The conveyor belt is moving around and taking people's suitcases. What time is it? H. Suitcase time.

it? H. Suitcase time.

Taxi stand. This is a sign for the taxis. The taxi stand is a place where

taxis. The taxi stand is a place where you wait for your taxi. And now in Singapore, they use grab taxi, just like

in Vietnam. So, I'm going to find the

in Vietnam. So, I'm going to find the taxi stand and order my grab.

Okay, the taxi is here. I'm putting my suitcase in the car boot.

>> Thank you.

>> Oh my good.

We all need someone that can make us believe.

There he is.

>> Hello, mate.

>> Thank you, man.

>> Well, hello guys. Look who we have here.

Hello. It's Jared. Um, for some context, for those who don't know, Jared and I have been friends for 26 years now.

Since we were 4 years old. And yeah,

what a ride. Yes.

>> Many ups and downs.

>> Many ups and downs. Mostly ups. Yeah. A

few downs. Um, we've been having a catch up, which is the next word. A catch up is when you haven't seen somebody in a long time, and you have a conversation and see what's been going on in their

lives. Now, the plan is to go get some

lives. Now, the plan is to go get some food because I've been flying for a while. I'm hungry. So, we're going to go

while. I'm hungry. So, we're going to go to a hawker center. We have arrived.

Maxwell Food Center. It's cool.

Okay. And we call this a stall. There

are two people in red cooking some food.

>> All right. Let's find a seat.

>> We found a table and um yeah, we're about to toast to good friends in Singapore.

>> Cheers. Where are they?

>> I don't know. Somewhere around here.

>> Lovely.

>> That is good. Cheers, man. So, we are in a hawker center. And in this hawker center, there are lots of different stalls. A stall is like a small shop

stalls. A stall is like a small shop that sells different types of food.

>> Oh, and the beeper is beeping. Are you

going to go get that?

>> I'll go get that.

>> All right. See you soon. Jared's going

to come back with some food. So, I'll

see you in 3 2 1.

>> Chopsticks and dumplings. So, this is a carrot cake. Carrot cake is not normal

carrot cake. Carrot cake is not normal carrot cake. No, carrot cake for us

carrot cake. No, carrot cake for us would be a sweet baked good.

>> I'm really into this.

>> Yeah.

>> Okay, there's a good word. If you really like something, you're into it. Say, I'm

into it.

>> I'm into this. I really like it.

>> Again, I'm not really doing very well for selling.

>> This is an escalator and we are going down the escalator.

>> Hello, YouTube.

>> Hello, YouTube.

>> I love YouTube.

>> We're on our way to the Where are we going Jared?

>> Gardens by the Bay. Anyway, we're going on the metro now. On the metro. You can

also call it an underground or a subway.

What do they call it in London?

>> Uh underground.

>> The underground. London. Underground.

>> Cheers.

>> This is us.

>> This is us.

>> Okay.

>> Me and Jared are having a conversation on the metro. On the left, there is a mother with a push chair. In the middle, there is a muscular man with a vest. And

on the right, there is a guy looking at my camera.

I'm tapping my card and walking through the barriers.

All right, we've arrived at the Gardens by the Bay, and these are spectacular.

And we're right here in time for a light show. Up there you have giant structures

show. Up there you have giant structures with plants crawling up them. And there

is a bridge with a neon blue light underneath it. And very soon there's

underneath it. And very soon there's going to be a light show. It's nice and cool as well. There's a breeze.

>> That's a good word for you guys. A

breeze. A light wind. It's called a breeze.

And that breeze is nice. So we need to go find a seat and get ready to watch this light show.

So in this environment you can see giant structures that look like trees and the lights are flashing in time with the music. There are lots of people gathered

music. There are lots of people gathered around and we call this crowd. This area

is crowded.

Everyone is clapping or applauding the spectacular light show.

>> So, now we're going to go to the top of MBS, which is a large building up there.

And we're navigating our way through a crowd. Busy crowd. You can say it's very

crowd. Busy crowd. You can say it's very hectic. It's very busy here.

hectic. It's very busy here.

>> Okay, now we're in the MBS, Marina Bay Sands Hotel. And this is massive.

Sands Hotel. And this is massive.

>> This is just one of the pillars. There's

three of these.

>> Three of these.

>> Holy moly.

You come here often?

We just arrived on the rooftop and uh check this view out.

>> Madness. We are on the 57th floor. Let's

get a cocktail. This is called the bar.

We are looking at the menu. And now

Jared is talking to the bartender.

>> All right. Cheers, Jared.

Cheers amigo.

>> And cheers to you behind the screen.

I'll see you tomorrow in day two.

Good morning, guys. I'm standing on Jared's balcony and enjoying my morning

cuper.

A cuper is a cup of tea and it's a very British thing to drink on a morning. And

the plan for today is to take a walk.

We're going to get some breakfast and then we're gonna go to the botanical gardens and Jared's gonna show me more of Singapore. So, I'm excited for the

of Singapore. So, I'm excited for the day ahead. I'm going to try film as much

day ahead. I'm going to try film as much as I can and bring you guys along, teach you some English, and have fun. One

word, well, two words actually. The

first one is I'm here on a balcony. And

a balcony is the outside part of the house that looks out onto the view. And

over there, this is a construction site.

You can see two cranes towering above and a construction site is where they are building a new building. For all my English learners

building. For all my English learners out there, if you want to become fluent, then check out the Sprout website. The

method is simple. You watch a video, you learn new vocabulary related to a topic like winter and snow in my newest

career skiing video. Then you speak with Ji to practice the vocabulary and use the words that you learned in the video.

Watch, learn, speak. It's as simple as that. And if you do want to become

that. And if you do want to become fluent in English, then Sprout is the way. We are walking to have breakfast.

way. We are walking to have breakfast.

And on the street, you can see a stop sign for cows to stop. Over there is some wall art or we can say a mural.

This is called a crossroads >> house.

>> Dog paw.

>> A paw print from a dog.

>> Good job.

>> A mat with two fat cats. Jared is

wearing a green shirt with an orange back.

Look at this tree, guys. Wow. What do

you think of that, Jared?

>> Mad.

>> Yeah, these trees are really cool. Their

branches and their limbs stretch out like veins in the human body or like roots in the ground. Create a really interesting pattern.

Very cool. I love the trees here. Feels

like Jungle Book. It does feel We're waiting in a queue to eat breakfast at Yakun Kaya Toast, a super famous Singapore place for kaya

toast, butter, and softboiled eggs over there, mate. And Jared is bringing me

there, mate. And Jared is bringing me here for the first time. I'm excited

because I'm trying a classic local Singaporean breakfast, and I'm curious if it tastes as good as everyone says.

The steam from the boiling eggs is rising.

The numbers in red tell you when your order is ready. Ours is coming now.

Jared is arriving with the coffees. Best

time of the day.

Lovely. Jared's got a uh a hot coffee.

I've got iced coffee.

Cheers.

Good.

>> The man with the food. This is toast.

Toasted bread and some uh wet and runny eggs.

Good word. Runny. They are wet and runny. Jared is pouring the soy sauce on

runny. Jared is pouring the soy sauce on the eggs. Can you put it on mine, too?

the eggs. Can you put it on mine, too?

>> Thanks. Nice one. All right, let's dig in. Jared is breaking breaking it in

in. Jared is breaking breaking it in half. And good words. It's a good verb.

half. And good words. It's a good verb.

Dipping it. I am

dipping the egg. And look at that. That

is an egg yolk. Excellent. So, this is really good. Um, you have these like

really good. Um, you have these like thin crispy toasts with butter and kaya spread inside. It's

like honey sweet thing. And you dip it in the eggs. You dip it in the yolk, in the runny eggs, and

It's sweet. It's salty. It's really

It's sweet. It's salty. It's really

good.

>> Unique breakfast.

>> There he is. We have just finished breakfast. Four bellies. And now we're

breakfast. Four bellies. And now we're going to go to the botanical gardens.

>> Let's go.

Can we go up here?

>> All right. Up to you, sir.

>> And we're going to take the metro, the metro.

>> Look at that. A chess board in the metro station. So, now we're getting an eye

station. So, now we're getting an eye juice, which is a orange juice in a vending machine. Freshly squeezed orange

vending machine. Freshly squeezed orange juice. And we are going to quench our

juice. And we are going to quench our thirst. To quench your thirst is to go

thirst. To quench your thirst is to go from thirsty to not thirsty.

the so far cup of orange juice in my hand.

>> There we go. Coming out the metro.

J's putting on the sunglasses. It's a

bit bright.

Let's go see some gardens. Right guys,

we are on a quest, a mission to find a monitor lizard, which is like a Komodo dragon but without the poisonous tongue.

And apparently there are monitor lizards here.

>> I hope so. We will find them by hook up by crook. Let's go find them. All right,

by crook. Let's go find them. All right,

first spot of the wildlife. We have a rooster on the floor.

So, we are in the botanical gardens and bot is the word for the study of plants.

And in here, we are surrounded by foliage or greenery.

And we're looking for the orchids.

An orchid is a type of plant. This type

of plant This is an orchid and this is a fountain. There is a man watering the plants. Of course, the most

attractive thing in Oh, not you. In the

botanical gardens is a traffic cone and a hose pipe. Yes. Look how beautiful this is. And Jared just said a good word

this is. And Jared just said a good word there. What did you say, Jared?

there. What did you say, Jared?

>> Stunning.

>> Stunning. Stunning can describe a beautiful view, nice scenery, or a fit person.

I just said a fit person. If someone is fit in British slang, it means they are attractive. A man or a woman could be

attractive. A man or a woman could be fit. Different to physically fit. It

fit. Different to physically fit. It

might be used in a sentence such as he's well fit.

>> He's well fit. She's well fit.

>> Or she's well fit.

>> Fit equals attractive. Hot. So, we are wandering, which means we're walking gently, casually with no real aim of any destination.

>> A good spot, >> right, guys? In this little pond here, we have some turtles.

You can just see them on the left hand side there. It's uh you can see the

side there. It's uh you can see the turtle shell. And everyone gets this

turtle shell. And everyone gets this wrong, even natives, but a tortoise is the one that walks on land, a tortoise.

And a turtle is the one that swims in the water. Tortoise walks on land.

the water. Tortoise walks on land.

Turtle swims in the water. Me and Jared have just been devising a way for you to remember a tortoise on land. And we came up with a tortoise likes to walk us. And

a turtle is like Squirtle. If you've

seen Pokémon, Squirtle swims in the water.

>> Squirtle. Squirtle.

>> It's not very good, is it? But a

tortoise likes to walk us. one way.

So, we are here in the botanical gardens looking at the beautiful scenery, the grass, the trees, the pond, the water, the birds, the frogs, the butterflies,

and the dragonflies.

And it's really rather beautiful.

So, right now, Jared is looking at the map to find out where we are. Did you find it out?

>> This way.

>> This way.

>> Come with me. So, we're walking along this path and there are butterflies, but it's hard to capture them because hey,

they keep flying everywhere.

All right, guys. We are in the foliage garden. Foliage is the term for plant

garden. Foliage is the term for plant leaves collectively. Lots of leaves.

leaves collectively. Lots of leaves.

That looks like something from Jurassic Park. Look at these trees. They look

Park. Look at these trees. They look

ancient.

It's mad that that's well older than us.

>> They're at least 10 years old.

>> We are in a UNESCO World Heritage site.

>> Cool.

>> J doing his wood pigeon.

>> That's good.

These plants to our left are called ferns.

A palm leaf.

Look at the roots on this tree.

Instead of growing into the ground, they are kind of sprawled out like a spider's legs. Very cool. And look at this tree.

legs. Very cool. And look at this tree.

The roots are growing down from the trunk. Is the trunk. And the roots are

trunk. Is the trunk. And the roots are growing down into the ground. This is a beautiful world, guys. Not pineapple.

Plethora. Plethora means there are lots of something. They are abundant.

of something. They are abundant.

>> Trying to give the people the slang term of a plethora.

clothes.

So, you can see the turtle, guys.

Remember the turtle is the one that swims in the water.

Tortoise likes to walk us. And on the turtle is a hard shell. The same shell that you find on an egg or a snail.

It's quite hot, sweating. It's humid.

The air is wet.

This is a lake or a big pond.

So, the weather is very hot. And when

it's hot and wet together, we say it's humid, but there is a breeze. And that

breeze is really nice. A breeze is a light wind. And that's refreshing. Look

light wind. And that's refreshing. Look

at these guys. These are giant lily pads.

And people have thrown coins onto the lily pads.

Nice. Make a wish. I

>> already have.

>> What do you wish for?

>> For you to fall in.

>> Good. This is really cool. So, here is a giant pond with lily pads on. And that

is a stage.

Wow, this is gorgeous in here. Good

work. You hear guys? Trickling. The

water is trickling down the stream.

We have some more orchids. And

look at this. This

green stuff on the rocks is called moss.

This is moss. Two good words, guys. This

is spongy. The texture is soft like a sponge cake. These leaves are spiky.

sponge cake. These leaves are spiky.

They are sharp and pointy. Spongy.

Spiky. These orchids are beautiful.

All right, guys. We just found a monitor

right, guys. We just found a monitor lizard. Check this out.

lizard. Check this out.

We did it, guys. We found a monitor lizard.

So, look at how it crawls. And it's got a forked tongue.

And the monitor lizard is uh crawling across the grass.

He's sticking his tongue out. And I

think that's to sense his environment.

We just left the botanical gardens and chilled out, had a rest. Now we're going to head out for some drinks and some food.

We are crossing the road and there are people passing on our left.

So, we have just arrived at the famous raffles and these houses are very fancy.

There's the next word, fancy. This is a large hotel and the front of the building is lit up with warm light. This

is a courtyard with a fountain in the background.

Jared is dishing up the food.

>> We have some sweet breads, which is noodles with stir-fried seafood, >> some side salad, >> sweet chili sauce, vegetable spring

rolls, and a beef randen, which is kind of curry. How's it taste?

of curry. How's it taste?

>> Bloody lovely.

>> Yeah, it's bloody lovely.

>> Dinner was bloody lovely. Now we're

walking through a tunnel. There are red lights on either side of the tunnel and funky artwork painted on the walls.

Right now we're heading to an arcade bar.

We are in an arcade bar and I am drinking a pint. Cheers.

The neon lights are flashing on the ceiling. This is the bar where the

ceiling. This is the bar where the bartenders make your drinks.

This is called a joystick.

And this is a coin slot where you insert your coins into.

The buttons are flashing. It's time to play. This game is called Master Sniper.

play. This game is called Master Sniper.

A sniper rifle is a gun that can shoot bullets from a long range or shoot Jared from a short range. This is a basketball game. You throw the basketballs into the

game. You throw the basketballs into the hoop.

Now we're playing darts. I am throwing the dart at the dart board.

I'm taking the darts out of the dart board and handing them to Jared. It's his

turn.

We want a fish. The night has been a success.

We are here at the famous Mer Lion in Singapore, which is a combination of a lion and a fish together. Which leads me onto the final word of the day, which is a hybrid. A hybrid is a combination of

a hybrid. A hybrid is a combination of two things. Thank you for watching, and
