn't as an We don't have Applebees as an advertiser, dude.
>> We don't know. We're clear on that. At
least they have uh bacon on it, too, just in case.
>> Please don't go eat that, guys.
>> The pole doesn't even look like the pole. You can the cheese pole. Like you
pole. You can the cheese pole. Like you
can actually see the stringing cheese, but it doesn't stick to the burger. Like
>> it's not even What's the point of doing that? It's just presentation.
that? It's just presentation.
>> That's just insanity.
>> It's not enhancing your burger in any way.
>> I mean, that's just insane.
>> Also, make want to make sure you know it's a double cheeseburger as well. Two
two patties and bacon plus cheese in between each of the patties. And
>> what do you put on your burger?
I'm uh well because I'll make them at home, but I I'm usually cheese.
I like putting onions on there, then maybe some peppers or, you know, lettuce.
>> And I love a banana pepper on a burger.
>> Yeah, I love peppers.
>> I got to do a lot of pickles.
>> Every now and then I'll throw an egg on there.
>> Yeah, heck. I made burgers with with a you know, sunny side up egg the other day. Great.
day. Great.
>> Yeah, I literally had that last night.
>> Oh, great. You do them in a cast iron pan.
No, I do have a cast iron pan, but it gets a little too smoky sometimes. And
>> well, you got to use the unsalted butter. That changed that changed my
butter. That changed that changed my world.
>> I don't use butter to make my burgers.
>> So good.
>> You like there's just so much taste already in the meat.
>> Trying to keep it positive.
>> Yeah. That much to say until we find out what hap h we're really vamping until we find news.
>> Yeah. If there's like a Hey, he'll be all right. Okay, cool.
all right. Okay, cool.
>> Jason Kid said did say he had a left hand injury, so >> yeah, I mean, he won't know.
>> He never has anything about injuries, which is just just fine. Just fine.
>> Klay Thompson.
>> Klay Thompson. I thought he had his one of his best games of the season. 23
points, a season high five assists, hit six threes. He was driving, kicking. He
six threes. He was driving, kicking. He
was doing a whole bunch of stuff. This
was like a vintage Klay Thompson game.
>> Yeah, Klay was great tonight. I mean, he had his I think they said season high in both points and assists in this game.
>> That tracks 23.
>> Yeah. 23 points, uh, five assists. He
He's kind of quietly been a pretty solid playmaker for this team.
>> The Clippers.
>> Yeah. Okay. Uh, and yeah, when he's just shooting threes, I mean, and then they're going in, you know, this team desperately needs his volume three-point shooting. So, it's it's nice to
shooting. So, it's it's nice to have these games. and you would like to win these games obviously when you get to Clay Six of 11 games and he's getting 20 points,
but it it does it does sort of shift. I
mean, he had there was a play uh and I think it led to a Caleb Martin baseline drive uh where Klay got doubled off of a screen. I mean, two guys went to him and
screen. I mean, two guys went to him and it wasn't like an intentional double, but it was one of those >> Yeah.
>> You know, like, oh my god, Clay's coming off a screen and and the defense kind of panics. That type of gravity. I mean,
panics. That type of gravity. I mean,
there's no one else on this team who has that.
>> No, no. the just the respect of that and I mean Anthony >> Christiey's Christiey's good but he doesn't command that.
>> Yeah. Right.
>> Anthony Davis will get doubled out there though but >> in a different way. He was getting doubled early in this game.
>> Clay also at the end of the first quarter had this dribble handoff with Gaffford fell down. Still got the pass to Flag and Flag hit I think his second three or first.
>> Oh yeah. Yeah. That was nice.
>> That was that was a good pass that just just so happened to go in >> man. Um Gaff zero points zero field goal
>> man. Um Gaff zero points zero field goal attempts.
Yeah, that was one. He had seven boards, four fouls, couple turnovers. Just a a weird game. The
weird game. The >> not a good game. He was bad.
>> Yeah, bad. Jazz didn't have either Kesler or Nerk in the game. And
>> no, this is not this is not a double big matchup. Like I I kind of get it
matchup. Like I I kind of get it >> the double bigs a bunch.
>> I know. I kind of get it against the like the Rockets.
>> Did you hear him talk about Did you hear Kid say the new Mav strategy last last game?
>> No. What was it >> post game? He was like, "Yeah, you know, we found something new. Offensive
rebounding. It's going to be our new It's going to be our new strategy." I
did a whole I did a whole video about it yesterday.
>> Oh man, that is really funny. Well,
>> nine offensive rebounds tonight. 10 to
for the Jazz.
>> Yeah, mission failed on that front.
>> Discovered a new thing and then lost it.
>> That'd be funny if KK was like, "Well, we won offensive. We We made too many shots tonight." So,
shots tonight." So, >> you can't get offensive rebounds if you don't miss.
>> No, I mean, uh, >> they had a 25% offensive rebound percentage. That's 36 percentile.
percentage. That's 36 percentile.
>> Yeah, that's not good. Yeah, I mean the double big stuff, especially in a match up like this where the Jazz are just spacing the floor with everybody. It
like Gaff already struggles against those teams. So now you're putting a double big configuration out there really makes no sense. Nagi was great tonight.
>> What kind of feelings did you have as a basketball fan watching Klay Thompson contest a Kevin Love three when they play for the Mavs and the Jazz?
>> Kevin Love was hilarious because it looked like he suffered an old man injury like one minute into the game.
was just limping around the rest of the time. I was like, "Can we get him out
time. I was like, "Can we get him out the game, man? Like, is he all right?"
>> Then he was over on the sideline joking with Will Hardy and I'm like, "I think he's older than Will Hardy."
>> Oh, yeah. I think he is.
>> Yeah, Kevin Love is 37. I think Will Hardy's >> He was good. Kevin Love was actually pretty good tonight.
>> Well, they're same age.
I >> actually always wondered that old like younger coach, old player. What's that
dynamic like?
>> Well, LeBron and JJ Reic right now.
>> Yeah.
True.
>> Shout out to Carile for getting his a thousandth win.
>> Yep. Shout out to Rick. Underappreciated
Maz Legend. Weirdly enough, I I feel like he does not get enough appreciation from his fan base and I'm not entirely sure why >> there's not enough I don't think there's enough distance between him the end of the tenure there and
>> that's that's a good point. Yeah. I
think it just and even then I thought that >> I think there I think there's I think there's some lasting like some animosity between fans and Carlile because of how
Luca didn't want it like >> that's that's where I was kind of going to go with that. I felt like that was a bad kind of a bad divorce and that's kind of what everyone remembers.
>> Yeah. And they took obviously took a side took they took the kids side.
>> Yeah. I mean of course you're always going to take the the superstars side and something like that.
>> I don't know. Would you rather have Brad Stevens or would you rather have >> It's a superstar league.
>> You remember that?
>> Oh, yeah. Who Who are those players?
>> Manx, he said, "Would you rather have Giannis or'd rather have Brad Stevens?"
Was that >> I'll take the >> head coach? The Boston Celtics wouldn't wouldn't want Brad Stevens the head coach. They moved him to the front
coach. They moved him to the front office.
>> Soon to happen with kid.
>> Naji was good tonight. I feel like we always kind of overlook Naji for some reason. It's just like a It's just been
reason. It's just like a It's just been a solid contribution every single night doing doing it and >> it's actually respect. It's actually a sign of respect that we don't mention it because it's just like, yep, Naji did Naji things tonight.
>> Yeah, Naji did his thing. 17 points,
four assists, 7-Eleven from the field.
Hit two threes big.
>> Yeah. Again, one of those guys where it's like just shoot them, man. Feels
like his three-point shooting has ticked up recently.
>> And the Mavs are looking for him, too, I think. And like because they know that
think. And like because they know that the teams are leaving him open like all right we're gonna we're gonna >> and I'll say this too like uh I don't even know how many assists he finished with in this game. They finished with
>> four. I mean that's a solid number but
>> four. I mean that's a solid number but the coupe point guard stuff it's more Naji point guard honestly.
>> Yeah. Like they started again today with with Max Flag and Naji in the back court.
>> Yeah. And it's more like Naji is handling the more what you would consider the traditional point guard stuff.
>> Yeah. It was that way at the beginning of the season a little bit too. Yeah.
Yeah. It's not like Coops bringing the ball up and then immediately getting into some action.
>> All right, we'll see what happens. Soon
as we get AD News, we'll we'll let you know. We'll talk about that. We'll break
know. We'll talk about that. We'll break
it all down. Slightly bias his show on YouTube. All kinds of stuff. Great stuff
YouTube. All kinds of stuff. Great stuff
on the Heymaker. Our friend Kirk Henderson on the show today.
>> That's right. Shout out Kirk.
>> Thanks so much for listening to Locked on Mavs. Peace out.
>> That was a fitty one.
