I'm going to grab a second one here.
Okay. Yeah, way to start my day.
Ready to go. It feels like it's just It's like jet fuel, you know? Just that
water coming down nice and cold. And
yeah, I like to have my water [music] in the morning. And then of course, I'll
the morning. And then of course, I'll have, you know, something hot later on.
But this gets me going, wakes me right up. And then I've got my little tea set
up. And then I've got my little tea set over here that Marilyn gave me when we went to the expo. So, got my cold water, got my hot tea for later. So, yeah,
everything's all set in my craft room and it's ready to go. So, absolutely
love it.
[snorts] Okay.
I think, you know, today is kind of a little bit of a treat. So, we're going to have a lot of fun doing something new today. But before we get to that, we
today. But before we get to that, we better get our snacks. Yeah, am I seeing any uh any orders coming through? I see
Oh, yeah. Uh coquito coffee. This Yeah.
[laughter] We've got cheer We've got coffee. Lots
Oh gosh. Lots of request for coffee going on. That's good. We've already got
going on. That's good. We've already got our toast for that. So, let's get our orders in for our snacks. Let's go ahead and get that in. Guys, go ahead and put your orders in. It's all totally free,
remember. And they're calorie free, too.

We've got your snacks. We've got your drinks. I hope you're in your cozy spot
drinks. I hope you're in your cozy spot and you're ready to go because we are just going to go full steam today. Okay?
All right. Lisa Lilly found me. Oh, Lisa
Lilly found you already? Wow, that was pretty fast.
[laughter] Okay. Yeah, if you notice, we've got Mr.
Okay. Yeah, if you notice, we've got Mr. H over here. You know, he is He is off to my shoulder over here. And he's just kind of watching you guys. So, you know,
he's He's looking at you and he's watching over what I'm doing here. So,
we've got to behave just a little bit, right?
So, um on Sunday, if you were able to catch Mr. H, he did go live and shared some really great travel tips. So, you
know, yeah, it was pretty good. And um
he shared some of uh the adventures that we had when we went. So, it was a lot of fun. Yeah, we we kind of ping-ponged all
fun. Yeah, we we kind of ping-ponged all over the place. I think he shared the little map that we had that was, you know, going all over the place and showing the the routes um and gave a couple of tips of where you can save
some money if you're doing some traveling cuz that's really um expensive now. And you can really find
expensive now. And you can really find some great deals out there. So, I hope you guys enjoyed that. He did do it on the live. Um and so, if you were able to
the live. Um and so, if you were able to watch on Sunday, you did catch the live.
Now that video has moved over to our members-only section. So, they're able
members-only section. So, they're able to watch the replays um and see that.
So, if you're not a member, you're not going to be able to see it um unless you are a member cuz it it was only for everyone only during the live. And now
that's kind of moved over to the member section so they can watch the replays if they have it available in their little vault of all kinds of videos, okay?
Awesome. All right, yeah. Good morning,
Sherry and Jessica. Good morning. All
righty, so let's get started now. So,
today we can start our Farm Yard Friends. And this is just, you know, a
Friends. And this is just, you know, a brand new project for me. It's like a little birthday present, right? Full of
excitement and endless possibilities that you can have in this quilt. It's an
absolutely adorable quilt. It is a Lori Holt quilt. Um and here it is here.
Holt quilt. Um and here it is here.
It is called Farm Yard Friends. And I
can tell you as I went through the instructions a little bit more detailed, I wouldn't really call this a beginner-friendly quilt. This is a
beginner-friendly quilt. This is a little bit more of an advanced beginner intermediate.
And it's it's kind of um not that it's complex, but it is tricky and you do have to hit a lot of points. So, it's
something that you really have to take your time with. So, I'm not going to do this one like I do any of my other quilts where we, you know, set aside like a full block a week until we do it
from start to finish. We're going to do this in little stages. Now, this
particular quilt is made up of a ton of different blocks and it all starts up on the top over on this section here. We
are going to be starting with this star block right here. And then it kind of moves over to the rooster and then you kind of work your way down. So, it's
kind of like left, right, left, right, left, right and that's how you move your way down. And then you have a whole
way down. And then you have a whole section over here that you have to complete. So, some people will be doing
complete. So, some people will be doing these along with me and some will not.
So, I will do this kind of in stages.
We'll do one block, then we'll switch over to a different type of project or a different quilt and then I'll come back.
Because there is tons of cutting going on in this particular uh quilt, but it's also because I am mixing up different
fabrics. So,
fabrics. So, I don't have the Lori Holt kit, although you can purchase it. Links are below if you guys are interested in purchasing
the quilt kit and that's all the Lori Holt fabric. I do have a large amount of
Holt fabric. I do have a large amount of it, but not 100% all of it. So, what I'm going to do is mix and match because I
do have a lot of layer cakes and I have um uh layer cake and a jolly bar of the um
Farmhouse Friends. This is for the
Farmhouse Friends. This is for the Farmer's Daughter um collection that goes with this quilt. So, I'm going to use as much as of it as I can, but
there's going to be certain pieces where I need a little bit more than just a layer cake or a um jolly bar. So, in that instance, I'm
jolly bar. So, in that instance, I'm going to be using some of the fabric that I purchased from Connecting Threads when they had that huge sale where you
can get fabric stacks. And I tried to um kind of pick out fabrics that resemble the Lori Holt look. So, we're
going to see how all of that turns out as I'm mixing and matching. So, I will try to stick to it as much as I can on the Lori Holt collection, but wherever I
cannot, I'm going to be substituting some fabric. So, little bit of that
some fabric. So, little bit of that going on. So, little coordination on the
going on. So, little coordination on the back end in terms of matching colors and what I want the layout to look like. But
I'm also going to have um a lot of cutting to do in between. So, because
it's a lot of cutting, um when you look at it, the very first block, which is called the Farmhouse, uh I'm sorry, it's called the Homestead Farm Star block. It
will look like this.
So, this is what the first block will look like and you can see there are tons of points going on here, right? This is
not a block that is using any of the paper piecing pieces that come with it, right? There's another kit that you can
right? There's another kit that you can buy that kind of helps you along by allowing you to do half some half square triangles or things. It's the paper
piecing type thing that you can get from the Fat Quarter Shop. This particular
block is straight piecing 100%.
So, as you look at it here, there are a lot of points that you need to hit, right? You've got multiple layers here.
right? You've got multiple layers here.
It's almost like you can see a mini square, a medium size and then you've got, you know, your Carpenter Star block. But because there's so much going
block. But because there's so much going on, you've got your flying geese units here on each of those ends, you know, you're going to want to take this very,
very slow and try to hit each point. So,
we're going to see how we do on this one. Little bit nervous on how um this
one. Little bit nervous on how um this is going to come out, but we're going to try the best we can and see if I can go ahead and hit all of those all of those [clears throat] points. I did bring out
out some of my pins that I hope are going to help me. So, I did bring my fork pins out and these are the pins for when I start putting [clears throat] the pieces
together and that's going to help me out a little bit to keep everything nice and secure so it doesn't move around on me under the needle. But then I also have I
brought out my um long straight pins and these are all magic pins.
And this is just going to help me to kind of keep things together in between.
So, let's see how all of this works. I'm going These are the tools I'm
works. I'm going These are the tools I'm going to be using. Of course, I'm going to be using my little roller here as well. That's going to help me keep the
well. That's going to help me keep the seams nice and flat in between as I um do the different sections and I don't iron them, okay? So,
that's all the tools that I'll be using for this. And then we're going to make
for this. And then we're going to make this block. So, we're going to get
this block. So, we're going to get started with this today. Um cutting
instructions are pretty simple for the very first block. It's really not too bad, but as you move on to the second block, which is the rooster, you can see
here there's tons of cutting to do on there. So, we've really, really got to
there. So, we've really, really got to be careful with that. Uh Darla's asking, "Do you starch your fabrics in advance?"
I did, Darla. Uh actually
as I was in the expo, [laughter] when I was at the hotel, it was the perfect. I had brought stacks of fabric
perfect. I had brought stacks of fabric with me and um I kind of was showing my mom, you know, how we kind of prep for different quilts. And so, you know, I
different quilts. And so, you know, I brought all the stuff with me and I was able to kind of, you know, use the starch. I doused them and then um left
starch. I doused them and then um left them overnight. When they dried, then we
them overnight. When they dried, then we uh they had a big ironing board, so we just took that and we ironed them away.
And so, when I got home, all I had to do was start cutting cuz everything had already been starched. So, that's how I was able to do that. So, excited about
that and I'm ready to go. But yeah, I'm a starcher. I really do believe it does
a starcher. I really do believe it does help a lot because it does stiffen up the fabric and so it doesn't it won't be as floppy and move around so much on it,
you know? That's the whole idea is to
you know? That's the whole idea is to kind of stiffen it up to allow you to be able to make those points um and the fabric's not moving around as much, right? Okay.
right? Okay.
All right, so that's what we're working on today. And
also, I wanted to kind of just show you guys cuz we did this last week. This is
uh the K9 quilt that we did or quilt top. It's a K9
Quilt of Honor and I was able to finish piecing it together. So, let me just show you what it came out like and it's a pretty large one. So,
don't know how much you guys will be able to see all of it. So, let's just hold it up this way. Can you guys see that?
So, this is the finished top.
And you can see the beautiful German Shepherd right there.
And it's got that blue stripe to represent law enforcement, but I think she came out gorgeous and, you know, it's going to be great. I have to pick
out the borders and the backing and then I'm going to quilt it. And then we're going to be taking it over and I'll have to call around to see where we can take
it to.
Um but the idea is to kind of honor a canine out there and then um donate this over to the organization to honor that
um canine. So,
um canine. So, that was that and this is all done. This
was so, so easy to do. Oh my goodness, this was really, really simple to do.
So, it was a lot of fun doing that.
Yeah. And I I can probably see myself doing a couple more. Um as long as I can find the organization, that's going to be the hard part. Figuring out where
exactly um you can find the organization that, you know, will take the quilts.
But I'm sure I'll give them a call and figure out where and then go ahead and take it to them and then we'll do some pictures when we do that. So, yeah, it is beautiful. It's a wonderful project.
is beautiful. It's a wonderful project.
So, I really loved it. I'm keeping it in the little um project bag that they gave us till I get the backing and the border going on this. And then we're going to finish that one up. So, I'm excited
about that one. So, that one is kind of done off to the side and now we're ready for the next one. So, let me lift this up here.
And I am ready for my next board here that has all of the pieces
that we're going to need for this next block. So, this is everything that you
block. So, this is everything that you need. Um I have my creative grids ruler
need. Um I have my creative grids ruler that I'm using um to draw my diagonal lines cuz there's a few um steps on that. And I've done some of that already
that. And I've done some of that already to kind of save us some time. So,
everything here's all cut up and labeled. So, we've got that going here.
labeled. So, we've got that going here.
And so, let's just dive right into the book here and see what our first steps are.
I'm going to scoot this over to the side.
Okay, you know, as I keep opening and closing this pattern book, I almost kind of wish they had this on a spiral cuz it's I've opened and closed it so many times it's kind of already getting worn.
So, I'm being a little extra careful with it cuz yeah, it it's been opened and closed a lot and it will be a lot more until we get this done, right?
Okay, so the first instructions is telling you to grab your fabric C.
So, you're going to need one of Actually, you're going to need two of those because we're going to be doing some flying geese units. And so, I'm
going to grab two of my fabric C and I am going to grab one of my fabric A.
And I'll pull these out. So, fabric A and fabric C are not part of the Farmer's Daughter collection. These are
connecting threads um fabrics. And
that's what I'm going to be using as my background fabric and then as um my two here as the flying geese unit.
Um did I put the skateboard sand grip on the ruler? I did on my little ruler
the ruler? I did on my little ruler here. Yes, absolutely. Here it is. And
here. Yes, absolutely. Here it is. And
it's got that grippy stuff on here. So,
again, you put it underneath here with that grippy stuff and you can see you know, I can I can move it here this way, but once I put my pressure down
it's not moving.
So, that's that's what I really love about this grippy. And remember, you've got to get the transparent one because it makes it a little difficult to see, but you can see that my hand coming
through on that one.
Right? So, it's really nice that you know, you put it down here and yeah, it's not going anywhere.
But then you put your fabric underneath it and I can see it totally see it underneath here. And as I press down
underneath here. And as I press down here yeah.
Not moving.
Not moving on it. So, I think yeah, this grippy stuff is really going to work. I think it's really nice. Um
work. I think it's really nice. Um
Nancy, take it to Staples and they'll bind it for you. Oh, only cat costs you about $10. Really?
about $10. Really?
Okay, that's probably something I can do. I've done it on the manual, but I'm
do. I've done it on the manual, but I'm just a Yeah, I guess I could because I'm afraid that they will cut here to do the little holes for the binder.
And I'll probably lose a little bit of the side stuff here. I don't know. I'll have to
stuff here. I don't know. I'll have to see.
Yeah, I I probably should do that because yeah, it's getting a little worn out right?
But we'll see what we do with that.
Okay. Let's get back to the flying geese unit.
Oh, he's got Patches. Well, Patches is Patches is all good.
Oh, he's a bunny.
Patches is ready for Easter. Can you
believe Easter's coming already?
My goodness. Holidays are just flying by.
All right. So, very first step on your flying geese unit and I went ahead and did this so we didn't waste any time.
Um you want to go ahead and for each of these um C fabric units, you're want to go going to want to turn it on to its back side. So, you want the wrong side
back side. So, you want the wrong side of the fabric facing up, right? So,
we've got the right side of that fabric or the pretty side facing down. And
you're going to want to take your creative grids ruler and you will want to kind of align her up. Now, there's
different ways that you can do it. You
can just go across here and go corner to corner.
Right? Doing it this way. And that's
just having the ruler kind of sticking out here um and then just going all the way across, right? You can just eye it and
across, right? You can just eye it and do it that way. But um another good thing about creative grids is they have this little triangle on the end here.
Can you guys see that? It's got a little triangle on the end of the ruler and it allows you to kind of take that little triangle here and line it up to the edge
of your square right here. Okay? So, it
makes it look like you know, I'll try to get on a gray section of the mat. You
can see that a little better or maybe I can do Let's try to do it this way.
That way I think you guys will see it a lot better.
Yeah, so I take my little ruler and I'm going to line it up with the square right here.
And that that allows the little point to be right on that center. Okay? And then
what you do is you take that and you line it up on the other end and then you're going to take your pencil and you're just going to draw a line
on both sides. Okay? So, you got to draw a line on this side, you draw a line on the other side, and I personally then like to go ahead and line it up again on
the side and draw a line in the center.
So, I do it in three lines. Some people
just do the two lines. I like to leave the center because when we're done sewing, the first two lines that you're drawing that those are your sewing lines and then the one in the center is your
cutting line. So, I like to have it just
cutting line. So, I like to have it just so I can make a nice clean even cut right there in the middle. So, that's
how I like to do it. So, I've got the three lines here. And I use that, you know, use my ruler to make that. And
once you have that, I kind of put this over to the side. And then what we're going to do here
is we're going to take our fabric uh A and we're going to align this up.
And of course, they're going to be right sides together. And you're going to take
sides together. And you're going to take your sewing machine and you're going to go ahead and we're going to sew
right on the line. Okay? Idea is for you to be able to then flip it over and you will have a perfect triangle.
Because what we're going to do underneath is we're going to go ahead and cut underneath here so that you can maintain this
rectangular shape that fabric A has.
Okay? And then you're going to go ahead and grab your second one. You're going
to line it up as well, do the same thing. You're going to have a tiny bit
thing. You're going to have a tiny bit of overlap here on the end, which is what you want. And then you're going to go ahead and fold this as well, do the same thing.
And you'll have your flying geese unit.
Okay? And we're going to make four of these is what it's going to require. So, let's go ahead and get that one going cuz we've already got our lines all drawn out. So,
we're going to wake up Miss Molly over here and get her going. So, let's see here.
Let's drag her over. And good morning, Miss Molly. We need to wake you up
Miss Molly. We need to wake you up and get you going cuz we've got a lot of work to do. Now, I start off my project.
It's brand new [music] project. So,
we've got a fresh bobbin in there.
Cleaned her out a little bit. And she's
just ready to go.
And I'm going to align up my two fabrics here. Doing it one at a time. Lining up
here. Doing it one at a time. Lining up
my square and making sure that it's right sides together and it's all lined up. And I'm going to go ahead and take
up. And I'm going to go ahead and take my little long pins.
And we're going to just kind of pin her in place.
Because this particular project is really all about accuracy. And it's
really going to, you know, help when you use your pins and really take your time on this project. So, we'll see how we do on this. So, I'm going to bring this
on this. So, I'm going to bring this over.
Let me kind of scoot some other things away. Make sure I have my space.
away. Make sure I have my space.
And I've got my foot all caught up and tangled up on all the cords here.
There we go. I think that's a little better. But the way I like to pin it
better. But the way I like to pin it now, remember, we've got our sewing machine. You're going to be going down
machine. You're going to be going down your sewing line.
But um what I want to do is I like to pin kind of in an L backwards L shape.
So, I want to make sure that my fabric is not moving around anywhere left to right, but I also want to protect it from going um top and bottom. So, my pins, because I'm
positioning my pins in both directions, I'm hoping that will hold my fabric in place so it really doesn't jiggle around on me here.
All right. So, let's see here.
So, we know we're going to make this flying geese unit.
I can lay this kind of flat. I know that this outer piece on this side is going to flip over and cover this
side, right? So, I know I need to sew on
side, right? So, I know I need to sew on this end and I need to be on the inside of this line. So, I am sewing right
along this line, not exactly on the line. I'm going to be about a thread
line. I'm going to be about a thread over on this line so that it allows me to give me that little bit of extra space that I need to fold over the
fabric. So, let's go ahead and do that.
fabric. So, let's go ahead and do that.
And I'm going to line her up here.
See if I can get her a little closer.
There we are.
Okay.
And then we're going to go ahead. I am
all set up. Oops, sorry. I tapped that a little bit.
All set up to start here. So, let's just go ahead.
Nice and slow and steady.
That is going to be the theme of this quilt.
I am going to try to make sure I do not go too fast.
And hopefully that's going to help me out a little bit.
Okay.
All righty.
And now when I remove my pins here, I'm going to be able to fold this over and I'm going to have my nice unit here.
Right there.
Okay, but you know what?
I didn't sew on the right line.
[laughter] I just realized that. I was thinking of doing something else and I could fold it this way, but that would not be right cuz it won't bring me up to the corner.
But that's okay because what a way to start the project, right? But that's all right. We needed to sew here and I ended
right. We needed to sew here and I ended up sewing here and I'm not sure why I did that.
Let's do that again.
Let's just say that was the practice run, right? Well, at least I know it's
run, right? Well, at least I know it's not going to move around on me cuz I did remove my pins.
Okay. Not a good way to start, but that's okay.
Sorry guys.
I was thinking of something else.
I guess that's what happens when you have all these different projects on your head.
There we are. Okay.
There we go.
Now, let's try that again.
Yes, much better. Okay. There we are.
So, you can see that point here on the end.
See if I can bring this a little bit closer.
So, you've got that point here right on the end. So, when I fold this over,
the end. So, when I fold this over, it's hitting this point and I'm able to cover all of the material behind that here.
See how I don't have any of of fabric sticking out on the end here?
That's what happens when you're able to do that, right? And so now I'm ready to kind of let's scoot her over just a bit here.
I'm ready to now go to the other side.
So, this is what my first side will look like once I've got it all pressed away, right? We've got a nice unit here
right? We've got a nice unit here covering all the sides. And so, what we're going to do is take our second fabric and we're going to line her up here.
Remember I said you'll have a little bit of an overlap.
Just remember we need to sew in the middle this time, right?
I'm so used to doing other units that totally forgot about that. Okay. And so
here, I'm going [snorts] to pin her going one way and then I'm going to pin her going the second way.
And after you pin it, take a second to really lay it down flat on the surface and make sure that you're covering all of your sides here.
Cuz it really does make a difference.
Now, I'm going to try to start sewing on this end cuz I really want to make sure that I'm hitting this overlap here and then I will go all the way down.
Now, if you get confused on which side it is that you're going to be cutting, so when I lift this way, I know that I'm going to be cutting
my fabric A and my fabric C. I'm going to be cutting these two pieces off because
this piece that I just sewed in is going to overlap and it's going to replace the space for these two. So, at this point you can kind of take this
and let's scoot this a little bit a more.
I'm going to grab my ruler here and I'm going to line her up with my line and then I'm going to cut these two pieces of fabric away.
And I want to do that now before I do the overlap because once I do the overlap, you're going to have sewed this and so it's going to kind of be a little difficult to cut cuz this is going to be
kind of pinched down here. So, let's
open her up this way.
I've got this side making sure that this is out of the way cuz this is not part of what we're cutting.
Okay.
And then I'm just going to take my ruler with my grippy stuff on it and I'm going to line her up on my
outside line here that I drew.
Let me just grab this and then have it nice and lined up here.
I can see I'm a little bit off on this.
Okay, there we go.
And so, this is what I am going to cut off right here. So, I'm going to grab a rotary cutter.
Using the little Olfa rotary cutter today.
And we're going to just cut that piece off.
And there it is. And now when I flip this back over, it's already maintaining that rectangular shape. And so it just
rectangular shape. And so it just replaces that, right?
And then I'll have my two extra pieces that you can totally make something with, right? So, now let's go back to
with, right? So, now let's go back to the sewing machine and let's sew the other side. So, we're going to go ahead.
other side. So, we're going to go ahead.
Bring this over.
And like I said, I really want to hit this point right here. So, I'm
making sure that I am finger pressing this and I'm going to put this right underneath. Oops, sorry for bumping the
underneath. Oops, sorry for bumping the camera.
I'm going to put this right underneath here.
Okay. Let's take a couple of stitches there.
There we are and then we can go ahead and do the rest.
Nice and slow.
And you may want to pause in between, give your eyes a little bit of a break.
Right?
There you go.
Okay. And you can see here my stitching is just off to the line just a little bit. Can you see that?
It's a little hard to focus.
Just off that line, just a hair. That's
exactly what we want. Okay. Let's push
her over to the side and take those pins off.
Stick them over here. We still need to cut our excess here, right? But now when I fold this over,
right? But now when I fold this over, I've got my nice unit here, my little flying geese unit here.
Okay. So, let's fold this back and we're going to go ahead and cut that excess off.
Got my little grippy here.
Going to line her up again.
No moving around, right? Once you put that pressure down on it, it's really gripping. The little grippy tape is
gripping. The little grippy tape is holding on this little piece right here, a little piece here, and then we've got all this back end piece here that's [clears throat] really just holding it down, which is what I really
like about this. And then I'm going to go ahead and give this a nice cut.
Okay.
All right.
Now we can finger press this down and we've got our first unit right here. And
we want to do four of these, right? So,
this is going to be really easy to do.
And you're going to want to give this a bit of a press to make sure this lays nice and flat. You don't want to leave that little bit of a loop that it has, right? It's a little loopy. It's not
right? It's a little loopy. It's not
entirely flat. You can see the seams kind of, you know, popping up. So,
you'll need that iron to flatten that out. Um so, I'm going to make all four
out. Um so, I'm going to make all four units and then we're going to give this all a good little press here. So, keep
those to the side, but then, you know, you've got these guys.
You can totally make something with that right?
[laughter] So, we'll hold on to those. So, I'm
going to go back and grab two more of my fabric C and then another A fabric.
Here we go.
And here is A. Okay.
All righty. So, I hope you guys had a great weekend.
And you got some stitching done. If you
did, let me know what you've done this weekend.
Now, I'm lining up I because I already drew my lines just so that we could kind of get a head start on this. You can see how my lines are kind of joining here. That's um the
lines I draw all three lines, like I said.
I'm just used to it, even if I'm not using all three.
I just totally love to do that.
All right. And then I'm going to, of course, do my pinning and make sure that this stays in place for me.
Yeah. They want my fun fun song. They
want your fun fun song.
I don't know about you guys. I just
think it's fun.
[laughter] I think we need to add it to our next CD.
[laughter] All right.
So, go ahead and play your fun fun song while I sew away on our next piece. It'd
be distracting. It'd [snorts] be distracting?
I think it'd be fun.
Let him know if you want him to play the song. Why not? Oh, no.
song. Why not? Oh, no.
Sure. [snorts] I can't do that midstream.
Oh, okay. So, maybe in the end. We'll do
it in the end. How's that?
No, well, we'll take the chance of my crash.
It might crash on us. Okay.
Well, we'll find out. We'll find out.
All right.
Slow and steady. Slow and steady. I got
to keep telling myself. Stop speed
demon.
There we go. All right.
Whoop.
I just ran over my piece with the sewing machine. Miss Molly, you're running over
machine. Miss Molly, you're running over my pieces here. My goodness.
You don't need that stinking piece.
[laughter] What piece?
All right. I'll try to keep it off to the side here. All right. So, we've got our pins. We're going to take these off.
our pins. We're going to take these off.
And of course, old I always like to fold it over and make sure that I'm fully covering
the other side because if you end up doing something like this, let's go over to the desk cam.
Right? Let's say you went ahead and you sewed it and you did something like this. Let's just pretend, you know, this is folded all the way.
[clears throat] And you have the bottom fabric sticking out, you know that you didn't sew it correctly.
And so, you can always unpick and go back and resew. Or if you did like me and you sewed it on the wrong line and you were supposed to nudge over a little bit, you'll still
have some, you know, space to do that.
But always kind of fold it over to make sure that it's good before [clears throat] you go ahead and cut because once you cut, you cut.
And then you got to start with a whole new piece. So, you want to make sure
new piece. So, you want to make sure that you're hitting Oop. Now you're on the other side. Okay.
Oop. Now you're on the other side. Okay.
You're hitting your edge. You can't keep up with me, man. Focus. Focus here.
All right.
And so then, you want to make sure your edges there are nice and clean. You
don't want to see multiple fabrics on these edges, right? So, once you have that and you're comfortable with that, I'm like, okay, this is good.
And so, I finger pressed this and I've got my little roller here that I can also use to make sure that it's staying nice and flat. So,
this does help out a lot. Um in between from you being able to iron, using your little your little seam roller here does help out to keep that nice and flat. So,
you can use that as well. But if you don't have it, you can kind of just use your fingers as well. Okay?
All right. So, we've got that side all done. So, let's line up our second one
done. So, let's line up our second one here.
And I'm going to go ahead line this up and I will pin it in place.
Okay.
Here we go.
So, that's all pinned and ready to go.
And I'm going to go ahead and grab Miss Molly over here.
And we're going to start her off.
I'd like to start her off on the side that has um the little join here.
And I want to make sure that we hit that.
So, I'm going to start on this side here. Get her right underneath the
here. Get her right underneath the needle.
Just to do that little tiny overlap piece.
Get that one done.
Okay.
And then we can work our way.
And slow and steady.
Here we go.
Okay.
Now, let's kind of scoot her over just a bit and we're going to go ahead and remove these.
And do that fold over.
And then I'm going to grab the seam roller to help me out a little bit here.
And just kind of roll that into place.
See how that kind of helps out a little bit?
It's not the iron, but it does kind of roll it into place. So, I have a good idea that I am meeting this here.
So, you know what I did forget? I forgot to cut.
Boy, I'm a little off this morning.
Feeling a little off.
I did forget to cut. Not a big deal. You
can cut it after if you wanted to. But
like I said, the little overlap here, you know, it really doesn't matter too much as long as you can get to that line right there.
So, here's my two fabrics here.
Let's go ahead and cut that piece off.
So, let me line this up here and line it up on my bottom line here.
Get it a little closer to me so I can see what I am doing. There we go.
Okay.
Now, we're just going to cut these two pieces off.
Get that out of the way. And then we're going to go ahead.
See how I had to kind of awk- do a little awkward movement here because the overlap's already sewed down, but no big deal. When you get to the other side,
deal. When you get to the other side, it's totally fine. And then we're going to grab this top layer. Make sure that that one is right sides together. We have the
other two layers behind it.
And we're going to line this up here.
And then we're going to take our rotary cutter and just cut her off.
Okay. Let's put her on this side.
And there's our flying geese unit. Okay.
So, we've got two.
So, we've got those.
Two more to go. Yes. I said 200. No, not
200. Just two more for this block.
But we did save a lot of time by drawing those lines ahead of time. So, happy
about that.
So, getting those flying geese units done.
Now, obviously, we won't be able to finish the entire block today, but we're getting the flying geese piece done. And
then um after the flying geese unit, it's a little four patch that you'll have to do. And those are, you know, pretty easy. We should be able to bang those out pretty quickly
tomorrow. So, here's our flying geese
tomorrow. So, here's our flying geese unit again.
Lining this up here.
Again here.
Grab my pins and I'm going to go ahead and do those.
So guys, let me know if you are doing this along with me. I
know that um they've got some sew-along. I think the Fat Quarter Shop's doing a sew-along on these, but they're not starting until later and I really didn't want to wait
cuz I've got so many other projects that I want to get done.
Um especially around the America 250. So
I wanted to kind of start this and that's why we're kind of doing, you know, a block here, a block there.
But um I'm not going to do it all back-to-back cuz I want to get to other projects as well. And for those who are not making this particular quilt because it is a pretty large quilt, um it gives
you the opportunity to see other things in between. So
in between. So this is flying geese number three that we're putting together here.
And then here we are.
Okay.
There we go. Once again,
you know, just sewing right alongside that drawn line, okay?
All right.
Let me scoot this over a little bit.
And we're going to go ahead and fold this over, grab my little seam roller, have her
flatten this out for me.
Okay.
That helps.
And I can see that it's totally covering the entire rectangle, so I'm good to go ahead and cut it.
So I'm going to grab my ruler here.
See, I'm starting to get my flow in going.
It's coming along. Takes a while to get started, especially in the morning, right?
Let's see if I can drag this a little bit. Yep, right on my lines. So I'm
bit. Yep, right on my lines. So I'm
going to take my rotary cutter, cut these pieces out.
Okay.
And here's that first section right here and I can go ahead and grab the ruler again and we can just make sure she's nice and flat.
And the whole reason I'm making sure that she's flat is because you have that little bit of an overlap.
So you don't want anything bunched up into that little point over here that'll distort the rest of it, right? So you
want to make sure this stays nice and flat. And then we'll go ahead and we'll
flat. And then we'll go ahead and we'll add our next fabric C right on top. And again, here's that
little overlap here. So if you don't have a little bit of an overlap here, check your cutting to make sure that you cut it to the right size because you should have that tiny overlap. That's so
that you can have that flying geese unit size. So if we come over here, you can
size. So if we come over here, you can see that little piece. It's just a tiny amount of overlap that you're going to have there, okay? You want to make sure
that you do have that overlap.
So if you don't, that's an indicator that something is wrong.
So let's go back now and pin this down.
And I will pin the other side as well.
Make sure it stays in place and then I can go ahead and sew right on that line.
And before I do that, I noticed my thread came out.
So I am going to pull her a little bit here.
She kind of got off. Maybe um not sure what happened.
Time for Patches again. Oh, sure. We can
see what Patches is up to while I go ahead and rethread this. Since we're in Easter. Yeah, we're getting near Easter
Easter. Yeah, we're getting near Easter time.
Patches has a basket. Oh my [music] goodness.
Patches has gotten um his own little Easter basket there.
Okay.
I don't know. I think I kind of think of it as a he. I don't know. I guess.
Lisa told me say that I'm Patches, but it's okay to use he.
[laughter] Lisa, you're too funny.
Okay.
We're ready now. Oh, why am I pulling her away? Okay. All right. Let's get
her away? Okay. All right. Let's get
back to it.
So once again, I want to start in the area where my overlap is, making sure this is nice and flat and I'm going to go ahead and grab this little section right here
so it doesn't move around on me.
So I'm going to put that underneath the foot and line her up.
Make sure she's nice and flat. So my
finger right here is just kind of pushing down on that seam line to make sure that there's no bulk in between. I
want it to lay nice and flat as it goes over here and stitches that. So that's
what I'm doing there and then I'm just going to keep going and go ahead and sew the rest.
Again, right along that line.
You need to pause, you can pause.
Okay.
All righty.
Let's take off those pins and let's fold her over.
See what we got. Yep, we've got that covered. Looks great.
covered. Looks great.
Grab my little seam roller and just flatten her down before we can get to the iron. You see
how she'll lay nice and flat there?
That's what I'm wanting.
So number three has been completed. We're
waiting on number four now.
So we've got two left here and one left of fabric A. So we have already
uh completed fabric A and fabric C are now empty here.
All right. We've got this going on here.
Oh boy. Sounds like my neighbor is getting some work done cuz I can hear him hammering away.
So apologies if you guys hear that knocking sound.
All righty.
Let's go ahead and pin her and pin her here.
Yep.
Yep, kind of shifted on me there.
Let's re-pin.
That's better.
Always great to use a flat surface when you are pinning.
Just make sure that um you're doing that.
All righty. Perfect.
She's nice and flat. All right, we're going to drag this over. We only have a few minutes and I'm just going to sew up this last unit. So I'm going to do this a little quickly here.
Yeah.
We've got one side.
Let's remove those pins and fold her over.
And of course, that's what we get for doing this quickly. We sewed it on the wrong side.
Yeah.
[laughter] I told you. This is what I get for rushing. I see the time and I'm like, oh
rushing. I see the time and I'm like, oh my gosh, I got to go. And of course, I sewed it on this side of the line and it should have been on this side of the line. So yeah, I'll have to unpick that
line. So yeah, I'll have to unpick that one. So we'll just stop it right here.
one. So we'll just stop it right here.
We've got three out of the four done and that's fine. I will unpick it and resew
that's fine. I will unpick it and resew it. Not a big deal. Um but we've got
it. Not a big deal. Um but we've got three of our units completed.
And so these units were are going to be the outer units. They will be the outside pieces of the star.
And this is what it will look like when you're positioning them.
Okay, if I can get the ruler out of the way. There we go.
way. There we go.
And so this is kind of what it'll look like once you have this all last unit all sewn together, you know, you'll have
your nice star here on the edge. So this
is going to be your outer portion. So
you're working on this outer part and then tomorrow we're going to work on the inner part, which is just a four patch.
All righty, guys. That is it. This is
all I have for you guys today. We will
pick it up tomorrow and continue working on this block. I do have to go, but thank you guys all for tuning in. I
really appreciate all of your support. I
hope you guys have a fantastic day and get a little bit of crafting done. Let's
go ahead and get in our craft rooms and do a little bit of something, right? All
