Devishri's Winning Speech-Gaveliers Global Champion of Public Speaking 2022

By GLOBAL YOUTH GAVEL CLUBS GROUP

Summary

## Key takeaways - **Blindness vs. Visionless Life**: Most people would choose deafness over blindness to keep smiling at insults, but being blind is devastating—yet worse is having eyesight without a life vision. Physical vision sees surroundings, but a true vision builds an inclusive society. [00:16], [01:30] - **Blind Mother's Factory Work**: A blind woman begged with her newborn at a traffic signal due to unstable income, but inside the factory, she worked packing spices to feed her crying baby, who then smiled at her. This showed how employment restores hope for marginalized blind women like single mothers and widows. [02:45], [04:00] - **Employer's Impactful Mission**: The employer had a vision to rewrite stories of less fortunate blind mothers, enabling them to work eight hours a day despite economic challenges. This mission inspired the speaker to unlearn narrow realities and embrace broader inclusivity. [04:30], [05:45] - **Broad Vision Over Narrow Careers**: Our vision should not be so narrow as to only become doctors, teachers, engineers, or scientists—instead, be brave to say you want a broad vision making life a level playing field. Physical vision sees things, but empathetic vision reaches out to others. [06:15], [07:30] - **Supporting Dyslexic Children**: The speaker visits a neighborhood institution for dyslexic children, teaching them reading and writing, which has improved their abilities tremendously. Fellow students can help similar peers in class to achieve a level playing field. [08:00], [09:15] - **Commit to Inclusive Visions Now**: Today is the day to define broad visions, kickstart journeys towards them, and reaffirm commitments, even if they don't match others' expectations. As future leaders, never blindfold yourselves—let inspiring stories broaden visions and leave a legacy. [09:45], [11:30]
