Can an AI app replace your coach and potentially save you thousands of dollars? Well, that's what we're going
dollars? Well, that's what we're going to find out today. What's up, guys?
Welcome back to Gladius Tribe. My name
is Greca and today we're once again partnering up with our friends from Swing Vision to do a mid-depth review because an in-depth review would be way
too long of a video of the Swing Vision app and find out whether or not it can fully replace your coach or at least partially do so. And in order to do that, we're actually going to be heading
out to one of the most luxurious tennis clubs or tennis facilities that I've ever been to or played on courts of. And
we're going to be playing on one of the most beautiful indoor courts, at least on camera, that I've ever filmed, I think. And honestly, I just can't ignore
think. And honestly, I just can't ignore the growth in popularity of tennis in the last year or so because like everyone seems to be playing tennis lately and all of the new clubs that are
being built, you know, the little tennis cafes with these kind of like Wimbledon seats and like the just the aesthetic of tennis has just gone on a whole another level, which I'm absolutely loving. All
the girls are playing tennis, which makes our sport even more beautiful than it used to be. And I am kind of getting off track here. Let's stop flexing with the facilities we're going to be playing on and get to the review. So, today
we'll be doing a casual 1-hour long practice and have Swing Vision recording the entire thing. We'll be going over all of the modes that exist in the app, including rally, surf practice, and match play. And the only one that we're
match play. And the only one that we're not going to be covering today is the ball machine because I want to save that one for later because I have something exciting planned. But now, it's time to
exciting planned. But now, it's time to warm up and check out the rally mode.
So, the rally mode is pretty much the mode you can choose if you're warming up, doing control exercises, or just casually playing without a specific goal. As you can see, we start the
goal. As you can see, we start the warm-up as usual, doing a few controls in the middle at first, and then switching to the cross chords. What you
notice right away is what I absolutely love about Swing Vision is that it only leaves the actual rallies, no dead footage of us talking, walking, or picking up the balls, which is always
super annoying to skip when you're watching over the footage. So, it only leaves the actual highlights of the play. As you can see, the immediate
play. As you can see, the immediate stats you get from swing vision as you're watching the actual highlights is your placement on court, the shot placement, the speed, and the type of the shot you're hitting, which is
already pretty cool. Not just for the actual game improvement, but also to post on your social media. As you can see now, I've approached the net and swing vision can identify that I'm
hitting volleys now and will track my volley performance, keeping in mind all the net game nuances that exist and not think that it's just a forehand or a backhand that I'm hitting close to the
net. The warm-up is over and now let's
net. The warm-up is over and now let's take a look at all of the stats that we managed to collect in the 20 or so minutes of warming up. So, if you click on our session, you can see all of the
rallies and the highlights. And as I said, the very useful feature that it only picks the actual highlights and the actual tennis playing. If we scroll a little further and check out the shot
stats, we get the sort of like, you know, the basic information. Uh, and if you want a more detailed analysis, you can go ahead and press show advanced stats. And this way you will get the
stats. And this way you will get the stats of your forehands uh, and your backhands and just a more sort of detailed analysis. So my overall shots
detailed analysis. So my overall shots were 77% in which is actually, you know, pretty good. We did 202 shots per hour,
pretty good. We did 202 shots per hour, which seems a little low, but yes, longest rally was 18 shots. I guess it's okay. 61% of the rallies were above five
okay. 61% of the rallies were above five shots. And you get the point. As you can
shots. And you get the point. As you can see, it also would have tracked the serves if I would have served any serves, but I didn't. So, it says that, you know, I didn't serve anything. No
stats on the serves. We'll get to the serve a little further. And here, as I said, we get the more detailed analysis of the forehand against the backhand.
And as you can see, for some reason, I've made more mistakes playing crosscourt than down the line. I guess
it's just because I made more crosscourt shots. But yeah, there you go. These are
shots. But yeah, there you go. These are
all of the stats you get. Uh 75 km per hour average crosscourt speed. Not bad.
But what I have to mention here is that to the speed that the app actually shows you, you have to add about 10 to 15%.
Because the way that Swing Vision measures the speed of the ball is not like on the ATP or WTA tournaments where they measure the top speed at like the highest point. Swing Vision actually
highest point. Swing Vision actually measures the average speed. So, it's
always going to be a little bit lower than, you know, your top speed. So, you
just have to add about 10 to 20% to the speed that is shown in the app to get your top highest speed of the shot. As
you can see here, we can also see the placement of the shots. And it makes sense that most of my shots went to the middle because we were doing a warm-up.
So, that's why it's like 50%. Most of my shots went over uh the service line, which is, you know, something you'd come to expect from a professional tennis player. But, you know, you never know.
player. But, you know, you never know.
But it it's nice to see that most of my shots are actually flying pretty deep.
And then you can also see your placement on court while you're taking the shot. I
would say that it's actually a lot more useful to see them in kind of like uh a progression. So, if you actually track
progression. So, if you actually track yourselves and compare the results based on, you know, several trainings, you will actually see certain STS improving as you go or, you know, if you're working on something, you know, if
you're changing the grip or if you're changing the technique, your forehand might, you know, lose the speed or lose the consistency or whatever. But it's
just something that you're going to be able to track as well as your positioning and the depth of the shots and the placement of the shots, which is something that I personally really like about Swing Vision. By the way, Glads, if you feel like trying out Swing
Vision, the link to get it is going to be down in the description below. And if
you sign up to their one-year plan, you will also get the Swing Vision stick for free, which is one of the most useful ways of hanging up your phone to get the
optimal angle and, you know, the optimal results from uh Swing Vision. You you'll
get it for free. It's worth like $100.
So, it's not a bad deal. And it's
actually something that I use myself since I've received it to record myself whenever, you know, I need to hang my phone up somewhere. By the way, one thing I do have to mention as well is
that accuracy of the app might vary depending on how you set up your phone, first of all, of course, and also the surface. If it's like a clay chord that
surface. If it's like a clay chord that is old and the lines are kind of like, you know, kind of sunk into the chord, you might get some inaccuracies because it has happened to me where I put up the camera when playing on clay chords and
the shot is like this much inside the chord and it calls it out or it's this much out and it actually calls it like on the line which really pisses me off because I like things to work really well. But I can't blame the app for that
well. But I can't blame the app for that because the chords, some of the chords, clay chords are horrible. I don't like clay. The app doesn't like clay. I don't
clay. The app doesn't like clay. I don't
know why we're still playing on clay.
But hey, that's a topic for another day.
But now it's time to warm up our serve.
And for that, we're going to be using the serve practice mode, which is a mode where the app primarily focuses on tracking your serve, the consistency, the placement, and the speed. And then
it also gives you advice based on the footage that it has got. Now, it also has the goal mode, which basically allows you to choose the specific area of the service box where you would like
to practice the serve, and then it just calls it in or out based on whether or not you're actually putting the serve in. Now, let's go ahead and start the
in. Now, let's go ahead and start the warm-up. As I said, since we're not
warm-up. As I said, since we're not practicing our serves and just doing a warm-up, I didn't enable the target practice mode and just told Swing Vision to call out the balls that just don't go
inside the service box. I wasn't serving too good, by the way, on that day. But
don't mind my excuses. By the way, Glads, if you want a more in-depth review of this particular function of Swing Vision, the serve practice mode, check out the video that I posted like a
month ago over here where I served 1,000 serves over 10 days. That's like a 100 serves every single day, tracking them with swing vision and uh actually playing a tournament in the end of the
challenge to see the progress and how my serve has improved in those 10 days. The
results are actually pretty crazy. It's
a very cool video and uh thanks to Swing Vision, I was actually managing to track the performance and actually see the improvement in numbers which was really cool. But yeah, that's going to be up
cool. But yeah, that's going to be up over there as I said. Now though, let's go ahead and check out the stats that we've collected in the 35 serves that I served during this warm-up. 35 serves is
a lot for a warm-up, but hey, I guess I like to warm up my serve well. But yeah,
uh let's go ahead and check the shot stats. 43 shots in. Pretty bad. Not
stats. 43 shots in. Pretty bad. Not
going to argue with you guys. 43% of the serves in is not the best, but hey, it is what it is. 63% of the serves in the advantage side went in and 37 in the
deuce. Average serve speed was 175 km an
deuce. Average serve speed was 175 km an hour. If you add 10 to 15% to that, it's
hour. If you add 10 to 15% to that, it's not a bad average serve speed. And uh
for some reason, I served way faster to the advantage side than I did to the ducet. But hey, clearly swing vision
ducet. But hey, clearly swing vision will not be able to replace your coach in terms of, you know, someone who can actually teach you how to serve. If you
don't have a good technique if you don't know how to serve, you're not going to be able to learn with just swing vision.
You need someone to actually teach you and tell you all the nuances about the technique. But what swing vision does
technique. But what swing vision does better than the coach, like way better than the coach, is actually give you a very solid and objective view of your
actual current serve uh state. if you're
uh your percentage, your placement, your consistency. And these stats are is just
consistency. And these stats are is just something that your coach will wouldn't be able to count and keep in their head.
So, that's actually something that I really love because I'm a person of numbers. And uh I think you would really
numbers. And uh I think you would really appreciate it as well, but yeah, I guess we'll only know if you try. But now,
it's time to play a match. And for that, we're going to be using match mode. And
here, Swing Vision will be tracking all of the shots that are happening on the court. You can pick the amount of sets
court. You can pick the amount of sets you're going to play, the amount of games in the set, and just basically set up the rules for the match you're going to be playing. One little thing that's missing for me is the ability to choose a tiebreak or a super tie break. So, if
you want to play a tiebreaker or super tiebreak, don't choose match play, choose uh the rally mode because yeah, it just doesn't have that function available right now. But that's
something that Swing Vision is going to fix with a future update. So, don't
worry about that. But now, it's time to play the match. As you can see, you can also connect your Apple Watch for an easier setup, for better point tracking, and to challenge some of the calls that
you know, you doubt whether it went in or out. But today, I forgot my Apple
or out. But today, I forgot my Apple Watch at home. But, you know, you can still do everything without it. It's
fine. It's no biggie. We'll we'll figure it out. But if you have an Apple Watch,
it out. But if you have an Apple Watch, it's cool because it's actually a useful addition to the app. Since we play just a tie break though, we don't have the scoring. But here's some footage of me
scoring. But here's some footage of me playing a tournament which I filmed with Swing Vision where the scoring worked really well. All right, in terms of the
really well. All right, in terms of the stats that you get while you play, they're pretty much the same as the ones you get in the rally mode. The only
thing that changes is the scoring which actually happens automatically and it's a feature that I absolutely love about Sol. When you're setting up the match,
Sol. When you're setting up the match, you can pick the scoring format. It can
be final score, game by game, and point by point. If you don't have an Apple
by point. If you don't have an Apple Watch though, you can only use the final score feature, which does a pretty decent job at scoring if you set everything up correctly. Game by game is obviously more accurate, where you
choose the player that won the game after every game. And point by point is even more accurate where you choose the player that won the point. And then
there's also the mode where it's pretty much like point by point, but you also select the type of shot that won the point. But honestly, this mode is way
point. But honestly, this mode is way too advanced for me because I just can't always keep it in my head to actually, you know, select the player that won the point after every point and then also specify the shot. But if you're going to
be able to do that, it's going to be the most accurate way of scoring. Another
pretty cool feature that is implemented in the app that can actually be very useful for some of you is the filter function. You can actually filter out
function. You can actually filter out the rallies or even the shots that you would like to see and uh check based on their length point winner or who won the point, the type of shot. And that's
actually pretty cool. Also, you can even do it by the scoring uh type. So, if you want to only see the break points or only see the deuce points, you can do that. So, it's it's a pretty useful
that. So, it's it's a pretty useful feature that I sometimes use myself as well because from like a three-hour long match, I can remember a certain point that was at like 1530 or that ended with like this type of shot and I only want
to see this and I don't want to see, you know, the 100 points that we've played and actually like go through them and it can actually be very useful. So, that's
definitely a feature that you should check out if you're going to end up trying out Swing Vision. So, now let's go ahead and check out the match stats from this match. And as you can see, we played 119 points. Here we have the
score. In the short stats, we get pretty
score. In the short stats, we get pretty much the same uh you know overall uh stats of your you know ground strokes.
You can go ahead and click uh show advanced stats to get the forehand and backhand analytics as well. But here
again, we get the serve stats as well because unlike in the rally mode where we didn't serve, here we actually served. 57% of the serves in, 62% of the
served. 57% of the serves in, 62% of the serves in on the deuce side. Not ideal
but not too bad. 21 shots longest rally, which is actually impressive for just, you know, it's it's a match. It's not
like a warm-up where you're just chill.
You're actually like intensive long rally. It's it's it's pretty cool. And
rally. It's it's it's pretty cool. And
what is more cool here is the match stats where you actually get the analytics as if you were playing like a an ATP or a WTA tournament where in the end of every set or in the end of the match, you actually get, you know, the
stats of your winners, unforced errors, forehand, backhand winners, down the line, blah blah blah. and it's like super detailed and I actually really love it because it's very easy to understand. You can also get AI uh
understand. You can also get AI uh advice from an AI coach where it takes all this information, packs it up and kind of just spits out sort of like things you need to work on. So it can
tell you, hey, 50% of the shots that you went back and down the line you won. Or
50% of the shots that you try to go inside out to his back end, you lost or something something along those lines.
then it's actually pretty helpful because it really well uh shows all of your strength and weaknesses and things you need to work on or you know that you can count on in like those really tight
situations. So like if it's like a you
situations. So like if it's like a you know advantage or a 40 all score you know okay maybe it's not a good idea right now to play backand down the line because most of the time I miss it. The
AI coach is only available in the highest tier of Swing Vision which is the one that I have the Swing Vision Max. Uh but hey, even without it,
Max. Uh but hey, even without it, there's a lot of other functions available in the app which are super super useful and you know you can do a lot of things with. So there you have it glads. Let's go ahead and come back to
glads. Let's go ahead and come back to the initial question that we asked in the beginning of the video. Can Swing
Vision replace your coach? And the short answer to this question is obviously no because it can't. But to the question of whether or not it can partially replace your coach, the answer is definitely
yes. Because swing vision can do certain
yes. Because swing vision can do certain things that a coach simply can't do because they're a human and they just can't keep so much information in their head. And I guess the best scenario for
head. And I guess the best scenario for anyone would be to kind of combine a coach and swing vision because these stats are actually very very useful for the coaches as well. Kind of like a man
and machine kind of, you know, working together. I really hope that you've
together. I really hope that you've enjoyed this video. If you did, feel absolutely free to hit that like and subscribe and hit the bell to not miss the future video that I'm planning with
swinging with vision and a ball machine.
And uh yeah, as always, my name is Greca. You're watching Gladiators and I
Greca. You're watching Gladiators and I will see you Glads in the next one.
Bye-bye.
