This is how I get startup ideas that generate SALES

By Nico Jeannen

Summary

## Key takeaways - **Four Components of Good Ideas**: A good and profitable idea consists of four parts: perceived value, scale, technical skills, and distribution. Without all four, especially distribution which is most important, the idea won't succeed. [00:43], [04:20] - **Perceived Value Drives Purchases**: People buy when solving a need is more valuable to them than the product's cost, like John buying because the value exceeds the price. This is the first component of a good idea. [00:52], [01:14] - **Balance Scale and Perceived Value**: Scale varies from universal needs like eating to niche like stamp collecting, but balance it with perceived value: $1 stores have low value but massive scale, private jets low scale but high value, both make millions. [01:16], [01:59] - **Solve Others' Problems Directly**: The best method is solving other people's problems by asking direct questions about past behavior like 'when was the last time you had this issue' to avoid lies, as in Zappos starting from a $100 forum offer. [05:26], [06:22] - **Improve Existing Products 10x**: Take existing products and make them 10x better by adding features for convenience, removing for simplicity, or niching down like bodybuilder yogurt with extra protein and less fat, doubling price. [06:43], [08:13] - **Score Ideas, Triple Distribution**: Score ideas 1-10 on four components, triple distribution score, sum and sort by highest to prioritize; launch fast even if not perfect, better than never launching. [08:22], [08:53]

in the last 15 months my project IDs generated over $200,000 of sales but it wasn't always like that just a few years ago I wasted days trying to find the perfect ID and when I tried to launch

them most of them failed anyway so what changed the main reason is that I become better at finding idas and I ended up making a system to teach bad ideas and only focus on the best one but before we

dive into how to get good ideas you need to understand what make a good idea and the key to good and profitable ideas is made of four parts now when you ask online how to get project idas they

usually answer something like make things people want while it's true it's not very actionable what does that even means what we really want to know is if the ID is good enough so we can make a

living from it and that's why the first component of a good ID is a Pur of value to understand Pur of value you just need to understand why people buy stuff let

me explain this is John John have a need or desire he think your product can solve it solving this need is more valuable to John than what your product cost so John buy your product it's that

simple pural value means that your customers value what your product does more than what it costs but good ideas is not just pural value there is more if there are only 30 people in the world interested by what your product does you

probably won't go very far this is why the second component of a good ID is the scale for example eating and drinking are needs that cover 100% of the population but on the other hand something like collecting stamps

probably appeal to a limited amount of people so the scale will be much lower so surely we should avoid needs with a low scale right well not necessarily what matter is a balance between scale

and peral value $1 store products have a very low peral value but have a massive scale to compensate on the other hand there might be only a few people in the world who can afford a private jet so the scale is really low but since the

per value is so high it compensate both can make millions of dollar of sales even if they have completely different scale and pursue value but that's not all because a good ide is before

anything else an ID you can execute sure you might have a revolutionary ID for a social network but how hard would it be for you to actually launch it and get

users the third component to the key to a great ID is your technical skills simply said if you have an ID for an app do you know how to code if you have an ID for a physical product do you know

how to make prototypes if the answer is no it might be difficult for you but it's not the end most people completely skip great ideas just because they don't have the technical skills there are

thousand and thousand of resources to learn any skill you want online I learned to cod in just two months and was able to launch a profitable software business in less than a year after that so if you're missing a skill to launch a

project try to learn it before giving up that being said if you cannot do it you cannot learn and you don't have enough money to pay someone to do it for you chances are this project is probably not

a good idea for you right now now or key is almost completed but we're still missing the most important component and this is a part everyone underestimate and Lead many startup to the graveyard

even if you make the best product in the world if no one hear about it no one will buy it so it is worth nothing so before launching your project have you asked yourself how to actually get

customers if you are making a revolutionary spaceship engine but you don't have any contact or anything related to the Aeronautics industry you will probably have a hard time selling

it on the other hand if you already have an existing audience of people who like scuba diving and you launch a new scuba diving mask chances are you will make money from day one this is what we call distribution and this is the final and

most important component of our key without it the door will not unlock so how do you get distribution this is a very large topic that will need its own video but to keep it very simple there

are two ways the first is building your own distribution it can be as simple as finding emails of potential customers online and contacting them or posting relevant content on social media to build an audience the second one is to

borrow someone else distribution when you run ads on Facebook on Google Etc you are just renting Their audience to spend years building it's much faster but Al much more expensive to summarize it even if you have the best idea in the

world if you don't have a way to distribute it to customers it's probably not a great idea for you so we know have of four components and we can assemble them to unlock the door to the next part

how do we actually find good ideas in my seven years of Entrepreneurship I use four techniques and we're going to start with the worst one when you are starting out trusting Your Instinct on random

ideas if you have zero experience in entrepreneurship you probably don't have what it takes to get good ideas out of the box now don't get me wrong it is much better to launch random IDs than do

nothing and that's how me and I think most people started just by launching a project you will learn new skills and find new problem you can solve and this is what the second method is about if you notice something that annoys you in

your life chances are you are not the only one to have this problem and that can be a startup idea and this is why the number but one thing I recommend when you're starting out is to try new things get out of your comfort zone try

new hobbies launch bad ideas talk to new people the goal is to make your problem solving MUSC works and approach everything with how can I find a problem here to solve the downside of that is that you will probably end up inventing

problems that are not that important and this is why the next method is in my opinion the best one it's pretty much the same except instead of solving your own problem you're going to solve other

people's problems this is how many big startup like zap got started the founder saw someone asking a question on the Forum and offer to solve his problem for $100 the person accepted and that's how

the P got started there are a few ways you can do that the best is to ask people directly what problem they have in a specific area of their life pick an issue familiar with think of a problem people could have and ask them questions

the key here is to not assume anything if you already have a product ID you might be tempted to ask something like would you use that product but people will try to be nice to you they will say yes yes but when it's time to collect

payments there will be nowhere to be found instead ask questions that make it impossible for them to lie for example ask questions about past Behavior like when was the last time you had the issue or have you tried to make your own

solution that kind of questions will tell you a lot about how much the value the problem you're trying to solve I would highly recommend you to read the mom test it basically cover how to do that but what if you don't know anyone

you can still search on online forums like Reddit cor Etc search for keywords like either a way to how can I either a map for ETC if someone is asking that it

either means there is no solution or they are not aware that one exists which give you an opportunity to create and Market your own but if you don't know anyone to ask and cannot find anything

there is one last method it's a bit harder but can works really well if executed properly the method consists of taking something that already exists and make it 10 times more valuable for that you can either improve it a lot or

nishing it down to improve it you can either add features or remove some now now you might think removing features is a bad thing and it decrease the value but no let me explain on one side people

value convenience so adding features people ask will automatically increase the value of your product but people also value Simplicity online software are often plotted with features that

make it super hard to use them and people feel like they're overpaying so just by removing features you are making it easier to use which is more valuable on the other hand niching down means

packaging your product for a a specific audience that can be a psor graphics or a demographics and it immediately increase perue value because the product feels more relevant for your specific

audience for example let's take a simple product a yogurt to Niche it down let's focus on a specific subset of audience bodybuilders for example now we can add features specifically for this audience

for example extra protein and less fat and congrats just by doing that you know have a product specifically for bodybuilders and they will be happy to pay double the price because it's made specifically for them and this apply to

everything from physical product to softwares sure you might get less customers but they will be willing to pay more for a solution that fit exactly their needs whatever the method you use

as soon as you get an ID just write it down and over time you're going to make a huge list of IDs you can always come back later but then you might have a new problem which ID should you focus on

first you're going to take your list of IDs and run them using the four components we saw give each ID a score of 1 to 10 triple the score of distribution because it's the most important then add

everything together now you just have to Sol the IDS by biggest score and take the one at the top of the list you might be tempted to spend weeks trying to find the perfect ID using this method and

that would be a huge mistake it's way better to launch a bad ID in two weeks than never launch a perfect one the more you launch the better you become at it and the more problem you will be able to solve now if you want to see what

happens when you launch an ID fast and it works watch this video
