and he also says tabitha that if we want to know the truth we should approach a teacher and the teacher should be coming in this guru prompt means a succession an apostolic

succession of different teachers so before we study the work of any teacher we should look at that teacher have a have know

something about that teacher and which tradition that teacher comes in so i'm going to share a screen here's a uh here's a picture of our

author this is a picture of pilay lokacharya and uh you can see that he has a temple behind him

and uh he's got some pages of manuscripts here in front of him he's got his hand right hand in the gyana mudra for giving knowledge uh he's wearing

sriracha over tilaktangalai shrivashnavati and he's wearing earrings and uh and uh is wearing uh around his neck some

nalinak shamala and tulsimala tulsi is the beads of the holy basil tree and uh nalu nakshamala is a base

is a seeds of lotuses which represents lakshmi so shrivashnav as they usually wear both of these because shri sampradaya coming from mother lakshmi

as one of the first acharyas we'll discuss that in a minute so he's wearing those in the shasta it says the the the shoulders are branded with the symbols of vishnu

the chunka and the chakra chakra on the right side the shank on the left shoulder yes he's wearing vertical markings on his forehead

and other parts of his body right they're actually 12 or 13 places and uh this sloka says that these are the external markings of a vaishnava

these are the external blockings of in a traditional in a traditional setting in india like that now in some other countries you might see somebody who doesn't wear all these things but

still internally they're vaishnavas right so it's not necessary that necessarily that all vaishnavas might have these all these external

um characteristics but this is in the shastra the external um the external markings of vaishnava so that's this is

a pile of acharya so now uh you know also he's got a he's got a tuft he's got a seeker and he's got a cropped shaved head a little bit like that

so he is wearing now white cloth does that mean he was a green huster no he was not a green huster he was a brahmacharya he was a brahmacharya never took never

got married so here's uh uh in south india the normal situation actually in most of india it's only the sannyasis

and the sadhus that we're the saffron plot who are the celibates right you you do have other people who are also celibate but they're not wearing white

not wearing saffron they're wearing white so uh normally a student in a person who's a brahmacari or even would be wearing this white cloth but perhaps they don't wear

a punchy catcher they don't wear the the tail on the dodi they just wear like a sarong style dodie which is called a vesti in tamil nadu

so because we're studying a little bit about sri vaishnava shrivajnava author we should know a little bit about sri vaishnovism and srivashan of a group from brah that is called

oranvari which is tamil which means in the shape of a garland parampara so normally

anybody who knows what a guru prampara is normally we understand a guru from goes from the lord god

and comes down to us through a succession of teachers for a succession of teachers yes but here we find it's a little bit

different here we find up the top here is the lord and it goes down one side and it goes up the other side clockwise

and comes back to the lord and turns into a garland so i'm going to make this bigger so that everybody can see and we'll go through the different parts and we'll see where pillar locator comes

so for those of you who cannot read there's some things in english and for those of you who cannot read the tamil i will read the tamil and explain it okay so on the top here we have

normally on the top of srivaish never documents and things like that we see the tilak which is called tiraman in tamil which consists of a white part and a red

part or sometimes a yellow part the yellow part or the red part in the middle is called srina which is made of turmeric or turmeric

with lime which turns into and becomes red represents the goddess shri in the sri sampradaya we are very we are always mentioning the goddess

shree because she is basically the founder of chariot of the sampradaya so in the middle of the tilak is this red line for sri

when when when the tear lock is put on it's put on with names of vishnu for the white part and names of sri for the red part so the white part here indicates

uh this is this is tengalai tilak which is you can think of it as being uh protestant is considered to be a protestant or a what what they would call in india a

tingling there are two main sections to the shri vajna of sampadaya there are many sections but there are two main sections one of them is watergalley and one and

other is tencolite the word kalai is attached to both of them the word kalai means culture so there is a cultural community right

from the north of tamil nadu near kanchipuram and there is a top there is a culture or a community from the south of tamil nadu

or srirangam the one from srirangam that the the one of the sri rangamacharias is this this is the tilak of the srirangamacharis and it looks like

the letter y with a little stick underneath in english there's another t-lock which looks like another u without a little stick down the bottom

just looks like a u and sometimes has red and sometimes has yellow in the middle for lakshmi that is this the the northern community the watergalai

uh tilak so in in at the top of all documents three russians they always put the tilak the tiraman to show that it's the sri vision of a document it's just revision

of a thing and uh it'll either have that it'll either have the the tangle it like here which represents the two feet

of the lord on the person's head we but we are the three vaishnavas we believe in the in the system of property of complete surrender to the lord when you surrender to somebody it means

you put their feet on your head it means the the top most part of your body is placed at the lowest part of their body so when we put the t-lock on our head

we're putting the lord's feet on our head both feet the water glides the north in the northern section with they have simply a u

it looks like one footprint it looks like the bottom of the heel of one foot the right foot of the lord so either you put one foot of the lord or two feet of the lord on your head you're

surrendering to the lord so both both sections of the srivajna sampurdaya believe in complete surrender to the lord and therefore they wear this tilak in

the form of the feet of the lord on their head this is called tiraman and in the middle it's called sri chuna 4 or the sri powder for

lakshmi on top of that there's a little symbol there that is the that is a tamil uh symbol for the for shri the special symbol in tamil

uh and it means shri just like in sanskrit sometimes we see the om symbol is this is a distinct letter so in in tamil there's a distinct letter for the for the word

sri sri so it represents lakshmi so a lot of times people will start that out at the top smartest in tamil nadu they put it they put it like a two it looks like a an english two at the

top and that actually means ganesh but three vaishnavas we put the shri there above on the right and the left sides

of the tilak are the chakra the sudoshina chakra of the lord which represents the lord's kriya shakti his ability to

uh to create and on the right side we have the punch of the lord panchajyanya right the poncho of the lord which

represents the mercy and also the knowledge right factor on the further right and the further left

we have two personalities who are devotees of the lord here we have garudan rudin is a nityasuri is a is a an eternal associate of the lord in

vaikuntha in srivai kunta or what we call paramapada the supreme destination uh and which is called also nitivibuti the eternal place

as as distinct from the place that we are in now which is the the non-eternal place it's also eternal but it's ever-changing uh nity bibuti and we have here leela dibuti the place of leela the

place of the different incarnations of the lord and his different leelas his different leaders for his incarnations and through also through us

so garudan is uh the divine carrier or vahana uh carrier of the lord of lord vishnu rides on

the garuda bird uh eagle and he is called by srivaishnavas as periya tiruvadi peret pere tiravari peritura body

tiruvadi right in sanskrit the word adi means to etc it means beginning with it literally means beginning with a person when we say a person beginning with a

person the beginning of the person is of the ground right the feet up to the head right the feet to the head so the feet

are the beginning so tiruvari thiru means sri the word tiru in tamil is equal to the sounds with shri so when we say teru anything

it means shri so like sri rangam is a famous vatican of the srivaishnavas the most holy place of

which means heaven on earth and sri rangam is also called tiruvarangam in tamil so sri is equal to thiru in tamil in sri

vaishnava sampradaya you're going to hear a lot of things in sanskrit and a lot of things in tamil so for instance all the acharyas have they have sans with names and they

have tamil names also so sometimes you'll hear people talk about ramanuja ramanuja is the sanskrit name for the acharya ramanuja

but they'll also call him ember man so sometimes you'll hear shri vaishnava speak and use the tamil term sometimes you'll hear them speak the

sanskrit term so here we have garudan also called garuda alwa alwa the word alwa in sanskrit in tamil excuse me is a tamil word which means a person who is

so devoted he dives deep into the ocean of devotion he is called the periativati because in sri vaishnavism he's considered more important than the other

person on the other side who is hanuman hanuman is on the other side and he is called syria tiruvari the smaller devotee the bigger devotee and the smaller

devotee or in other sampradayas like the mudvasambradaya they consider hanuman more important and garuda a little bit less important actually but they're both very important servants of the lord they're all they're

eternal servants of the lord but but uh just one gets more prominence in one sample than the other okay so we can refer to garuda as

garudan or periatirovari we can refer to hanuman as hanumantha hanuman okay in tamil it means alwa when we say al-war

there are 12 r wars some people say there are 10 some people say there are 12 okay but normally they are there are 12 alvars and the

alwars are great saints hogai booted pay tirumala sai kula sheikhara um madhur kavi nama

war i think i got them all right yeah if anyway we can have another discussion about our wires some other time

the alwars came before this or it's a little separate than the sri sampradaya there is one hour who is counted in

the guru prompt and that is so when people say the word alwa and they don't say a particular name before it

they mean nama the head of the al wars he is the greatest alwa he is the greatest devotee of the lord so nam we can talk about namawa's life some other time but i just want to say

that when people say al war they mean just understanding this picture is always all we need to do and then we'll go directly to the

chariot so alwa means al-war means na ember manar as i just said is another name for ramanuja jeer the word jeer here means

okay who came after pillow lokacharya also comes in our group rampara this is particularly the tingalai it means property so when i say sharnam

it means i i i i surrender to you or i surrender to them so here they say alwa ember manager tiruvari i just told you what tiruvari

means is plural ending and it means honorific so if i want to say it means the holy feet right the holy feet if i say to vadi

galay or tudovarigo it means the holy feet plural and it means it means the more respected holy feet so it's an addition to make it more

respectable so if i say alwa what it says sorry excuse me it means i surrender through the feet of nam awar

this is in chronological order the persons who came before and persons who came after na malwar in bitter and ramanuja and manavala mar muni so these are

these these people are highlighted in this particular saying so some people will end their emails like this they'll end their letters like this or they'll start like that they may even

start the beginning of a class i surrendered to this to this this this set of acharyas right so that's very that's very you know just just putting na war and and uh and

ramanuja and manavala ma muni that's like very simple idea of parampara now we're going to see a little bit more the guru rampara

ratnamala the the mala of jewels the fl the garland of jewels that is the group from sri vaishnavism now it starts here with sri ranganatha

sri ranganathan means the supreme lord in vaikuntha the earth the srirangam is bullock the ranganatha [Music]

golden uh uh golden tower above him and the the processional deity in front of him is called nam paramo the word paramal in tamil means vishnu

paramo means vishnu naam we just heard the word nam for namawa and now again we hear the word nam for non-paramount the processional deity the small deity

that goes around the streets of sri rangam in those different places is called nam paramo so it means our vishnu it means our lord

the word na means our when we say naam awar it means our awar he was the head of the awards nama so we call him our numar it's a it's a it's a term of endearment to say

our person we're going to see the word nam also is going to come again with some of the acharyas here right so we have nam

our saint and we have nam paramo our god right so we start out with the supreme personality of godhead godzilla narayana

and and this is his arch avatar his his his emanation as a deity form in sri rangam in tamil nadu in tamil nadu in trichinopal district

right in between the the two rivers the two branches of the river calvary on an island and there's a whole story about that which we won't go into now

so lord uh lord ranganatha and namparamal his utsava deity our lord right are considered to be the starters of the sampradaya

the starters of sampradaya every sampradaya doesn't matter whether you're shaivites vaishnavas whatever you are always starts with the god always starts with god

so even the shaivites they'll start with shiva the device numbers they always start with vishnu or krishna or rama right

whoever is the their idea of the person the supreme person started their sampradaya so here's the first acharya

so lord lord lord ranganath is the first acharya next the next acharya is over here sri ranganayaki peria

her sanskrit name is ranganayaki another name for her is lakshmi sri lakshmi or just shri devi shri right so she is also there in vaikuntha

she's the goddess of fortune she's the principal consort of sriman narayana and she's always accompanying shrima narayana everywhere as the srivatsa on his right side of his

chest so her sanskrit name is sriranganayaki or you can call her mahalakshmi or sri uh sri lakshmi or just sri devi

or shri right so she's always indicated with the word sri so whenever we have the word sri or sriman or srimat or srimati

it always indicates lakshmi and lakshmi is the first founder acharya well we have to say ranganatha is the founder of charia he's the first but uh

but sri devi is the first acharya she's the first acharya so from sri devi the next person in the group rampara is called sri vishwa oh i just forgot

peria purity is her tamil name purity means she's the supreme lord's consort heria means that she's the main consort peria means

big as we had with hanuman and garuda garudan is called periya tiruvadi hanaman is called syria

so peria and syria in tamil means big and little or main and secondary so she is called periapirity she is the main consort of srimad narayana

he has some other consorts also uh mostly buddhavi the goddess of the earth and also neela devi okay so uh more about that in a nifty different

class trivishvaksena is the next personality here vishwaksena is considered to be and he said here vishwaksena is the commander-in-chief of lord vishnu's army

in vaikuntha so far we have three personalities the lord the goddess and vishwaksena all of them are in srivai kunta they're

all eternally in srivai kunta they can manifest in this material world but they are eternally in srivai kunta so vishwaksena is the first third one srivishvaksena

right underneath in tamil his other tamil name is called senai moodlia senai muddilya so senai means soldier he is the commander-in-chief of lord

vishnu's army don't ask me why lord vishnu needs an army in vaikuntha but somehow rather he has this personality who acts like a secretary to him and also sri vaishnavas normally pray to

this person instead of praying to ganesha to clear away obstacles in the course of any endeavor okay so after vishwaksena we're

going to try to move a little faster now right after vishwakseena we have nama now we spoke about namawa before namawa is the first of the always the main not the

first hour in in terms of appearance so chronologically he's not the first alwa but he is the main award who wrote the most uh

praise of the lord in tamil the the alwars the 12 hours have written 4 000 verses which are called the nala yira

nalayira divya prabandam prabandam means the tamil verses divya means divine the divine tamil

versus divya prabandham nalayira nala and sanskrit in tamil means four ayara means thousand so nalayira

versus divine tamil verses of the al-wars so i believe that namawa has out of those four thousand he has offered about 1135

approximately so more than one thousand let's say there's one there's his teuto by molly is a thousand so he has he has authored the most out of any

of any uh alwa and here's the main alway so here is called namawa now there is no i don't know that there's any sound ah there is a sanskrit

name there is a sanskrit name for namawa and that is sadakorban but it's not mentioned here here it's written srinamarwar underneath it in tamil it's written sri

namah one so nama awar or sadiq open is considered to be an incarnation of ishvaksina okay so these two people are actually

the same person this one in vaikuntha and this one here in this material world he appeared in a place called al waternagari very south of india tip of india

and appeared to be a stillborn child because he didn't eat or drink or and he just wanted to meditate and sit underneath the tamarind tree so sometimes you'll see him and especially you'll see if you see a

personality with a hairstyle with the hair over to the side with that with the bun of the hair over to the side as it is here over he's got the bun over to the left

side right he's left his left side right that is especially if he's sitting underneath the german tree that's not my work now if you see a if you see a lady with

a bun over one side over here that's the goddess undull who's an incarnation of the goddess of the the saint andal who's also the female uh alwa

one of the twelve uh alwas was a lady called andal she's also known as golda davie and she also wears her hair like that over to the side you'll see if you go to a shreve ocean of a wedding they always just the brides

up and they put the hair over on one side it's a traditional thing that they do um for the brides because they considered to be like to be like lakshmi to be like

uh go to devi at the time of the wedding so now for coming from nama awa the next person is called sriman natamuni sriman natamuni is the next

acharya uh so natalmuni is uh is that his name in uh in in sanskrit um

i can't exactly remember if he's got a tamil name but it's because it says srimad not the muni munigal down down below uh remember go or hull at the end is respectful like

saying g in hindi yeah okay then below here is pandarikaksha when the recapture the important thing about ngata muni is that the four thousand

hymns of the alwars were lost at a certain point and not the moony in about the year 800 he uh he refounded he found all of them and there's a whole story about that which

we won't go into today but he received them by doing penances he received them in a yogic trance from na malwa who appeared to him right even though it was hundreds of

years after some not the muni they were they're past the next person in the group rampara is sri pandarikaksha when the recapture is his sanskrit name

his tamil name is uyakonda uyakonda so punduri kaksha name is manikal nambi manikon nambi

the word nambi nambi nambi isa is a is just a respected person respectable person it's called a numbi

there's some other people like perry and umbi nami is just a an appellation like you know another name so anyway we have sri rama

rama mishra who is called manikal nambi and he is the one who preached to the next person his next the next disciple history

yamunacharya for those of you who have been studying uh that's by immunity

it's a it's the condensation of the 700 verses of the bhagavad-gita into 32 verses he wrote some other book he wrote some other books like utma city sumbit city ishwara city he

wrote guitar to sangraha the abridgement into 32 verses of the boa gita he wrote two stokras chatrish sloki on the four four four verses on the goddess three

mahalakshmi and uh another one called stotra ratna about the supreme lord all in all in sanskrit so um

his tamil name is if we go further down we have from the immunitarian humanitarian had five main disciples here we see one of those disciples is

mentioned in the group rampara that is the person who what became the diksha guru of tripad ramanujacharya who is down the bottom here

that is mahapura that's his sanskrit name mahapuna right here's the tamil the tamil name is periya nambi remember i said number means a respected

person peria means big big big respect respected person so perrier means big maha means big in sanskrit

and peria means vegan in tamil so his name is now ma porno or perry nambi himalachari actually died before he had met ramanuja so he

saw ramanuja he recognized that ramanuja was going to be the great leader of the sri vaisnava sampradaya

but at the time ramanuja was in a different gurukula studying under a person called yadava prakash who later became his disciple and this yadav prakash was a follower of

veda beta he was not a shri vaishnava sri vaishnava has followed the philosophy of vishish not veda veda so

uh this yadava prakash was had a gurukul he was he was teaching ramanuja he was also teaching ramanuja's cousin govinda and uh

and who will see also in the group from and later on ramanuja left him because he didn't like his teachings and he came and he wanted to be initiated by umunichari but um passed

away before he could give initiation to ramanuja so ma poona is the disciple of humanitaria

who gave initiation to ramanuja down the bottom here we have ramanuja ramanujacharya

also known as swami inverman right and you can see him here with his two main disciples or kuresha in sanskrit in tamil kur dawan

and moodly undone or uh i believe yeah anyway so uh then after ramanuja after ramanuja of course there were many

many many many different paramparas so at this point not everybody is going to have the same prompt for us but this is the main parampara

of tinglai sampradaya the next person to be the head of this community in srirangam is passed on is ramanuja's cousin govinda

who was also the in the gurukul of yadav prakash but also came out of that group his name is govinda here's sri govinda in in sanskrit in tamil his name is

embar embar embar if we go further up to there his disciple was sri parasarabhatta

who is just called in tamil bhatta sribatta had this disciple on the on ramanuja's right hand side here the man we always see with the beard

that is kurdawar or kuresha quresha had two sons and parasurabata prasara bhatta

and that's because ramanuja had uh uh yamunacharya had wanted somebody to name to to glorify harasser mooney

who wrote who compiled the visha purana and veda vyasa who had compiled the other puranas right so he wanted that verb yasa and

his father parasaurishi to be honored so in the honor of yasa and prasa rishi right this uh kurudawar

the great disciple of ramanuja named his two sons after them so this is the one son parasurabata like that he was a disciple he was the

next following following on from sri gavinda or mbar so when somebody says butter it means parasite very very asabata there's many other butters but if somebody just says to you

butter it means prasa but just like if somebody says alwa it just means unless they specify you know just like even if they say

number probably means very numbing okay so you have to get used to that sometimes they don't say the full name after parasurabata we have a person

called sri vedanti jeer he's called jire because he was a he was a an arduino he was studier of vedanta

and angier means sannyasi so he was a sannyasi who used to study vedanta right and he became known as he was so he was known as srivedantijir

right uh and you can see you can see by the color of their cloth uh parasurabata was a grahasta and this vedanti jire was his disciple

but he was a sannyasi so vedanti jire has a has a tamil name and that is uh nam

jia nanjir remember remember that word nam means our non-paramo or na means our saint or our our god

right so here we have the word nam jir nam ji means our sannyasi our sannyasi so when parasuraba used to see his disciple

he used to say nanjir our sanyasi come here so he got the tamil name namjir

so his name is or nanjir in tamil the next person is kaliari dasa also known as nam billai

or nam pillai the word pillai means sun and we're going to come to pila logacharya so this is important pilai means son so

obviously not he's a disciple of nanjir not ji or being a sanyasi doesn't have any sons okay although in the ramadan sampradaya it is possible

for it is more likely than not that a person takes degree hostile life and then becomes a sannyasi whereas in the madbusampudai there are many people who just immediately from brahmacari they take sannyas which is

called balsa they're nicely confirmatories so so we do have the system where somebody might be a sannyasi but he might have

had a son when he was a grihasta so but in this case this person was called pillai because he was like a son

to vid his main disciple was called nam pillai our son he considered him such a great disciple he and called him our son nam pillai

so after nam pillai we have another person krishnadas or sri krishna right he is called in tamil varukka now something that you should know is

the esoteric teachings are being handed down by this parampara right so this is

now vatika like we have vadagalai the word vatika means north tiruviri the word vedi in sanskr in tamil means

street tiruvidi means a holy street a holy street means a street just outside of a temple so there's a temple and there's streets around the temple

in which the deity goes in procession that makes the street holy or which they call the rafyatra in that street that area is usually reserved for houses

for brahmanas and is called agraharam in sanskrit so agraharam is a place where the brahman community live which is just around the temple and

usually others live further away the brahmanas have to live closer because they're doing all sorts of services like being pujaris or archipelas they're doing different things in the

temple so around the temple we have several streets in those streets we have houses and those that are streets are called tiruvidi

so the vatican temples are usually laid out north south east and west usually the deities are south facing east in srirangam the deities facing south because he was supposed to go to sri

lanka after the war with ravana when ravenna was killed and rama gave the deity to rubishana to take to sri lanka in the south he never got there and he's in srirangam

but he's facing sri lanka so it's a little bit of an unusual thing in sri rangam usually temple space east where the sun comes up but in any case temples are always laid

out north south east and west and around the temple there are these streets so you have a street a north street a south street an east street west street around the

temple this person's name is vatika tiruvidi hilai so he's a pillai he's the son

he's somebody's he's a son who is from the north street so he's north street son is the name of his is his name translated into english

so we don't know whether it was the north street of sri rangam or whether it was a north street of some other temple but anyhow he was probably born or lived in a house in the

north street right his name was krishnadas then this the his son his actual son he was not he was not a this uh

krishnas was not it was a disciple of his of his guru this this person here lokacharya now we come to

lokacharya srilokachari in sanskrit or hilai lokacharya this is our author of srivachin abushina again loka means the planet or the area and

acharya means guru guru of the world like we say krishna man guru krishna is the guru of the whole planet so pilai look acharya in tamil

otherwise srilok acharya in sanskrit here he is okay the next person after him is oh i'm sorry uh yeah the next person

after him is called srila swami and his his uh his his uh his tamil name is tiruvai moli

pillai hilai means against sun tsuru moly is the name of namawa's uh work of one thousand tamil verses which

is part of the four thousand tamil verses of the nala yira divya prabanda after that we have sri bhattavara muni swami sri bharavari some of the magrihastas

and some of them are the pillar of brahmachary so he's also in white and then we have here a sannyasi called

his his uh his tamil name is [Music] you want to be more polite you had the hull at the end

right or otherwise known as varavaramuni right and we always know him if we see a sannyasi and we see a sannyasi with an anandasha over his head

then we know that that is um right so because ram both ramanuja and manavala mahamuni are considered to be avatars of sheisha and antiseisha who is that

also a niche uri an eternal associate of the lord in vaikuntham after manavala mamuni or varavaramuni we have lord ranganatha again now that's

very strange how can the lord can't be the beginning of the of the guru brahma and also the end of the group from how can he be a disciple of manavala ma

muni the fact is that the that the esoteric teachings of the lord about the esoteric mantras which you received at pancha

samskara or summer shrine by sri vaishnavas which are normally three they are called the rahasya tria the three secrets

right which are normally given two of them are more secret than the other the other is quite open because it's the 18 the 66th verse of the 18th chapter of bhagavad-gita

so it's called chala masala but the first two are omnimonarianaya and the dwaya mantra which i'll explain in a minute right the and everybody who's taking who is

learning these these secret uh teachings about uh these secret teachings has already been initiated into these mantras and therefore knows these mantras but because maybe some people who are

watching this don't know i have to explain it so those mantras are handed down in this guru parampara all the way around and back up to

manavala mahmudi right and there are some secret explanations and secret esoteric teachings which are explained in certain books

called rahasya grunters the word grantha means book and rahasyam in secret so the esoteric meanings until they came until they came to

let's see until they came to sri pila lokacharia [Music] they were not actually until they came down to

hmm until they came down to here to nam billy until they came to after vedanti jire until they came down to la nam pillai

they were not written down naam pillai was the first person to write them down okay otherwise these esoteric secret

doctrines were only taught from guru to disciple and sometimes they were only taught by the guru to the best disciple they weren't taught to

every disciple sometimes the secret teachings were only taught to one disciple so that he could transmit them to to preserve them and transmit them so the best disciple would be taught the

most secret teachings then what happened was at the time of nam philai they decided that these things needed to be written down otherwise there was a possibility

that they could be lost at the time of uh loca um pilelo kacharia people started writing down

elaborately the the meanings the secret uh esoteric meanings of the three mantras right but still the teachings were not

taught to anybody who was not a direct disciple a direct disciple even though they were written down they're only taught to a direct disciple

by a direct guru later on so none of these things were published or or or they were all manuscript form when it came down to

manavalamar munigal at the end here then it was decided by he he he had a dream and in his dream the lord said to him yes you can propagate this

so he began to propagate the esoteric teachings and he actually had open classes still the people who came to the classes were all initiated shri vaishnavas

right and he would explain the esoteric meanings and they would print the the books which were only studied by initiated sriracha notes at one of those lectures which occurred

in the sri rangam temple manavala mar muni was lecturing and a small boy came forward

and recited a prayer in praise of manavalamar muni's explanation of the three esoteric mantras this boy

was an incarnation of lord ranganatha so this was showing that lord ranganatha himself accepted the teachings passed down from the him from himself through the

guru from to monavalamar muni and accepted that they could be taught more openly still to people who were initiated only

right but but accepted uh manavala mamuni as his guru so that is why lord ranganath is here he's at the beginning and he's at the

end of the guru parampara so there are many other guru from praise everybody has their own group from which just goes down this but this is the main group from tinglais sampradaya which shows how the

esoteric teachings have gone around so that is how the teachings have come down to us and so what we're interested in today is we're going to look at the life

and works of sri lanka chariot this person here the book that has been that we've been asked to discuss and it's going to be a discussion

i'm not teaching this book i'm not qualified to teach this book but we can discuss the book we can go over the book like that and we can discuss amongst

ourselves perhaps we can find some great acharya to teach the book to us but we can discuss what's in the book we can discuss the topics we can read the book

of pilay look acharya and uh and so i just wanted to show you where he is in the guru prompt almost towards the end here and

we should also note that his books mumukshapati which is his most famous book let's say and famous as a beginner's book for him and uh and srivachanabushna which is his magnum

opus right also have commentaries by manavala ma muni and when people study them they also they also read the commentary of manavala ma muni

the last acharya here before lord ranganatha so for tengalai sampradaya especially for the southern school of the sri vaishnava or the

protestant school of sri vaishnavism the works of pillai lokacharya and manavalaba muni are the quintessence of the esoteric secret teachings on the

rahasya tria the three secrets thought an initiation now what are those three secrets just very quickly that is described in this picture in the

middle of the picture so in the middle of the picture first of all we have two personalities up here this is lord narina

and this is nara both of them are incarnations of lord narayana nara narayana rishis and they are situated in bhudrik ashram

in the north of india in the himalayas many people might have gone there it's a holy place and there's a temple there of badri vishal and several other deities but the main d that they have the

the deities of nara and narayana rishis this is the place where lord narayana decided to teach the first secret mantra lord narayana

was in vaikuntha and he decided i have to teach people the first secret mantra i have to give them an easy way a quick way

or i have to give them away to attain moksha to attain my eternal service in vaikuntha how do i do that i have to propagate this in order to propagate it

i myself will come as the guru and i myself will come as the perfect disciple and i will instruct myself because i can't find a perfect disciple and i

can't find a perfect guru so i'm going to come as the guru and i'm going to come as the disciple and i'm going to give the mantra so he came as naru narayan rishis

and instructed the mantra the astax mantra or what's called the tirumantra remember tyra means shri the the shri means the holy the holiest of holy mantras

the mantra raja the king of mantras the ashtaksha the eight syllable mantra right so lord narayana came and instructed this mantra to

nara at madrid so that's the first of the that's the first of the secrets the meaning of omnimuraianaya is explained in all the books and teachings all the

esoteric books and teachings of the guru rampara specifically hilai lokicaria with the commentary of manavala mar muni

that's what we're talking about okay so the next one the next secret which is initiated with the srivaj numbers are initiated into

is called the dwaya mantra in sanskrit the word dwyer means two so it's two mantras in one two mantras for the price of one you have two mantras so

two phrases in sanskrit which go together they are they they were imparted you see here in the middle lakshmi and narayana in vaikuntha sriman

narayana with sri devi mahalakshmi he imparted this mantra to her she is the founder of charia first acharya right after lord ranganatha

of the sri sampradaya so in vaikuntha he told her this mantra this mantra is that's the first part of it the second

part of it is sri matai narayanaya namaha so it's a longer mantra than eight syllables but it has two

two two it means three months along with shri right lakshmi narayana srimad narayana charanol the two feet

sharanam i offer my i i take shelter sharanam means i surrender i surrender and take shelter of the two feet of lakshmi narayana

right that's what the first one means second i offer my obeisances unto that those personalities that i just surrendered to

srimati narayanaya narayana wishfree namaha not for me for them i offer my obeisances to them

the the first mantra on the monarina is a transcendental syllable oh my lord i offer my obeisances namaha to narayana

tuna so um these are the first two mantras the third mantra we mentioned before is called krishna sloka the word sharama

means coming at the end the most important the primary the primary instruction of lord krishna in bhagavad-gita verse chapter 18 verse 66

just abandon all varieties of religion surrender unto me alone surrender unto me only mommy comes

to us i will i will uh make sure that you're not harmed by any sin sins right right

if you just surrender unto me right sorry you will go to moksha in the future mock show xiaomi it's a future tense master heart

don't worry don't fear so don't worry about anything just surrender unto me you've abandoned all varieties of self effort

all paths of self effort like karma ghana and bhakti yogas just abandon all varieties of of religion of all dharmas and just surrender unto me i'll protect you from

the reactions of all sinful activities don't fear be certain be sure about it so this is the final instruction of lord krishna in out of the 700 verses this is the most

important one so this was instructed as you can see down here by lord krishna to arjuna on the battle of on the battlefield of kurukshetra so here it says kurukshetra

meaning krishna in tamil right and it says arjuna adjunoku unto arjuna sharama chanama slokam

and it says that he taught him chara masala the last challenge okay so these are the this is the the shri vaishnava guru rampara tomorrow we'll talk specifically about

the life of pila lokacharya and we'll talk not only about his life because there are two things which are important about bilo lopez one is his life in any guru any acharya

there are they say a bird flies on two wings and the two wings of an acharya are his understanding

and his uh and his means his knowledge like his preaching his teachings and his personal life his behavior and everything like that

so yeah right whereas we have the situation with krishna and rama krishna gave very good teachings in bhagavad-gita but his personal life was not to be emulated

whereas lord rama was very good in his personal life but never gave us a book you know to to read although the reminder is there by but

it's by valmiki it's not by lord lord rama himself so in this way the acharyas of the group rampara they're supposed to be like birds that have these two wings of ghanam and understand them they're

supposed to the perfect acharya of course has to have perfect knowledge and perfect uh conduct perfect life sure so of course we we can see

the so it's important to look at the lives of the acharyas it's also important to look at the teachings of the acharyas and sometimes with the alwas and acharyas the things in their lives also teach us

many many things which they don't specifically write down in their in their uh in their books right so we can learn

from their lives we can also learn from their books you
