welcome to the paper callers show brought to you by ringba what's up everybody this is Adam Young here and we're back with another episode of the paper caller show and
today I want to talk to you about how to present yourself in business I know that may seem a little silly uh I don't think enough people talk about it but there
was a time in my life when I wasn't good at presenting myself in business in fact I went to a mastermind in San Diego that my good friend Jason aaff was holding
he's the CEO and founder of a Ford one of the oldest affiliate networks and a guy got up on stage and he worked for a major brand and he said to everybody you
know all of you guys in here make more money than me but I wouldn't do business with any of you because none of you know how to present yourselves and that
really stuck with me and I realized that I did not know how to present myself and I thought I was being cool on the internet but in reality the way you conduct yourself on the internet
actually tells people whether or not they want to do business with you it's like a digital first impression and so where do you start the most important
place to start is getting yourself an actual domain name for your business that or even for your own personal brand that is not a Gmail address
or even worse uh Yahoo or Hotmail address um I think it's so important that you email people from your own domain name it shows that if you have a
business that you're serious about it if you have a personal brand that you take it seriously and then the website that's associated with that domain needs to be
complete all the links need to work all the imagery needs to load it should be pleasing to the eye it should work on desktop it should work on mobile it
should have terms and conditions it should have a privacy policy if you're a business it should have well-written content on it even if it's short it
should have a form that works to contact you if you're a business you should list your phone number that's the number one uh source of trust from a consumer is if a business has a phone number on a
website by the way and even list your address I think the reality is when you present yourself on the internet you want people to realize very quickly that
you're a legitimate business or a serious person that takes your reputation seriously because if that's the first impression people will be willing to at least communicate with you
on and talk to you and see if there's an opportunity to do business with you if you do not have that type of thing in order people are going to judge you
immediately by how you present yourself on the internet if you have uh you know like some random email address at gmail
or Yahoo and no website and no domain name and you say to somebody hey I want to do business with you they're going to assume that you're going to disappear because you're not presenting yourself
well you're not building trust with them when you ask them to do business and a lot of people in the digital marketing space think that they should run a quiet
business that doesn't have a presence and that they can build a really amazing business that way and the reality is you can make money that way and you can grow a
business that way but nine times out of 10 when you reach out to people they're not going to trust your message and so you're just putting up walls and making
it way harder on yourself to grow your business if you're somebody that's an account manager or doing business development in an industry that that makes this even more important if you're
reaching out to Publishers or buyers or Partners or advertisers or whatever it may be and you're not presenting yourself well they're likely going to
ignore your email and so what I like to do is I like to make sure that all my social media profiles have really clear head shots that show who I am and
updated ones I'm not trying to catfish anybody you know you can have a great head shot taken and post it all over the place and it should be one that is
recent and current because if a company is doing their due diligence they're going to ask you to get on a video call a zoom a Skype something where they can see your face and make sure you are who you say you are because there's a lot of
fraud on the internet and if you're cold calling people on the internet they're going to want to verify who you are right and so a video call generally
happens and if your photo matches who you look like today not 20 years ago it establishes trust right if the first
thing like let's say I'm going out and I'm dating someone and they show me some pictures and then I meet them in person and they look entirely different than
their photos I feel deceived the moment I meet them and that could be a conscious deception or a subconscious deception and so that's why it's important to make sure that your social
media profiles that your telegram or your Skype profiles your images on all of them are current are professional and they actually look like you so when people meet you whether it's over Zoom
or in person they understand that you're presenting yourself as you actually are and it's a really powerful message and a really great first impression when you do that so I highly recommend that you
invest in a professional headshot and that you put that headshot on your social media and on your website and so I think that when people research a
company they're going to look you up uh on your website and they're going to want to know who runs that website and when you put yourself on the website and you put yourself out there you're saying hey this is who I am I'm not going
anywhere I'm willing to risk my actual reputation on whatever I say to you because I'm showing you my face I'm showing you who I am and that builds a
lot of trust and I know it's a really simple thing but it might surprise you how many people don't take this seriously when they're presenting themselves now if that same person is vetting someone they're going to do
business with they're looking at all these signs but sometimes we don't realize that we're presenting ourselves in a poor way so we really want to review what we're doing and make sure that it's good also on your social media
profiles you should put a phone number you should put an email address you should make sure that your your uh your contact methods are updated and work and
it's really easy to do that you can even put your own custom voicemail or ivr on a phone number or something like that but if someone reaches out to you whether it be through the social media
or through the phone or through email those things need to work and I cannot tell you how many times I run into contact forms that don't work and email addresses and phone numbers that don't
work in fact on the ringba exchange when we allow a new partner onto the exchange whether it's the buyer or the cell side we actually call and email all of their
public phone numbers on all of their social media channels we test all of their contact forms and all of their websites and if those phone numbers email addresses or contact forms don't
work we suspend their application and we communicate with them and we make them go back and we make them update that information so that it works because the
reality is if you're unwilling to communicate with people when they reach out to you you're unwilling to put your contact information out publicly you're saying that hey you know I don't really
want people following up with me and that tells me that if there's an issue you're not going to take my phone call and that's not what I want right like I think issues happen in business we
should expect them and if an issue happens I want to work with people that are willing to communicate and collaborate with me to solve issues those people become long-term business
partners and I can grow with them because I'm available if there's a problem people can reach me very easily on social media all my contact information is out there myself phone is
out there you reach me on Skype you can reach me on telegram I answer my DMs I answer my LinkedIn um I answer and actually read my email and so if there's
an issue someone can reach out to me and customers do customers reach out to me for things all the time I always answer whether the answer is yes no or otherwise I always reply and I think
having your information current and out there and actually replying to people shows a level of trust that a lot of people are not willing to give and that's why whenever I reach out to
somebody people know my reputation they're willing to communicate with me which allows me to open most doors when I want them and that's because I've
taken the time to properly present myself on the internet the same goes at in-person
events I think a lot of Affiliates and I'm a victim of this I have perpetuated it a lot of
Affiliates have an e that goes with them and so they go to a trade show and they don't want to dress professionally and they want to do what they think is cool
and I respect that because you know what you work hard you generate a lot of business for people and you want uh you
want to do you and I get that but the reality is as you grow a business and you want to hire people and you want to work with bigger companies you're going to need to present yourself differently
you're going to need to take yourself more seriously because people are going to look and say does that person take themsel seriously do they take their brand seriously do they carry themsel in
such a way that shows that they're a serious person and the results you get from that are much better 100% of the time and so when you see me at a trade
show you're going to see me wearing a ring but brand probably in something business casual sometimes a suit who knows and I'm going to conduct myself like a professional like someone that
works at a Fortune 500 company because I want to do business with Fortune 500 companies I am not concerned about showing off I am concerned about showing
a level of trust to my customers and potential customers and business partners that they know that like hey Adam is consistent Adam is on time Adam presents himself well Adam takes himself
seriously which means he's going to represent me seriously he's going to take me seriously he's going to answer my phone call if I have an issue and that's the level of trust you want to
present to your audience because they're then going to want to grow with you and in an industry that's highly competitive if there are two people that are
generating results and One conducts themsel in a really professional way and the other one not so much people are going to go do business with the person that conducts thems in the more
professional way because they trust them and they trust that if they have an issue or they want to grow that this person will take it seriously and so if
you're new to the industry or you're not new to the industry I recommend that you wear a suit jacket to trade shows I I talk about this in my master class and I think it's awesome that people actually show up to trade shows wearing suits and
they're like Adam I listen to your master class I wore a suit and you know it's I I giggle when I hear it but the reality is if you walk up to somebody at a trade show in a suit and you simply
say hey I'm new to the industry I'm driving some phone calls I'd like to do business with you my name is whatever uh people judge you immediately by how you present yourself and they say wow this
person presents themsel well I want to talk to them now if you show up to a trade show wearing a bathrobe which I have done before and I do not recommend you do we all make mistakes when we're
21 years old I'm asking for forgiveness okay um people do not take you seriously and I was like what why are not people not taking me seriously I drive so much traffic I was driving eight figures a
year in Revenue as an affiliate for people and um I was like I'm going to do whatever I want I'm going to try and be cool and different and get attention or whatever and I got attention but it
wasn't from the people I actually wanted to do business with the CEOs of the biggest companies in the industry at that time that I wanted to meet did not want to meet with me wearing a bathrobe
at a trade show because they were all in suits right they were all representing their brand well and I couldn't I couldn't honestly figure out what the problem was
because I thought that I was marketing and in marketing we always try and do something different I was being different but I wasn't taking myself seriously and so I was being a great
marketer but I was being a bad business person and so um when you present yourself well and you present yourself well online and in person and you take
yourself seriously you're going to be able to attract much more higher quality Partners you're going to be able to get opportunities that you previously wouldn't get you are going to be able to
recruit higher quality talent to your team um it really really makes the difference and I want to touch on the recruiting thing real quick as you grow your business you're going to want to
recruit people and those people are going to make or break the outcome of your future business there's no question about that and so recruiting highquality Talent is the key to success now when
you ask someone to come on your team you are asking that person to trust you with their livelihood and the livelihood of
their family and so to boil that down to simple terms when you extend someone a job offer you are saying I will be responsible for feeding you and feeding
your family please trust me and so if you do not take yourself seriously or present yourself well you'll get people who will work for you but you will not
get the super highquality a player talent that will bring a 10x return to your business if you do not present yourself well because those people have unlimited options and they will not take
the risk on somebody who doesn't have their entire Persona in order they will not take a risk on somebody that they feel doesn't take themselves seriously and so you can change your brand image
very easily you can change your personal image very easily easily and you can start to conduct yourself in a really professional way really really easily and I promise you you will get more
