We did it. [music] I found the Tesla Cyber Cab and it is charging for the first time that anybody in the world has seen this publicly charging. This is a Tesla Model S from my friend Josh West.
He has a YouTube channel where he drives around the United States and Canada in this thing. He loves it. He published a
this thing. He loves it. He published a video a week or two ago showing the Cyber Cab. So, I asked him, "Hey, can I
Cyber Cab. So, I asked him, "Hey, can I come down and hang out with you for the day? Let's see if we can find the Cyber
day? Let's see if we can find the Cyber Cab." Did you know this was going to be
Cab." Did you know this was going to be here?
>> I did not. Actually, I looked over. You
were like doing your mic and I look over. I'm like, "Holy smokes, it's the
over. I'm like, "Holy smokes, it's the cyber cap."
cyber cap." >> What do you think?
>> There it is.
>> You [clears throat] found it.
>> I haven't even started my camera yet today. And we found it.
today. And we found it.
>> Holy smokes. And more importantly, it's at a supercharger. Nobody's seen this before. That's not a Tesla employee. We
before. That's not a Tesla employee. We
didn't even know it had a charge port.
It was supposed to be like wireless and all this sort of things. And it actually has a little weather cap in there, too, which I've never seen on a Tesla. That's
normally something we see on the CCS ports on some of the other nonTesla EVs. And so he not only pulled open, but then had to pull off this rubber weather cap
and then plug the supercharger in. So
that's something new. And then this little drop down door, I don't believe it's powered. It looks like it's one of
it's powered. It looks like it's one of those like push things like on the old curio cabinets. You know, when you close
curio cabinets. You know, when you close the doors, you kind of push it and it sucks it in. And then same thing to open it. Just push it and it pops it. And
it. Just push it and it pops it. And
then it kind of free just freehinges down. It does not look like it's power
down. It does not look like it's power in any way.
>> Now, for those of you that don't know, this is the car that Elon announced and showed a bunch of stuff about at Warner Brothers Studios. I think it was like a
Brothers Studios. I think it was like a year ago.
>> OH, WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS THAT?
>> OH, [cheering] let's go. What is this?
let's go. What is this?
Is that real? [cheering]
Look at the doors.
[cheering] just driving by.
>> Both the autonomous car is here tonight.
>> And it was really, really cool looking.
It didn't have a steering wheel inside of it, but he said, "This is going to be the future of self-driving." Since then, they have launched the robo taxi, but it's basically just Model Y driving around in a bunch of different cities around America. And it's been kind of
around America. And it's been kind of annoying because it has a supervisor inside of it, like a guy sitting in the seat. I'm going to try some of those
seat. I'm going to try some of those today. But it's not really like a robo
today. But it's not really like a robo taxi like the future where these cars are just driving around with no people in it. Now we have seen one not not just
in it. Now we have seen one not not just one but two of them here. It is crazy that I come to Austin for one day and within 10 minutes I find these engineering prototype 001.
That's wild. You don't even have back glass on it. The whole thing is covered with what looks like gold metal. I would
love to see what it looks like inside of the trunk or when you're inside of it looking back. I thought at first that
looking back. I thought at first that maybe because it says V001 that maybe it was like the very first one, but they both have that sticker on there. So,
they're both prototypes. This is not like a special VIN number. We're in
public right now, by the way. We're not
like annoying. I mean, we're not like doing anything wrong. We can be >> I can be annoying.
>> We [laughter] can be annoying. That's
true. I can be annoying. Okay, if you look at the front on the windshield, the VIN number says 11:04 is the last four.
Can you see that?
>> Yes.
>> Go over to the other one. Do a little investigative work. Go see what the VIN
investigative work. Go see what the VIN is of the other guy. Okay, before they leave [laughter] look at him.
>> 1138. Wow. This one has a front plate on it.
138. Those don't line up at all. No
little side mirror right here. Nothing.
It doesn't exist. Instead, you have the camera right here. You would think that's way to be in the future. I don't
know if it'd get proved that way. Also,
the panel gaps are quite large. Even on
the other one, there's like some parts where it's coming out. The car is very dirty. You can tell that the snow and
dirty. You can tell that the snow and the ice has been on it. On the front there is no license plate and instead we've got like this weird hole with like a toe rope that could pull out I guess
in case it breaks down. The camera is right down here. So you've got one down in the front. You also have the one up the top. I've took the camera and went
the top. I've took the camera and went underneath it. There's a huge wave
underneath it. There's a huge wave underneath it. Right now it charges with
underneath it. Right now it charges with this little plug in the back. But the
whole plans for this thing is to be wireless charging. And so I think that
wireless charging. And so I think that indention is for future expansion for whatever wireless charging technology it will have. This to me looks like some
will have. This to me looks like some sort of wireless charging, but it's not.
It's the brake lights. When you pull up like a vacuum and it has the metal charging, that's not what it is. It does
have two windshield wipers. It doesn't
just have one like the Roadster and like the Cybert truck. This one ginormous 3 or 4 foot long floppy limp looking windshield wiper for this ginormous windshield. And look at this little itty
windshield. And look at this little itty bitty windshield wiper. It covers
basically the whole thing. And then the seats inside of it are crazy huge and comfortable looking. There is a steering
comfortable looking. There is a steering wheel because there is a person that still has to drive this thing around or supervise it as it goes around. With the
reflection on the glass, it's really hard to film inside the vehicle. But
what's crazy is that they've ripped apart that dash and there's now basically an aluminum extrusion coming out of the dash with a tilt lever and a cybert truck steering wheel or the
squirkle uh sitting on it. There are
there's no turn signals or anything like that. There's just a release lever to
that. There's just a release lever to kind of move the wheel up and down and that's about it. But there's like pieces of foam that are like zip tied to the dash so that the operator doesn't bang their knee on some of this just raw
aluminum extrusion that's hanging down.
It's very very unfinished and it does not look like it's supposed to be there.
>> So, do you think it has steer wire?
>> I would I would say yeah.
>> If it has the steering wheel for the Cybert truck, it must have steer wire.
>> Does it have four-wheel steering?
>> No. [laughter] Front wheel only. I like
how you say no on that right away.
Ginormous wheels. Centennial wheels. The
ones at the Warner Brothers thing that I went to, they had gold painted on there and they got a lot of negativity for that. They're like, "What are you trying
that. They're like, "What are you trying to do? Why are we painting rubber gold?"
to do? Why are we painting rubber gold?"
This doesn't, but it does have that cool arrow cover on it. It's the one time that an arrow cover actually makes sense. Also, how do you open the door?
sense. Also, how do you open the door?
I'm guessing it's this right there. A
little button. You push down on that.
There are so many different ways to open up a Tesla. How do you open the freaking door? Well, here it is on the Roadster.
door? Well, here it is on the Roadster.
It's this little side button and I push it and then [music] you pull the door open. You push on this little button
open. You push on this little button knob thing and then it pops out the handle that you grab it and you pull on it. It's simple, but it confuses a lot
it. It's simple, but it confuses a lot of people that don't know how to get inside of this car. It might be my favorite door handle because it pops out for you. Then you grab it and pull on
for you. Then you grab it and pull on it. You push on it, it opens for you.
it. You push on it, it opens for you.
It's this little tiny white dot you see right here. This whole glass panel or
right here. This whole glass panel or this piece is what you push on. Then it
opens up a little bit. You grab it and you muscle it open. There's add a new one to it. A little button right there.
The paint is a little bit scuffed. Like
look at the corner right there. Like
clearly this thing has been through some stuff. I mean, even if you look
stuff. I mean, even if you look underneath with the camera, it looks a little scuffed right there. They've
definitely been testing this somewhere.
This thing is built for durability. So
the rocker panels are really just a cheap but very heavy duty polymer like an ABS plastic. So they're going to take a lot of beating that the road is going to kick up, road grime, especially in city and that sort of thing. but also
people kicking it as they get in and out.
>> Okay, I'm such a little spy with [music] this stuff. Two things to notice here.
this stuff. Two things to notice here.
The car is not driving itself. He is
controlling it. Look at the steering wheel. It's all the way turned. Can
wheel. It's all the way turned. Can
confirm that it is steer by wire just by the way that it turned. And definitely
is not four-wheel steering. I mean, you wouldn't expect it to do four-wheel steering, but um it is steer by wire. I
saw him turn it all the way to the left and all the way to the right in order to make his turn. So, steer by wire needs to be on all of the Teslas. They
Frankensteined that whole steering column. I think they took that right out
column. I think they took that right out of Cybertruck and just Frankensteined it into the Cyber Cab.
>> Look at the size of the Cyber Cab. It is
the smallest Tesla that's been made since the [music] original Tesla Roadster. It's even more narrow than the
Roadster. It's even more narrow than the original Tesla Roadster. This Model Y looks huge next to it. Now, the second one when I drove away, the car wouldn't start. So, she gets her phone, gets the
start. So, she gets her phone, gets the app going, then just like the current Teslas, she slides on the screen and uses her hands to manually drive the car away.
There it goes. Goodbye, Cyber Cab. It's
been great to meet you. I come to Austin, Texas for not even a full day and I see the Cyber Cab. I'd call that a successful trip. After being here for an
successful trip. After being here for an hour or two, I think I can turn around and go home. Mission accomplished. So,
here is the plan. We are going to attempt to take a ride in the unsupervised robo taxi. So, we came to this place called Terry Black's Barbecue. So, the car has been ordered.
Barbecue. So, the car has been ordered.
It should be arriving soon. Here goes
ride number one. And guess what? It's uh
there's a dude inside of it. Awkward.
Why is there a dude? All right, we're going to still take the ride, but I'm not happy about it.
Don't have all day to be [music] here today. So, we'll see how many rides it's
today. So, we'll see how many rides it's going to take me that I can actually do today, but then also to see if I can actually find one that is unsupervised,
cuz we definitely have a supervisor.
Now I'm trying to get a ride to somewhere and it just says high service demand. Please come back later. They
demand. Please come back later. They
don't really have enough cars right now.
And then the ones that they do have, it does have a person inside of it. If I'm
just a everyday customer, like why would I go back to using robo taxi? Like I'm
immediately going to Uber. You want to go with what's reliable. I didn't want to go on a supervised ride, so I canceled it. There it goes. I don't want
canceled it. There it goes. I don't want the people inside. I want a robot to drive me around. I didn't come all the way to Austin to have somebody chauffeer me around inside of the car awkwardly.
All right. Am I going to get banned? Is
Elon Musk going to like >> Oh, yeah.
>> lock up all my vehicles now.
>> Bummer.
>> Look at that guy. There it is.
>> There's a person in there. That was
supposed to be our ride and then it had a person in it and we canled. I'm sorry,
Elon. be cancelled. We have requested eight different robo taxis today and every one of them have been supervised.
There's been a human being inside of it.
>> Okay. You live here in Austin.
[laughter] How hard is it going to be for you to be able to go on one of these rides? Like, and how often are you going
rides? Like, and how often are you going to try to do this? This is a tough one.
>> Well, I think I'll probably try again.
>> Probably tomorrow. I'll be back in the city. It's the the struggle is that the
city. It's the the struggle is that the system just gets overwhelmed and so everybody and their brother is trying to book one of these rides and so you're waiting a half an hour to 40 minutes
between bookings. So if you add up that
between bookings. So if you add up that time where you're waiting for the ride and then it shows up and either you cancel or you take the ride. Each
attempt is like an hour. So by the time you've done eight, that's a full working day of 8 hours and you come up kind of empty-handed. And you know, it's just a
empty-handed. And you know, it's just a matter of patience and getting Tesla to put some more of these things on the road.
>> I'm at my hotel. I have to go to Best Buy to get an external hard drive so that I can edit this video and get it to you. We get two more shots tonight of
you. We get two more shots tonight of Robo Taxi. Let's make it [music] 10.
Robo Taxi. Let's make it [music] 10.
Let's make it 10 tries. How many of them can be unsupervised Robo Taxi? This guy
right now is five minutes away. [music]
All right, number nine. Is there [music] a person inside of it? Let's see. There
is a person inside of it. We are not getting unsupervised. [music]
getting unsupervised. [music] We got one more try.
Hello. All right. It is [music] going to take us 35 minutes to get to the Best Buy that I need to buy this from, which is interesting because if you look at the map, the fast way would be to just get on the freeway right there and just cruise down. And it definitely wouldn't
cruise down. And it definitely wouldn't take 35 minutes. [music]
But these cars are not yet certified or [music] they haven't pushed it out to really go on the highways.
All right, we uh made it.
There we go. Goodbye, Robo [music] Taxi.
This guy was really nice. Really nice.
He didn't share anything that he shouldn't share. Um then I tried asking
shouldn't share. Um then I tried asking a couple little questions unintentionally, but I asked a couple questions and he's like, "Sorry, I can't answer that." And I'm like, "Oh, I
answer that." And I'm like, "Oh, I wasn't trying to be sneaky." So anyways, Best Buy is about to close. Let me go get this thing and then one more ride. I
got it. I got my portable hard drive that I forgot to bring with me on my trip. So now I can edit this video. Bad
trip. So now I can edit this video. Bad
news. I'm trying to order a car and it says high demand. 8:30 at night once one comes up. It might take another 30
comes up. It might take another 30 minutes till it gets here. So I could be waiting for an hour just to get one.
This store is closing. What are you you going to stand outside of a Best Buy in a city that you are not from and just stand here and wait? Definitely a
downside to this service right now. It
is not super reliable. Let's see if we can do an Uber. And we're going to find an Uber on here. Look at that. And look
how long it takes to get there. It takes
the freeway. It takes the freeway, which is the way that it should go. It's
so fast. And there's plenty of cars.
There's premieres. Uber X.
Confirm. Pick up here. See how long it says it's going to get here. Just like
that. Request ride requested. Ooh, look
at those tacos. I have a promo for tacos. Sounds good. See, Tesla didn't
tacos. Sounds good. See, Tesla didn't offer me tacos. Whimo. Oh, Whimo.
You matched with a Whimo. No way.
Confirm ride. They are just rubbing it in our faces. Tesla too high demand.
Can't come find me. I select this and it's like, "Would you like a Whimo?"
It's like they knew I was making this video. You saw it live. I was recording
video. You saw it live. I was recording it. Let's pull up the other one. Let's
it. Let's pull up the other one. Let's
see. Oh my gosh. A Whimo's coming to get me. That's perfect. The 10th. There we
me. That's perfect. The 10th. There we
Let's search Rainbow Robo taxi one more time. High demand. I'm trying Tesla. I'm
time. High demand. I'm trying Tesla. I'm
trying. We're only going to be able to do nine of them. [music] And the day was saved by a Whimo. The most reliable
self-driving cars in Austin, Texas is Whimo. And it also is the only one that
Whimo. And it also is the only one that I found that doesn't have a dude sitting inside of it. The dude was nice today.
He was nice. A lot of those supervisory guys were nice. But just drive. I know
you're capable at it. Just show up unsupervised. That is so dumb. All
unsupervised. That is so dumb. All
right, Whimo is gonna be the way. Also,
my hotel is renovating and I found the room where they keep all the toilets. I
can't tell if those are the new toilets or the old toilets, but that's lots of toilets.
