First Look at Mootion: How Does It Work? Who Is It For?

By AppSumo

Summary

## Key takeaways - **50-100 Videos Monthly Workflow**: I produce, shoot, and edit anywhere from 50 to 100 pieces of content a month, ranging from cartoon-based SEAL programs for kids in elementary school to CEO YouTubers on top of Teslas with flamethrowers. I'm constantly looking for workarounds and tools that shorten the process or eliminate steps to get content out faster. [00:00], [00:19] - **B-roll Solves Talking Head Boredom**: One of the most common problems is having talking head style videos without B-roll to fill the space, which gets really boring after a couple of minutes and makes viewers click away. Without a huge budget for high-end stock libraries or animation skills, you hit the end of the road. [00:39], [01:00] - **Mootion Crafts Full Storyboards**: I gave it a basic prompt 'Noah starts a business with only $5' and it's giving a breakdown of overall planning concept like starting the business, $5 become a millionaire, targeted at English speaking audience, and best practices for scenes like the hustle on a Saturday. [03:51], [04:31] - **Clip Scenes for Custom B-roll**: I just need like 60 seconds of B-roll, but I can take each one of these scenes individually and clip them up, which is killer from a video editing perspective. [07:12], [07:35] - **Credit Hungry but Scenes Selective**: Animations are credit hungry, using about 50% of monthly credits on a couple videos, but you can animate individual scenes instead of the full 30-scene story to save credits, and add more cheaply. [07:32], [08:21] - **Tier 2 Minimum for Animations**: Tier one at 1,700 credits won't work for me if animating scenes, but tier 2 is the minimum to start, as tier three's 8,000 credits got ripped through quickly even showcasing the tool. I produce, shoot, and edit anywhere from 50 to 100 pieces of content a month. And

the variety of that content ranges from cartoon-based SEAL programs for kids in elementary school to CEO YouTubers on top of Teslas with flamethrowers. Now,

50 to 100 pieces of content per month probably sounds like a lot, and that's because it is a lot of content. Because

of that, I'm constantly looking for workarounds and even tools that allow me to shorten the process or sometimes even eliminate steps in my workflow to be able to get content out faster and more efficiently. Recently, I came across

efficiently. Recently, I came across this tool called Motion. That's an AI video generator that helps create stories and turn other pieces of content into animated and static type videos.

One of the most common problems that I run into is having talking head style videos, but I don't actually have any B-roll to fill the space. And if you've ever watched a YouTube video of somebody

just talking straight to a camera, kind of like this for more than a couple of minutes at a time, it can get really boring and you're very likely to click away from that. But if you don't have a huge budget for high-end stock libraries

full of really high quality B-roll or animation skills, which most people don't have, you find yourself kind of hitting the end of the road and not knowing what to do with your content.

So, I'm going to try out this tool, Mion. I'm literally jumping in for the

Mion. I'm literally jumping in for the first time. I'm going to walk through

first time. I'm going to walk through the homepage and you're going to see me in real time try to use this and see if this is a tool even worth using. Okay,

so right when you get to the homepage, it looks like there's a bunch of different options of just like general templates. Science for kids, bedtime

templates. Science for kids, bedtime story, image style transfer. Grab a

picture real quick. This is a younger me with hair. See how long this takes. I

with hair. See how long this takes. I

don't know if anime style was the right choice. Clay art would have been sick.

choice. Clay art would have been sick.

Wallace and Grommet is definitely more my vibe. Taking a little while. I mean,

my vibe. Taking a little while. I mean,

sure, I guess if I was a sexy cartoon version of me. Let's try clay art. Maybe

maybe it'll be a little less sexy. Yo, I

mean, again, I'm not quite sure this is what I would use this for, but it's good to know this is an option. Interesting

vibe to say the least. We'll try one more. Let's try photo realistic. Okay. I

more. Let's try photo realistic. Okay. I

mean, if I was Dustin Kent from Thrice, then maybe. I look jacked. Let's go back

then maybe. I look jacked. Let's go back to workspace. The thing that I like

to workspace. The thing that I like about this too is when you go down to gallery, before you even jump into trying anything, you can look at various pieces that people have already created.

So, this shows you an exact example of the prompt that was given in here, what could have been used, um, how many scenes it created, the format, and then the duration of it, which is pretty cool.

>> Young Alice sat on the riverbank with her older sister. She was growing bored with the book her sister was reading as it had no pictures or dialogues. I make

content for elementary age students for a program. This is perfect for that type

a program. This is perfect for that type of use. If you've got young kids, if

of use. If you've got young kids, if you're doing any type of education with children, uh this is phenomenal. Um

let's check out some more photorealistic stuff. In a military camp near Rome, I'm

stuff. In a military camp near Rome, I'm constantly telling stories about soldiers from the early days.

>> In a bustling military camp on the outskirts of Rome, Marcus, a young soldier, stood amidst preparations for battle. The training grounds were alive

battle. The training grounds were alive with the clatter of swords and the pounding of feet.

>> Although he was skilled in combat, a deep fear lingered in his heart.

>> Try one of these cooking ones. Choosing

the perfect steak. Now, obviously, I can't read the summary on this one. I

would imagine.

>> Welcome to the gourmet grill where delicious steak.

>> Subtitles and captions.

>> Translation on.

>> Okay, the dubbing is pretty useful.

That's really helpful to be able to have direct language translation built into not just the subtitles, but the video themselves. Love that. I don't really

themselves. Love that. I don't really care for the stock image videos. It's

just it's not for me. It's a little spammy. That's just a slideshow in my

spammy. That's just a slideshow in my opinion. These are also ones people

opinion. These are also ones people created. I don't want to judge it too

created. I don't want to judge it too much off of this. So, maybe let's generate one. Noah starts a business

generate one. Noah starts a business with only $5.

Okay. It's g kind of an overview from looks like the director's point of view of how they would tell this story. So, I

gave it a pretty basic prompt. Noah

starts a business with only $5 is going to become a millionaire. And now it's kind of giving me a breakdown of overall planning concept starting the business $5 become a millionaire. It's likely

targeted an English speaking audience. I

mean it's man knows America love that or woman I don't know who the director is.

It's giving you kind of a background to what it's doing as opposed to just analyzing and giving you a couple of steps. It's going through and it's

steps. It's going through and it's actually taking the concept of what you wanted to talk about and giving you best practices. I don't know that it's always

practices. I don't know that it's always going to be right about this but it's right so far. Scene two, the hustle.

That's Saturday. Noah, starting a business on a weekend. There's for sure a book about this. These guys know this is pretty cool. I kind of expected when I jumped into it that I was literally just going to get like a plug and play, give it a prompt, and it's going to

animate those things for you. Okay, so

here's something I don't like. When we

got to this stage, it was the scene images storyboard out, which is really cool. And then it asked if I wanted to

cool. And then it asked if I wanted to animate all scenes. And apparently I accidentally clicked no, which is not what I wanted to do. I would have liked for it to animate even if it took a while longer. Um, but I clicked no. And

while longer. Um, but I clicked no. And

so now I can't go backwards. So, I guess pro tip, be careful when clicking stuff so that you don't mess up and waste all of that time. I'm complaining about something that I did, not the tool. So,

user error. Pay attention to what you're doing. Click the right buttons. Don't

doing. Click the right buttons. Don't

blame other people. Be responsible for your decisions. Go to therapy. Okay. So,

your decisions. Go to therapy. Okay. So,

coming up with a title from $5 to millionaire. I mean, pretty standard.

millionaire. I mean, pretty standard.

Crumpled $5 bill into a thriving cookie business. Shout out Noah. My man loves

business. Shout out Noah. My man loves snacks. Taco business would have been a

snacks. Taco business would have been a little more on brand, but that's fine.

In the bustling neighborhood of Parkside, a young and vibrant entrepreneur named Noah. Clutched

tightly in his fist was a crumpled $5 bill.

>> Not really a $5 bill in his hand there.

If you can see, it's kind of a very AI vibe right there, but it's not bad. I do

appreciate that it gives you some hashtags right here for some posting stuff. I don't know how optimized for

stuff. I don't know how optimized for SEO or platform trends that these are, but it's kind of nice that it gives you some of that stuff to work with, which is great. It gives you the script if you

is great. It gives you the script if you want to, I don't know, transcribe, use it for other things. What do you prefer to do next? Edit project. Let's see what I have the option to do. Animate. Let's

try that. All right. So, it took just about I don't know 2 minutes. Probably

was a little less than they promised.

Appreciate that. I mean, you can see the dollar bill situation. I'm not sure what's going on there, but I mean, it's not horrible for a quick scene. I'm

going to try one more. Love the way that this looks so far. I'm going to go with animate. Oh, let's go high quality. I do

animate. Oh, let's go high quality. I do

wish there was some sort of like countdown or timer. So scene 25. Okay,

that one's created. I wish there was a countdown or some sort of like loading bar for all these so I know I'm like is this like a 5m minute break where I have to just like sit here for a minute or is this like a 15 kind of break where I can

go make a sandwich or something or respond to messages on Slack? I guess

that's what my boss wants to hear in this. What does he do during his breaks?

this. What does he do during his breaks?

Make sandwiches. While I wait for this to load, dude, I've been bumping this record all day. This really want to know by all 60. I mean, they've got 3 million monthly listeners, so clearly I'm behind. They're new to me, but this

behind. They're new to me, but this record looks like it just came out.

Haven't listened all the way through yet, but banger. Start with Really Want to Know. Worth your time. Love this.

to Know. Worth your time. Love this.

It's a cool vibe. I haven't seen the full story yet, obviously, but these skateboarding visuals of this kid riding a school are pretty cool. This is all dope. And I think the thing that's nice

dope. And I think the thing that's nice about this from a video editing perspective is I'm not typically going to do like a 7 minute story. I just need like 60 seconds of B-roll. But I can take each one of these individually and I can clip these up, which is killer.

This one's really cool. Apparently,

there's a wolf at this school. I don't

know what that's about. That I mean, oh, there's a dog. Okay. I guess

something worth noting is that I have used about 50% of my monthly credits just by doing these uh these couple videos and then some of the ones that I generated between and then also um these

sweet photos that I made. So, it is pretty credit hungry when you start using animations, but the animation is really where it's at. I mean, like these these do these look great.

>> Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch in British history, known for her unwavering dedication to duty and service. Her early years were shaded with the innocence of ordinary

childhood joys despite her royal lineage. However, her path changed in

lineage. However, her path changed in 1936 when King Edward VII abdicated.

Okay, so now that you've seen Mushion in action, there are a couple of caveats that I feel like I need to mention that I didn't actually know when I was using the tool for the first time. One, I made a couple of comments about the tool being credit hungry, which I do still

believe it is, but I found now after using it a little while longer off camera that you actually have the ability to only animate individual scenes if you would like to. Um, so

instead of doing the 30piece scene story and animating every single one of them, you can go through and animate individual ones if you'd prefer to do that to save on credits. I obviously

wanted to animate everything to see how the tool works. And I did run through credits pretty quickly, but you also can go to your account settings and add more credits. And it's not that expensive to

credits. And it's not that expensive to add enough to do another couple of animations or even a full story if you wanted to. So to be fair, they do make

wanted to. So to be fair, they do make it pretty easy for you to animate more than what is allotted in your monthly credits. Second, there are a handful of

credits. Second, there are a handful of features that I didn't actually spend a lot of time using. One of them being that you can take pre-existing content, whether it be images like you saw me use, but also audio um from voiceovers

or different things to create brand new content and stories if that's what you want to do. Not something that I would personally use, so I didn't get too far into that, but just something worth noting that it is there if you wanted to use that. I think there are a ton of

use that. I think there are a ton of different use cases for this tool. Um,

if you're creating content that's in the education space, especially for younger kids in elementary school age, I think the cartoon kind of Pixar vibe options that they have for animations are by far

the best that I've been able to use for this price point, hands down. If you're

doing any type of editorial stuff where you're doing commentaries on events or things that are happening, this is a great tool to use for that. And also, if you're just doing general explainer videos, whether it be for a website or a blog or an email list, I think you can

use this tool very easily to be able to pump out pretty high quality content with a very low uplift. I do still wish there was some sort of option for me to be able to put a time parameter on the

story that was coming out. I am never going to actually need a 4 to 5 minute story where I'm explaining something in great detail. Even though I did try to

great detail. Even though I did try to put a duration into the prompt that I had given the tool, but it didn't really work the way that I wanted it to. But

either way, I can get around that by just animating the scenes that I want to use and downloading those. So, if you're using it for B-roll in that way, it's a great tool as well. And then the last thing I wanted to mention are the different tier options. And if you go to

appsumo.com, you'll see that there's three different tier options. And if I'm being honest, I got tier three and I ripped through those 8,000 credits per month pretty quickly. Granted, I was doing a little bit more than I would

probably in a real case scenario just to showcase the tool a little bit, but still move through the credits pretty quickly. Tier one at 1,700 credits for

quickly. Tier one at 1,700 credits for me not going to work out. If you're just doing image generation and maybe some really low-level just the stock image type videos as opposed to animating each one of the scenes, you might be able to

get by on that. But my recommendation would be at minimum tier 2 is where I would start and then I would go up from there. So do it that way what you will.

there. So do it that way what you will.
