let me guess you went to the climbing gym the other day and you knew from the first set of jugs that it was love at first sight in this video you're going to learn 10 hacks how to take your climbing to that next level as fast as
possible did you know that 80% of beginner climbers make the same mistakes and we don't want you to be that climber and make sure to stick around all the way until the end for my favorite hack bonus hack number 11 for more tips and
tricks that have helped me climb elk Capon over 20 times like comment and subscribe hack number one I vividly remember walking into the gym
for my first time and hearing all this talk about slopers and pinches and underlings and wondering what the hell are these guys talking about and being
so confused hit me with the sloper go jug pinch undercling pocket crimp hack number
two so rock climbing is all about getting a as strong as possible so I can pull myself up the wall right actually climbing is all about driving with your
legs as much as possible that's amazing hack number three yeah
buddy nice come on yeah yeah come on come on nice dude good job hey you're making great
progress don't worry about falling it's just part of the process and really it's the only way we get better as climbers hack number four picking the right size shoes will
have the biggest impact to climbing early on don't make the same mistake that I did I wore shoes that were a full size too big for me for two full years
and because of that I had the worst footwork so you want to start going at least one size down from your street shoe all right so I wear an 11 in street
shoe hey Reggie can you throw me a size six okay the pros always wear tight shoes right that probably isn't going to work
really bro all right Reggie throw me a size 10 okay let's give it a try you hear that mhm yeah that's the sound of a good fit so how should it
feel that's a great question when we first start climbing our feet aren't ready to take a highlevel advanced fit
but the shoe should always be snug even for beginners so when you go to buy your first pair of climbing shoes don't be afraid to try on one two three even 10
pairs of shoes once I went to the backcountry outlet store and tried on 25 pairs in one sitting but guess what I found the pair that fits me absolutely
perfect and immediately started climbing harder hack number five I should be training right not exactly I need a good hangboard routine
right definitely not so campusing then no campus well I should be definitely deadlifting then right please don't since climbing is such a high skill
sport actually just doing as much climbing as you possibly can is the best way to improve hack number six
brt that was an amazing effort but what I want you to do in the future is make a plan before you try any route and one of the best ways to do that is just try to
figure out the first three moves of any route before you make your first attempt the best place to start is just figure out the hands climbers we call this the
beta dance here here got it there there okay step two what what are you going to do with your feet I think I'll start on the low one which foot on the low one
left okay and then I'll try to put both feet on this one and this one okay left and right as I go to this one and then
try to just jump to that okay that's awesome I love that you have a plan sweep nice so this is how we make a plan the plan might not be perfect but if you
don't have a plan there's nothing to execute on and it really really helps you to identify the best holds where the
Crux might be the footholds hack number seven that L kind of hard do you think that you were breathing while you were climbing no I I took a big breath at the
beginning and then I tried to climb to the top that's what it looked like can I give you one of my favorite hacks yeah this time when you climb every time you hit a hold you're going going to take a
breath so the hold the new hand hold is going to be the cue to take a breath okay cool oh so much easier this does have you climbing a little bit slower but
it's a great way to incorporate some nice slow climbing into your warm-ups and get in touch with your breath because your breath is the best way to
relax your nervous system so you can climb your best hack number eight man you're looking strong but how did that feel felt really hard yeah can I
give you a little tip that I learned years ago absolutely anything so people constantly told me when I first started climbing to keep my arms as straight as
possible but it never seemed to work so try to keep your upper arm as straight as possible and it's okay if you bend the lower arm but every time you hit a
new hold try to straighten out that upper arm I'll give it a try nice dude how'd that feel way better hack number nine all my early many of my
early jobs are Paving Drive okay okay I've seen enough I've seen enough come on down what Reggie hit me this is key and but it's a very common mistake for beginners so don't
feel bad but when we put our foot on the foothold just enough is enough and the reason for that is we can get more pressure into a smaller space and
getting pressure onto our toes is key so you had your whole shoe on the hold makes sense I get it but if you want to
get maximal pressure onto that foothold you'll put just the amount of toe that you need that allows you to really be
connected with the foothold be precise and you'll be more likely to drive through the legs take it first a spin yep and just enough is
enough perfect put your entire foot on the holds feel your balance now the wall feels pretty steep right feels kind of vertical I feel like I can't really move now just the toes now do you feel like
you could almost go handsfree yeah perfect hack number 10
okay come on you got it dude come on come on you got it come on you got it come
on yeah buddy what the heck you got it this time you got it this time come on what the heck great efforts but why
do you think you failed I mean I just I think I just got to keep doing this one move at the top and I'll and I'll get it eventually that might be the case but a
common mistake beginners make is not resting enough between goes do you think you were like rested between each attempt uh no no I no I just figured if
I just do this one move enough times I can get it yeah which is probably the case but he just might need a few minutes in between each attempt so I tell you what put yourself on a timer
take a 3 minute break and then we'll try it again okay I'm not going to lie that 3 minutes felt like an eternity yeah dude nice br
yep that works and now for the most important hack of all is to have fun because the best climber is the one having the most fun
