hello friends and family welcome back to another interview experience video yet again i know i've done a few of these lately but you know what the rejections keep on coming well even though okay actually technically i
wasn't rejected for this one but anyways so let's jump into it so what is ericsson well to be honest i didn't really know about ericsson properly i kind of just applied on a whim so i applied to their um technology graduate
program i think this one was based in melbourne but i believe they also have roles in sydney and just across the entire world they are very um they're very big telecommunications company and so yeah applied to their
graduate program on the 16th of february so very early on in the year and on the 24th of march so almost five weeks later i got an email
saying inviting me to do one of those kind of online video interviews so not live but basically where you record yourself uh and then kind of send that off so
that was pretty short and sweet um i remember the questions were firstly why do you want to work for ericsson and i kind of just talked about like the impact and the clients um the ability to like grow and meet
interesting people and also touched on diversity which honestly is pretty generic like you can pretty much do that for any company um and then i just kind of talked about myself say they wanted to know like what
could you bring to their company so your strengths um so i think i mentioned my combination of business and technology knowledge having studied information systems and just like you know teamwork
communication all that fun stuff and then yeah on the 9th of april so about three weeks later um i got another email inviting me to do psychometric testing
um i thought this was kind of strange because normally you would do psychometric testing and then the interview but i think it actually makes sense to do it in this order because there's no point doing it spending all the time doing the testing
right if you're just going to fail the interview so that kind of makes sense to do the interview first because i feel like it cuts off more people but yes i did that and then on the 7th of may so almost a month later i got
an email asking me to do an assessment center on the 17th of may so 10 days later uh so yeah overall this process took a long time about three months to the
from the time that i had applied to the day that i did my assessment center obviously um you know i was applying to other things as well so it wasn't like i was checking my email every day just waiting to hear back from them it was more like you know you do
this and then you kind of forget about it and then you get an email kind of like that so yeah um overall it was a really long process um but it is kind of standard um in terms of other
companies that i've applied to it is a very long wait and you need to be patient for the actual assessment center we basically got an email giving a quick agenda so it was going to be about two hours long and
was going to be on microsoft teams which as soon as i heard that i was like oh no this is this is not it they're saying it yeah i don't know if it's just me but i swear microsoft teams just never works out for me so on the
day they told me to kind of log in i guess 15 minutes early so i would say you don't need to be that early like that's a bit of overkill um i would say maybe five minutes early is a good time because
yeah i think they just want to make sure that you're on time basically so as long as you're not late then you'll be fine so yeah logged in and then i remember as soon as i got on it was very very
laggy like um and i'm not sure if other people had experienced the same thing i think it was just me so it was kind of difficult because like i could barely see what was on my screen and it wasn't my computer like i have a
new m1 mac so like it's you know it's not to do with me i just think microsoft teams for some reason it just doesn't work very well uh but anyways so we did that um so the assessment center had
about seven or eight other people um everyone else i remember was in australia i was the only person from new zealand so it started off just pretty chill um basically just a quick introduction
um someone from the recruitment team was there and they explained you know like this is a bit about our company this is how the assessment center is gonna work um and then we kind of each went around
and just introduced ourselves so yeah i would say if you have it just um you don't really need to prepare i mean you should really know how to introduce yourself by now like all you gotta say is hi my name is catherine
i study at this university and this is my major um i remember there were also some people that i think had already graduated and other people they had were studying a master's as well
um so yeah there's a quite diverse range of people so that was quite good and then we did a quick icebreaker which honestly was a bit strange but um basically what happened is they would email you a picture of an item
and then you kind of just had to like pitch that item and say why it was important i think i got a photo of a brick so that was pretty easy because i could be like you know you need a brick to build shelter if you're under
attack for whatever reason but i know there's other people that got things like a strawberry or like i don't even know it was um it was pretty hard but yeah i think and i just wanted to see your creativity
and i guess problem solving as well i don't know it went into two kind of questions that we basically had to discuss so we did they did mention beforehand that um you know we had to kind of
prepare on the topics that erickson kind of works around so i did kind of predict or i kind of knew that they were probably going to ask something about like you know internet of things or like telecommunications or something like
that but to be honest i didn't really do that much preparation this is kind of like an ongoing problem but yeah i didn't do a ton of preparation however everyone else seemed
to like really be onto it so definitely hard um especially when you know there's seven or eight people kind of on like microsoft teams um it's not even in person so it's
it makes it even harder to kind of get a word in because everyone's trying to talk and everyone's trying to like you know basically make themselves sound smart and intelligent um and then i was just kind of like chilling and i didn't really talk much which i think
was one of my downfalls i guess the first question was what do you think is like the general impact of internet of things on society and i remember everyone pretty much just
got straight into it i think it's overall it did have a very technical feel like as a business student um obviously i study information systems but i still
i feel like my approach is almost like half business half technical whereas this was very much just technology and you know there were people studying like engineering and like computer science um network stuff so
yeah it was very like technology heavy which i guess made it a bit harder for me since like i tend to work better when it's more of like a business case and you know there's like technology
elements but it's also um you know you got to think about strategy and like basically i can like bs my way through like a business case but when it comes to like technology then you gotta
really know your stuff otherwise you're just gonna sound stupid um so yeah that was pretty tough um and then the second question was about virtual reality and how it
can transform people's lives and different industries and i think i contributed a little bit i talked about how like gaming affects a lot of people and a lot of people enjoy it you know it's big industry
so yeah i think we did that for about 20 20 minutes i would say and then afterwards we had a case study so everyone kind of had to work together and then we had about i think 20 20
minutes i want to say to discuss it the question was basically how operators can monetize 5g so i did have a feeling um that they would cover this since obviously it was a very relevant topic
um in terms of telecommunications and so yeah we had about i think of seven or eight people so we each kind of decided that we're going to talk for about a minute and we each ended up making a google doc and working
on that which is quite helpful and yeah we basically just took our own little portion so i ended up talking about business applications so i talked about implementation strategies which um i
knew about because that's kind of what i'm studying in terms of you know information systems and like erp uh so yeah i think i did that relatively well and then afterwards he basically just went into a q a
session so we had the opportunity to ask questions um to other people so there were two kind of technical managers um at the interview as well and they were they were kind of i guess
looking after the more technical side of things um so in the end i didn't end up asking any questions again i think this is probably something that i should have been doing i um because yeah i mean everyone says
always ask questions it just shows that you're more interested but honestly by this time i was like two hours in and i'm just pretty like tired and you know had like microsoft teams fatigue if that's a thing
and yes i didn't ask any questions and the thing ended up going like 10 minutes over time as well yeah that was kind of that and then about a month later i still hadn't heard back so i messaged the recruiter they were like oh you know we're still in the
process and now it's been two months and i still haven't heard back um which i think is a bit ridiculous like come on so yeah i think at this point i kind of know i didn't make it which is why i'm making this video
overall experience getting to the assessment center was fine um i don't really have any complaints but i think the actual assessment center could have definitely been run better at least in my opinion i feel like they
should have included maybe like a one-on-one interview or something because say you're i guess more of a quiet like introverted person it's very difficult for you to show your knowledge or your skills or
even like your experiences in that process so it's pretty hard i don't really have any regrets per se like i don't think i was a good fit for that role anyway it seemed very
much like technology heavy and i guess i wanted to do something kind of like in the middle where it's half business half tech but yeah that was my experience i hope you guys found it interesting if you are looking to apply for erickson
i would just say go for it i have a video on my cv as well so if you're interested i'll link that down below yeah that's it for today's video i hope you guys enjoy it and i'll see you guys in my next one ciao
