In this video, we'll be setting up Open Claw's built-in web search tool, allowing the agent access to the internet using the Brave search API.
We'll walk through enabling the browser search features, fixing common Abuntu issues, and testing that the Open Claw can return real web results securely from the cloud. Let's get started. On
the previous video, we set up OpenClaw on a AWS EC2 instance, connected it to Open AI, connected it to Discord. So,
you should have a bot functioning at this time. I'm going to demo what
this time. I'm going to demo what happens when I request the bot to search for something. So, I'm going to ping my
for something. So, I'm going to ping my bot. So, I'm going to tell the bot to do
bot. So, I'm going to tell the bot to do a live search for the best pizza places in Raleigh. And we get this message that
in Raleigh. And we get this message that says, I can't run a live search right now because Brave search API key isn't configured in this environment. So,
let's go get our Brave Search API key.
All right. So to get the API key, we're going to look at the open claw document here. And it tells you about Brave
here. And it tells you about Brave Search, how to set it up. Says the first thing to do is to get an API key. And so
we're going to go to this link right here, the brave.com search-.
When you get to this page, you're going to have to sign up. I'm already signed up. So it takes me to my dashboard. And
up. So it takes me to my dashboard. And
then on the left over here, you can see API keys. So I'm going to click on API
API keys. So I'm going to click on API keys. And now it's going to tell you
keys. And now it's going to tell you that I'm not subscribed to a plan.
plans. So, we're going to have to click on see plans. And luckily, they have a free tier. This free tier will give you
free tier. This free tier will give you one request per second, 2,000 requests per month. So, I'm going to go ahead and
per month. So, I'm going to go ahead and subscribe to this free tier. And then
after I've subscribed to it, you can see here now it says subscribed. I'm going
head back to API key and I'm going to add an API key. Give it a name, free subscription. Add. And then I can view
subscription. Add. And then I can view it here and I'm going to copy it. All
right. Looking back at the documentation for the built-in tools, the web tools, you can see about getting the Bravy API key, and it's telling you where to set up the key. This is the recommended
method. We're just going to run this
method. We're just going to run this open claw configure section web. So,
let's go to our terminal, SSH into our EC2 instance, and run this command. So,
I'm in my terminal, and I'm going to CD to the location of my PM key, and then I'm going to run my SSH command to get into my EC2 instance. Now that we're logged into our instance, I'm going to
go ahead and run that open claw command.
This is for my local machine. Enable
search tool. Yes. Brave API key.
Enable web fetch. And it's configured.
Let's head back to our bot. See if we can run the same question about searching for local pizza joints and see if it works. All right. So, I'm back on Discord with my bot. And I'm going to
ask it the same question. So, I'm going to ping the bot. I'm going to ask it to find me the best pizza place in Raleigh.
And it took a minute, but it is providing me with links and images to the best pizza places in Raleigh. So,
previously we got the error saying Brave API key wasn't working. So, obviously,
it is working. It's getting me links.
Um, this looks good. This looks good.
Thanks for watching this video. Please
give me a like. Give me a subscribe. If
you have any questions, any issues, uh, leave me a comment. If you have any other tools you want me to demo on how to set up, same thing. Leave me a comment and I'll be able to set that up on a followalong video. Thanks for
watching.
