Today we are in a car park.
We are in a car park. I am at Curry's which is basically like it's this shop
right here. Curries in the UK is a tech

shop. So they tell they sell technology.
Um, and I just bought a new camera and a new microphone because I think if anybody has seen my old
videos, um, my audio is kind of bad.
This is disgusting. I also was filming a lot on my phone and this means that my phone would die really quickly and
sometimes I would run Anyway, sometimes I would run out of storage, so I bought a camera and it's
so cute. It's this. It's the DJI Osmo
so cute. It's this. It's the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and it's so small. Uh, I also
have Wilson with me. I have Wilson today in the village. It is the spring show. So, the plan is to go to the
show. So, the plan is to go to the spring show, which I will show you later. So, yeah, let's um let's spend
later. So, yeah, let's um let's spend the day together and um I will show you the UK in springtime. I'll show you the
UK in the spring. I now need to drive home.
I'm going to listen to the new Harry Styles album. Oh, Wilson's hot.
Styles album. Oh, Wilson's hot.
Um, I'm going to listen to the new Harry Styles album, Kiss All the Time Disco Occasionally. I
love it. And my favorite song on the album Oh my god, he's so hot.
My favorite song on the album is Taste Back. So, if you want music
Back. So, if you want music recommendations, I really like Tasteback by Harry Styles.
Anyway, let's go.
Oh my god, they're so cute.
They're like tiny little ponies.
That was all I just wanted to grab. We
just arrived. I need to put on Wilson's harness and I'm going to get a coffee
and we're going to head for a walk. Um,
he's seen a dog. He's going to go crazy.
Before we go for a walk, um we're going to head to the cafe and I'm going to just sit and enjoy the
sunshine a little bit. So this way to the cafe.
Me and Wilson are on a walk. We just had a coffee and I wanted to explain about the spring
in the British countryside.
So, we do not have like a particular celebration.
Um, we do have an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday with children. So, if you are a child in the UK at Easter on
Easter Sunday, the Easter rabbit, I just watched this clip and I called it the Easter rabbit. It is literally not
called the Easter rabbit.
It's called the Easter Bunny. The Easter
Rabbit, which is a mythical figure, a madeup figure, will come
and hide chocolate eggs in your garden.
And children will have an Easter egg hunt where they go around their garden and find these chocolate eggs.
Children will do Easter egg hunts. But
for adults, unless you are a Christian, there is no particular special event at Easter.
Um, the spring is more a time where everyone is happy because we have nice weather like we have today. So, this is
one of the nicest days we've had all year in terms of weather. Go.
There's a really cute cottage with a thatched roof.
Really cute.
Wilson Wilson loves being in the long grass.
I have had this phone. No, [ __ ] I have had this camera and this new microphone for about 2 hours
and already I have lost the clip.
So, the microphone has a magnet. It has
a magnet on the back to put it on your clothing. And I've lost it.
clothing. And I've lost it.
I have literally used this camera for like five minutes.
What am I like?
Oh well.
We're now going to walk down this path.
But I wanted to show you as well more trees.
So, we had a really big storm a few weeks ago and lots of trees fell down.
So, you can see here, these are the roots of the tree.
We also have lots of these old walls in the UK. So, this is a wall. It's made of
the UK. So, this is a wall. It's made of stones. It's man-made. So, it's made by
stones. It's man-made. So, it's made by people. And it's covered in green moss.
people. And it's covered in green moss.
Can you see all of the moss?
It's a very old wall and trees are growing out of the top.
Wilson gets really excited when he is in a forest because he loves to chase squirrels.
He loves to chase squirrels. Can you
see? He's trying to find squirrels right now.
I think as well squirrel is one of the most difficult words for nonnative English speakers. They find the word
English speakers. They find the word squirrel really difficult to say.
So maybe see if you can pronounce squirrel correctly. I think Americans say like
correctly. I think Americans say like squirrel.
Squirrel or squirrel if you prefer British English.
It's a water trough for farm animals to drink.
Where I live in the UK is the countryside.
And in some places like where I live, we celebrate the spring with a spring show.
And these spring shows will happen in various villages where people will bring in like
flowers that they have grown in their garden or cakes that they have baked or jam that they have made. and they will
have a competition in the village to see who has the best spring produce. So, it
might be who has the best eggs or who bakes the best cake. And it's really cute. So, later this afternoon, there is
cute. So, later this afternoon, there is a spring show in a nearby village. So,
I'm going to go to that.
So, we have just got back from our walk. I'm
going to drop Wilson home. I'm going to take Wilson back to the house and then it's time to head to the spring show and
I can show you a little bit what a spring show looks like.
an adult cat for that.
>> The spring show is held in the village hall which is basically a public building in the heart of the village.
It's a public building in the center of the village.
And as you can tell from the clips, it was very busy. There were lots and lots of people at the show. And
I was a little bit hesitant to film. I
was a bit hesitant to Oops. Sorry. I was
a bit hesitant to film people because obviously I do not know if they want to be in the video. So, I wanted to explain
a little bit what is happening in these video clips. What is actually going on?
video clips. What is actually going on?
As you can see in these clips, there are some of the produce and entries of the spring show. So, many people submit
spring show. So, many people submit these yellow flowers called daffodils, which are a symbol of spring in the UK.
And basically there is a competition to see which daffodil is the best.
People also enter things like cakes or jam and other baked goods. Uh and there is a competition for children as well.
So children will create tiny little fairy gardens and chocolate cakes. Um
they also decorate eggs. Um, eggs are a symbol of spring in the UK because eggs represent new life um and rebirth. So,
eggs were painted by children as well.
Um, there were also some animals made out of vegetables such as this worm made out of a carrot. Um, it's all very cute
and if you win, you get a small amount of prize money. only a couple quid, like a couple British pounds. It's not a lot
of money. Um, people mostly just enter
of money. Um, people mostly just enter the competition to be a part of the community. There is also a prize giving.
community. There is also a prize giving.
So, if you win lots of different categories, you can win a trophy. Um,
and they have an awards ceremony with that as well. There is a speech before the trophies are given out and I will
include a small extract of that here as well. The speech is at native speed and
well. The speech is at native speed and I am going to include a small extract so you can see if you can understand any of it.
>> Welcome to the annual spring flower show. It's lovely to see so many people
show. It's lovely to see so many people and wonderful exhibits here today.
is a huge credit to everyone involved, past and present, that the village has both the spring and autumn shows still running as many other villages have lost theirs. So, congratulations to everyone
theirs. So, congratulations to everyone for just keeping this going. It's
amazing.
>> After the speech and the award ceremony, there was a raffle. Um, a raffle is basically a fundraising competition
where you buy a row of numbers and then they pull numbers out of a basket and if
they call your number then you win. So I
bought four rows of tickets and to win one of the prizes at the raffle I needed the right color ticket and the right
number. So, I needed ticket 210 to be
number. So, I needed ticket 210 to be called in the color that I had on my raffle ticket.
>> Another yellow one.
>> 29.
>> That's an early one.
>> 29.
>> I didn't get it on camera, but I actually won the raffle. Um, so here is
me post win, post glory, um, with my new prize. We're just now leaving the the
prize. We're just now leaving the the raffle and they pulled my ticket, so I
won. Um, I wanted a bottle of Shiraz.
won. Um, I wanted a bottle of Shiraz.
There was a bottle of red wine, which I wanted, but the person before me took the wine, so I have an Easter egg
instead. This was the prize that I chose
instead. This was the prize that I chose for my winning ticket. And I have been speaking about Easter eggs this whole video. So, I thought I could show you. I
video. So, I thought I could show you. I
figured I could show you like what an Easter egg is. Okay. So, okay. So, this
is the Easter egg. And I'm going to open the box.
And with an Easter egg, you normally get one large chocolate egg. So this is the Easter egg. And then you get some extra
Easter egg. And then you get some extra chocolates underneath.
So this is a celebrations egg. So I have a box of celebrations underneath.
And the egg itself is not solid. So it's
hollow.
Can you hear it's hollow? So when I do this, the chocolate has
broken.
And um then you have some chocolate.
